Sri Balabhadhra Sahasranama Sthothram – Garga Samhitha – Lyrics and meanings 1 - 10

Sri Balabhadhra who was born to Vasudeva and Rohini as eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, thousands of sacred names of Balabhadhra was narrated by Sage Garga to the young maidens of cowherds on the river banks of Yamuna, later it was described by Sage Pradhvipaka to Duryodhana who was one of the devoted disciples of Sri Balabhadhra/Balarama.


Duryodhana speaks “ Oh!  Pradhvipaka Mahamune, kindly narrates the glorious thousands of sacred names of Sri Balabhadhra which is highly confidential even to deities.”


Sri Padhvipaka speaks “ Oh! Maharaja, sacred names of Sri Balabhadhra are highly propitious and pure, it was most appropriate to enquire about the most auspicious hymns which is not easily attainable to deities, that was composed by Sage Garga, hence kindly listen to these sacred hymns with utmost devotion and faith, its highly auspicious hymn which was once narrated by Sage Garga to the young maidens of cow herds on the river banks of Yamuna.”

Sri Balabadhra Sahasranama Sthothra is highly propitious hymns was composed by Rishi Gargacharya, it has Anushtup as Chandhas, Sankarshana as presiding deity, Balabhadhra is Beejam, Devi Revathi as Shakthi, Anantha as Keelakam, it is recited to please Lord Balabhadhra.

I shall meditate upon Lord Balabhadhra who has great effulgence, he is pure, he is decked in magnificent crown, Kingini, bangles, he is adorned in marvelous earrings that keeps dangling on his attractive cheeks and it multiplies the beauty of his face resembles to lotus flower, he has stunningly beautiful appearance of dark clouds, he is wielded in Hala and Musala, he is Kamapala/Baladheva.


 I shall meditate upon Lord  Balabadhra, he is Ramabadhra and Rama, he is Sankarshana and Achyutha as well, he is the dearest darling of Devi Revathi, he is divine personified as Kamapala, he is wielded in Hala as weapon, he has the appearance of dark sky, he has fair complexion too, he is Baladeva who is elder to Achyutha, he is  slayer of Pralambha, he is immensely valorous, he is eminent son of Devi Rohini, he is Hari who is wielded in Hali and Musali, he is born in the illustrious clan of Yadhu, he is powerful, he is wielded in powerful bow and arrows, he carries lotus flower on his hand, he is Lagudi/armed in club, he is fond of playing melodious music on flute, he infiltrate the sacred river Kalindhi, he is valiant, he is powerful, he is Vasudeva, Anantha, he have thousands of faces, he is supreme Lord/independent, he represents Vasu, he is the consort of Vasumathi, he is Vasudeva who symbolizes wealth, he is illustrious among Yadhu, he is Yadhavendhra, he is Madhava, he is dearest darling of Vani, he is the Lord of Dwaraka and Mathura, he is benevolent, generous, proud, and gracious, he is flawless, he is primordial/Puranapurusha, he is Paresha/supreme Lord, he is Parameshvara.
