Chapter – 13– Chanakya Neethi – 1 – 10
Rishi Chanakya speaks “The life on the
Earth has fleeting nature and unpredictable; hence the Jeeva should find all
the opportunities to perform righteous deeds.
The bare truth is that
the wealth, fame, richness, money earned will not follow till the end of life
or end of the Kalpa. Therefore the Jeeva should not engage in immoral deeds
which cannot provide happiness or peace in the Ihaloka/while living on the Earth
and Paraloka/life after Earth. The
intellectuals live on the present, they do not waste time brooding over the
past mistakes, make all the possible ways to correct them and becomes mindful
not to repeat the same, or they do not get anxious about the future. The secret
of happiness and success in life 1) the deities, parents, Sajjanas, Santh and
Mahatmas get pleased with the virtuousness of a person 2) the relatives get
pleased with the respect and sumptuous meals served 3) the intellectuals get
pleased with the good-natured talks. The
natures of Mahatmas are beyond description 1) they consider the wealth,
richness, fame, honor, possessions equivalent to Thrina/grass 2) They do not
get over-excited about the sudden arrival of wealth or do not get anxious about the loss
of wealth 3) They do consider the grace and disgrace, happiness and sorrow,
with utmost serenity. The attachment to people, wealth, money, richness,
possession, fame, family, children, and wife, causes grief and fear in its absence,
therefore do not get over-attached to any of the material matters which has to
meet destruction. The grief and sorrow
caused by the destruction of material things and the pain of separation from beloved people
cannot get rid without the knowledge of Paramarththa Thaththva, changes are
inevitable, all the material matters/Prakrithi has to undergo constant
transformation and ruin, the Athman/soul are eternal has neither birth nor death.
Therefore abandon the interest in worldly matters and bondage, and contemplate
upon the supreme Lord who resides as a soul in the Jeeva. The person who waits for the destiny to bring
luck will not achieve success, meets destruction in no time, the person who foresees
the dangers and prepares to fight against win the challenges, achieves victory
over the evils, with the sharp knowledge and fearlessness, and ultimately
enjoys the fruit of life. The eternal truth is “Yadha Raja Thadha Praja”, if
the King is Dharmishta/has the sense of performing righteous deeds, the
Praja/people of the Kingdom will follow the same. If the King has a moderate sense
of belief in Dharmic rites, people also follow the same, if the king has no
belief in Dharmic rites, the people of the country will become wicked and deceitful.
Therefore the King should strictly follow the righteousness; otherwise the
destruction of the Kingdom and its people is definite. The people who do not
follow the Dharmic rites while living on the Earth is considered as burden ‘dead
alive’/corpse. The righteousness performed by a person while living continues
to stay on the Earth even after his/her death. The Jeeva who do not strive to
achieve any of these Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha while living on the Earth,
considered their lives as meaningless, like the decorative added on the neck of
a goat. The people who are swollen with envy are incapable, cannot achieve
success or fame, burn themselves in the fire of greed in other’s achievements
and success. These wicked natured people will not shine in their lives; look
out every opportunity to defame others.”
