|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||
Sri Shaunaka speaks “ These thousands of
sacred names of Vittal are the essence of Veda, whoever reads or listens to it
would get their desires
fulfilled instantly, Theertham/holy river, Kshethram/shrine and presiding deity are
capable to purify and bring abundance of meritorious reward, therefore I would
like listen to those glorious names of Vittala from your lotus like face, hence
kindly narrate to me about the splendor of Lord Vittala who is
Sathchithmukhaswaroopi/eternal bliss and always engrossed in the welfare of
passionate devotees.”
Sri Sutha speaks “ Oh! Bhraman, carefully
listen to the thousands of sacred names of supreme Lord Vittala, which is
highly meritorious and superior among all the hymns of Sahasranama. The Vittala Sahasranama is highly propitious
hymn composed by Sri Pundarika Rishi, praising the Lord Srivittala who is
supreme preceptor and Paramathma, it has
Anushtup as chandhas, Pundareeka Varaprasadha as Beejam, Rukmneesha and Ramapathi as Shakthi,
Pandurangesha as Keelakam, and it is
recited to please Sri Vittala. ”
|| Karanyasa: ||
“ I shall offer salutation to Lord Pundareeka Varaprada with thumb, I shall offer salutation to Vittala: Pandurangesha/who is the Lord of
Panduranga with the forefinger, I shall offer salutation to Chandrabhaga Sarovasa who dwells on the
sacred river bank of Chandrabhaga, with the middle finger, I shall offer
salutation to Vajri Shakthira Dhanda
Dhara:/wielded in Vajri, shakthi and Dhanda/
with the ring finger, I shall offer salutation to Kalvamsharavakrantha/who
eradicates birth in low clan/ with the
little finger, I shall offer salutation to Yenonthakrinnamadhyeya:/who protects
from sins and evil by recitation of
sacred names/ with the palm and back of the palm as well.”
|| Hridhayadhi Nyasa: ||
“I shall prostrate before superme Lord
Pundareeka Varapradha and assume his
eternal presence in my heart, I shall
prostrate before supreme Lord Vittala:
Pandurangesha and assume his eternal
presence on my head, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Chandrabhaga Sarovasa and assume his eternal
presence on my tuft, I shall prostrate before
Vajri Shakthira Dhanda Dhara: and assume him as protective armor, I shall prostrate before Kalvamsharavakrantha and assume his eternal
presence in three eyes, I shall prostrate before Yenonthakrinnamadhyeya: and
assume his eternal presence as weapon, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord
Vittala and assume his eternal presence in all directions.”
Dhyanam –
“I shall prostrate before Lord
Purushoththama who marvelously standing and keeping his lotus feet on the brick
in an even way, placing both the hands on hip, decked in garland of Kadhamba
flowers, he is holding Shakha/conch and Padma/lotus flower on both the hands,
he has beautiful smile on his face, his head is embellished in turban, he is attired
in directions as garment, he is decorated in various ornaments all over his
body, he is worshiped by Lord Bhrama and deities, he symbolizes supreme wisdom
and knowledge, I shall meditate upon the supreme Lord who is personified as
Vittala.”
