Chapter – 286- Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The significance of the
practice of devotion - The conversation between Devi Devahoothi and Sage Kapila
Devi Devahoothi speaks “Oh! Vathsa/son, Oh! Prabho, my
desire to be with my husband Sage Kardhamaprajapathi is not letting me live in
peace, kindly advise me on how to get rid of the grief of separation from him.”
Sage Kapila/incarnation of Lord Sri Hari replied “Oh!
Mother, I shall describe the practice of devotion and its techniques elaborately,
if you practice the four kinds of devotion, you would gradually get rid of the
grief and sufferings of worldly existence. Oh! Mother, if you want to travel to
a distant place, you have to prepare yourself, you have to choose the mode of
transport and the requirements for the travel, etc. in this way, the devotees attain
ME with the practice of devotion. If someone is already on a journey and became
exhausted half of the way, the other person discourages saying that ‘you are
not going to make it to that far-off place’ then the person already
disappointed would die of fear. Instead, he was motivated and encouraged to go
on with all the strength to reach the destination, definitely, he will make it.
Oh! Mother, the spiritual seeker/Sadhaka with immense courage would reach ME
with the perpetual practice of devotion. Oh! Mother, the Thamoguni Upasak/devotee
with Thamasik nature, desires the terrible death of his enemy. The Rajoguni
Upasak/devotee with the Rajasik nature, yearn for wealth, possession, richness,
fame, children, wife, companion, and relatives. The Sathvikbhakth relentlessly
serve the Santh, Mahathma, and Sathpurusha, and consider them as emissaries of God,
even if they desire Mukthi/liberation, I shall provide without any hesitation. Oh! Mother, the Nirguna Nishkama Bhakth won’t
yearn for Mukthi, they immerse in supreme bliss perceiving the Sacchidhanandha
Swaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam in their hearts, and Oneness-in-all, persistently
engage in the meditation and contemplation upon me. These are
Paramamuktha/liberated souls, they are free from worldly matters, desires, and
the sufferings of dualities, these liberated souls will not return to the ocean
of Samsara. Oh! Mother, the Sadhaka whoever chosen any one of these four kinds
of the practice of devotion won’t meet destruction, all of them would achieve
the supreme abode with the gradual practice of devotion, but the liberated
souls are beloved of mine, they will not return to worldly existence and the
cycles of birth and death.”
