Sri Parvathi Ashtothara Shathanama Sthothram – Lyrics and meanings

I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Parvathi who is the Goddess of the Universe, she is primordial, she lures the heart of Lord Maheshwara, she has supreme brilliance, she is great illusionist, she is the slayer of demon Mahisha, she is Goddess Uma who gave birth to Lord Kumara, she is the daughter of Mount Himavan, she is the commander of Universe/Bhavani, she is personified for the welfare of the Universe and its living beings/Bhavana,  she is the destroyer of worldly bondage of her ardent devotees,  she is the consort of Lord Shiva/Shivaa, she secured half of the body of Lord Shiva, she has beautiful limbs and remains invisible,  she is most beloved to Lord Shankara and provides all the auspiciousness, she is serene,  she dwells in the heart of virtuous people, she symbolizes triumph, she remains unconquerable and provides success to her fervent devotees, she is supreme Goddess of the Universe, she is Arya who is the essence of Veda, she is not easily attainable and she is beyond description or perception,  she is Thripura who is the consort of Lord Thripurari who won over the cities of Thripura, she is the consort of Lord Parameshwara who is the Lord of the Universe, she is the daughter of Sage Kathyayana/Kathyayani, she is the daughter of Mount Himavan/Haimavathi, she is Shambhavi and slayer of demon Shumbha, she is Shakambari who symbolizes all the art forms,  she has dreadful forms as Kali, Bhairavi etc…she removes the fear in her passionate devotees, she is Narayani/female force of Lord Narayana, she dwells as Prana in all the living beings, she is sharvani/consort of Lord Shiva, she is the provider of all kinds of auspiciousness to her devotees, she has the brilliance of Lord Surya, she is compassionate, she is the safe haven to the people who are surrendered at her lotus feet, she has attractive limbs resembles to  deer, her eyes has the resemblance to the eyes of deer, she is beloved to Lord Hara, she is most desirable to the virtuous people, she is Bhagavathi, her eyes has the resemblance to lotus flower petals, she is the sister of Lord Vishnu who has lotus like eyes, she is eulogized by deities and Rishis, she represents the sacred hymns of  Hreemkara , she is Mathangi and provider of auspiciousness, she has secured half of the body of Lord Hara, she represents amorous sports, she is the safe haven for her devotees, she is timid, she is personified as child, she is victorious, she is mounted on celestial vehicle lion, she is the consort of Lord Kameshwara/ Kameshwari, she represents auspiciousness, she is gorgeous, she is worshiped by all the deities, she is wielded on Chakra, she takes immense pleasure in nectar, she is Parvathi who has the eyes resembles to lotus flower petals, she carries bow and flower arrows in her hands, she dwells in Srichakra, she is Chamunda who personified to annihilate the demons Chanda and Munda, she has dreadful form, she is eulogized by Veda and Vedantha, she is Girija who dwells in the highest Mountain peaks, she is Durga who removes the miseries and sorrows of her devotees, she is the cause for creation, preservation and destruction of the Universe, she has attractive limbs, she is Lalitha and Gauri as well, she dwells in the sacred house of Chinthamani, she is the supreme Goddess of the Universe, she is the Empress of the Universe, she is the daughter of Menakadevi, she is the consort of Lord Rudra and Lord Shankara, she is the provider of auspiciousness, she is the sole witness of the deluge at the end of Yuga, she symbolizes Srividhya, she is the provider of wealth, she represents glorious sixteen syllables, she is worshiped by deities, she is the provider of excellence in speech, she dwells as Bindu, she  destroys the  sorrows and perils of her devotees, she carries lotus flower in her hands, she is the commander of the deities, she crushed the pride of  demon Mahisha with her lotus feet, she has the brilliance of billions of Adithya in the hours of early dawn, her face has the luster of moon, she is smeared in highly fragrant vermilion, she has crimson colored lips and beautiful nose decked in marvelous nose pin, her attractive cheeks reveals the mirror image of her magnificent earrings that spreads intense luster to all directions.


Whoever reads or listens to the above glorious verses praising the splendor of Goddess Sri Parvathi is highly propitious and confidential, during the hours of dawn, noon and dusk, and meditates upon Lord Shiva and Parvathi with utmost faith and devotion would be blessed with all kinds wealth and auspiciousness, wisdom, knowledge, and Purushartha/Dharma,Artha,Kama, Moksha to the worshiper.
