Sri Rama Sthothram by Ahalya – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Ahalya spoke “Oh! Jagannivasa I am grateful to you for caressing me with the dust of your lotus feet that are yearned to venerate by Lord Bhrama and Lord Shankara, Oh! Lord Rama, it is mesmerizing to watch your miraculous deeds, you have enticed the whole world with your magnificent human form, explored through the lands with immense pleasure, I shall make an humble effort to describe your sacred deeds with all those pieities earned in previous birth, I could envision your glorious form as human whose dust of lotus feet causes the origin of Bhageerathi from the abode of Lord Bhrama.  I shall meditate upon Lord Hari who is personified as Rama, he is charismatic and he has attractive limbs, he is decked in bow and arrow, he has wide lotus flower like eyes.  I am not aware of any other deities.  I shall meditate upon Lord Ramachandhra, dust of his lotus feet is eulogized by sacred Vedas and Bhagavan Purari/Lord Shiva, Lord Bhrama seated on the lotus flower was initiated from the belly of supreme Lord Rama.  I shall surrender at the lotus feet of Lord Rama, whose glorious myth was sung by Maharishi Narada that was narrated by Lord Bhrama with tears of joy, it was eulogized by Vageeshwari/Saraswathi as well.  Oh! Esha, Oh! Rama, who is Paramathma, he is Purusha and  Purana/sacred scriptures as well, he is self manifested supreme brilliance/Swayamjyothir, he is primordial, he is eternal, he removes the darkness of illusion of his devotees and shower his eternal grace on them.  He is free from worldly attachments, resides as soul in the living beings, he is the cause for the Universe, preservation and destruction of the same, due to the existence of delusion gives out the appearance of the trinities Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva as different entities.  I shall prostrate before the lotus feet of Rama, who is delightfully carrying Goddess Sri on her chest, he conquered the three worlds, and he is meditated by the supreme ascetics, sages and Rishis, you are primordial, resides as soul in living beings, you are the cause of the Universe and sole commander of the Universe, you are the Lord of the Universe and its living beings, you are beyond description or thought.  Oh! Rama who is the personification of the syllable ‘Om’, you are beyond description, you represent the terminology and you are all pervading.  Oh! Rama, you are the reason/Karyam, you are the cause/Karanam, you are the doer/Kartha, and fruit of it, Oh! Rama you are sole aspect in various incarnations with the presence of illusion.  Oh! Parameshwara/supreme Lord, it is impossible for the scholars to realize you as absolute Bhramam due to the existence of illusion, therefore considered you as ordinary human, Oh! Rama, you represent sky and you are all pervading, you are eternal, unblemished and stable.  Oh! Rama, I am an ignorant, not aware of your preeminence, Oh! Vibho I shall meditate upon you and prostrate before you.  Oh! Deva, I shall earnestly pray that wherever I belong to this world I should have intense devotion at your lotus feet, I shall prostrate before Purushadhyaksha/supreme among Purusha, I shall prostrate before Bhakthavalsala/most desirable to passionate devotees, I shall prostrate before Hrishikesha who has perfect control over senses, I shall prostrate before Lord Narayana.  I shall meditate upon Lord Rama along with his brother Lakshman, who is the destroyer of sorrows and grief of Samsara, he has the brilliance of billions of Adityas, he is wielded in powerful bow and arrow, he has the complexion of dark clouds, he is attired in majestic yellow garment, he is decked in gem studded ear ornaments, he has wide and beautiful eyes that has the resemblance to lotus flower.”  Thus Ahalya eulogized Lord Rama who is Purusha and Raghava, she prostrated before him, eventually followed her husband.

Whoever reads or listens to the above verses eulogized by Ahalya with utmost devotion and faith, would be freed from all the sins and attain absolute Bhramam, childless couples would achieve virtuous child by meditating upon Lord Rama and reciting the above glorious verses, all the desires would be fulfilled with the grace of Lord Rama.  Whoever recites these glorious verses and meditate upon Lord Rama on daily basis, would be relieved from the highest of the sins like Bhramahathya, illicit relationship with the wife of preceptor, illegal seizure of others property, consumption of intoxicated drinks, hathya of Mother or Brother, people who are immersed in sensual pleasures, etc…
