Chapter – 12 – Chanakya Neethi – 1 – 10
Rishi Chanakya speaks “ Dhanyo
Grihasthashram’ The Grihasthashrama becomes extremely blissful in the following
circumstances 1) The house is filled with the air of happiness and joy 2)
intelligent children 3) adequate wealth 4) chaste and devoted wife 5) obedient
servants 6) guests are welcomed with great honor 7) Shivapooja on a regular
basis 8) sumptuous meals served on regular intervals 9) association of Sajjanas
and their regular visits makes the life of a Grihastha contented and blissful.
The charities and contribution to the twice-born brings an abundance of auspiciousness,
and the piousness earned from the simple act would bring two-fold of piousness,
the charities offered by the Grihastha would definitely get back in some other
forms, hence the Grihastha should practice an abundance of charities to Vedic
Bhramin, spiritual and religious rites. A successful leader should have the
following qualities 1) great respect for relatives and family 2) kindness 3) dislike
to Dhurjjana/wicked and deceitful 4) great admiration towards Sajjanas,
saintly, ascetic, Santh and Mahathma 5) fearlessness towards enemies 6)
endurance, benevolence to elderly people 7) manliness to the woman and 8) thorough understanding in various fields
of knowledge. The following types of individuals are considered as a burden on
the mother Earth is addressed as ‘walking corpse’, and jackal 1) a person who
have not performed charities in life 2) ears that have not listened to the
glorious legends from the Shastra and Purana 3) eyes that have not seen the
Sajjana, Mahathma, Santh and Sadhu 4) legs that have not conducted journey to
Punya Theertha 5) stomach filled on the wealth earned in immoral ways 5) head
that stands high of pride. The sounds of percussion/Mridanga ‘Dhik Tham’ is compared
1) to the person who has no devotion at the lotus feet of Yasodhanandhan Lord
Krishna, 2)person who has no interest
in listening to the glorious myths sing in praise of that supreme Lord, 3) people
who have no interest in listening to the wonderful childhood pastimes of supreme
Lord Krishna with tears on their eyes is nothing but the sounds of ‘Mridhanga’
‘Dhik Tham’. It is impossible to rewrite the destiny 1) bamboos will not bloom
during the Vasantharithu, so it cannot blame the change of season 2) owl cannot see things in the sunlight, for
that the sun cannot be blamed 3) Chakora birds quench its thirst from raindrops, cannot blame the clouds if it does not get the raindrops. The
association with the Sajjana will definitely transform the Dhurjjana, but it
won’t happen in the reverse order. Sajjana will not leave their virtues, even
if they are compelled to be with the Dhurjjana like the fragrant flowers fallen
on the earth does not assume the smell of the sand; instead, the sand absorbs
the fragrance of the flower. The mere witnessing the Mahathma, Santh, Sadhus
would purify the souls; they are like the movable sacred Theertha. The sacred
rivers purify the Jeeva whoever takes a dip in it, but the Santh Mahathma
purifies the Jeeva immediately with their association. Oh! Vipra, who is
superior in this world? In my words, the trees of palm trees grown high are superior.
Who performs charities with a great speed? In my opinion, the washerman cleans
clothes that were given in the morning and return by night. Who is extremely
intelligent? In my opinion, the person skilled in stealing the wealth and wife
of others is considered intelligent. Oh! Vipra, understand the truth; the
life on the Earth is full of miseries and grief, like the worms thriving on the
poison. The house where the twice-born/Vipra/Bhramin receives with great respect and wash their
feet, the house where the sounds of Vedic hymns reverberates, the house where
the Homa and Yaga take place on a frequent
basis are considered as highly auspicious.
The houses where any of the above propitious events were not taken place
are considered as funeral grounds.”
