of the all-pervasive supreme Lord to get rid of grief
Sri Surdas
Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, meditate, and contemplate upon the supreme Lord Sri
Hari, who is the savior of the distressed souls, sing in praise of his glorious
legends, and worship at his lotus feet which is the ultimate asylum even for
the grave sinners to get rid of suffering and repeated births. Oh! Mind, the
all-pervasive supreme Lord Sri Hari removes the anxiousness and fear of his
devotees, hence take shelter at his lotus feet, and contemplate upon him. The
Bhramin Ajamila who abandoned his elderly parents, family, and the Bhramanic
way of life for a prostitute in the forest, later years of age at the death bed
he cried out for his youngest son ‘Narayana’, thus he got liberated from the dreadful
emissaries of Lord Yama/Lord of Death. The King of birds, eagle/Jatayu got
brutally wounded while fighting to get freed Devi Sita from the forceful
custody of the ten-headed demon Ravana, and finally left his mortal coil on the
lap of Lord Rama, thus it got liberated from suffering. The Ganika/prostitute, in
her later years of age lived in complete isolation, she brought a parrot from
the devotee of Lord Sri Hari, mere listening to the Sri Ramanama from the
parrot she attained liberation from worldly existence. Arjuna was the most
fortunate one to attain Lord Sri Krishna as his dearest companion, the Mookachandala
served his parents like the supreme Lord Sri Hari, and eventually got rid of
grief of worldly existence. The Brahmin couple who lived in the Dwaraka, lost
all their children immediately after birth attained the grace of Lord Krishna, and
regained all their children. The elephant Gajaraj who was seized on the leg by the crocodile
in the pond was abandoned by his family and friends, fought several years all
alone, and finally cried out for Lord Sri Hari, and got relieved from the curse.
The child devotee Prahaladha was tortured by his father demon Hiranyakashipu,
finally, the supreme Lord Sri Hari incarnated as half-lion and half-man, and
ripped off the chest of Hiranyakashipu. Oh! Prabho you have promised to protect your
devotees from all the troubles, thus whoever sang in praise of your glories was
protected and liberated from the repeated cycles of birth.”
