Sri Gita Govinda Mahakavyam - Sri Jayadeva Ashtapadi – 6 - Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Oh! Sakhi, my mind is completely wrapped up at the thought of Krishna who has countless virtues and passion/splendor, he is roaming head over heels in love with the young maidens of Vraja and he is engrossed in experiencing a passionate sport with the young maidens in the remoteness, Oh! Krishna, I am feeling completely abandoned by you, once again my heart is craving for your nearness and besieged with the cupid arrows of Manmatha, what shall I do?

Oh! Sakhi, we had a secret meeting in the creeper home in the woods, during the hours of midnight of the spring season, he made us frightened by his sudden disappearance, and we were worriedly looking for him in various directions, in a short while, he appeared before us with his passionate smile.  Oh! Sakhi, Keshi/Krishna is generous, he was also equally besieged with the cupid arrows of Manmatha, his heart was also filled with extreme joy, and he was also experienced the same pain of separation.  Oh! Sakhi, he was so inexperienced and bashful during our first meeting, later it was dexterous and pleasing, gifted and favorable too, and he lured our hearts with his pleasing conversations and it paved the way to unite.  Oh! Sakhi, he instructed me to lie on the charming bed of creepers and he also lied down close to my bosom, he embraced and kissed me repeatedly, in this way he consumed the nectar from my lips at his heart’s content.  Oh! Sakhi, I have closed my eyes instantly, I was in a state of ecstasy at the touch of his loveliest cheeks, we both were soaked in the perspiration of amorous sport, and he too was besieged with the cupid arrows of Manmatha.  Oh! Sakhi, he is unconquerable, he is God of love, he is aware of all ideas and techniques, chirping of cuckoos and monotonous sounds of amorous sport filled in the atmosphere, my hairs were disheveled and flowers on the plait of hair were misplaced, I could experience the mark of nails all over my bosom.  Oh! Sakhi, my gem studded anklets made rattling noises during our passionate sport, we were in an ultimate state of trance being in the passionate journey filled with kisses.  Oh! Sakhi, I could witness the lotus flower petals like eyes of  Madhusoodhana were soaked in amorous sport, I hang on to him like creeper and he augmented the pleasure like God of love.

The above is the wonderful verse of Sri Jayadeva describes the endless amorous sport of Krishna which was narrated by Radhika to her closest companion while she was separated from him momentarily.

It is blissful to watch the attractive face of  Govinda whose flute is slipped out of his hand, his passionate glances through the outer corner of eyes, his neck portion is soaked in perspiration from the amorous sport, his enchanting smile is utterly shameless, he is in the middle of numerous young maidens in the woods of Vrindavan.  Oh! Sakhi, my heart is sinking in desperation, though the dazzling splendor of garden or the cool breeze from the pool,  does not reduce my anguish, buzzing noise of swarm of bees, the cluster of flower and flower buds multiply the attractiveness of the atmosphere, none of these are capable to reduce my anguish.  Oh! Keshava, young maidens of Vraja were smiling intentionally with their beautiful movements of eyebrows and shoulder, they loosened their beautiful plait of hair on their visible large high raised bosom, in order to grab your attention, and they are innocent and beautiful, completely absorbed in your thoughts and closely watched for your arrival, in this way they have won over the youthful charming Keshava.  May supreme Lord Keshava eradicate all our sufferings!
