Chapter – 7 – Chanakya Neethi 1 – 10
Rishi Chanakya speaks “An intelligent
/wise, learned do not reveal the following things in open or discuss with
others 1) Loss of wealth/Arththanasham 2) personal grief/Manasthapam 3)
troubles in the family 4) the deception underwent/Vanchana and 5) humility/Apamanam.
The person who has abandoned shame in the diet and affairs, and pursue
learning Vidhya/knowledge, earning Dhanam/wealth, and Dhanyam /grains will
achieve goodness. The learned, Rishis, Sages, ascetic with the regular practice of meditation and contemplation, extreme austerities and Tapasya,
attain the union with the supreme Bhramam /Paramathma which is Sath Chith
Anandha/ eternal bliss, and live in utmost serenity. The ignorant Jeeva
constantly chases after material welfare, richness, accumulation of wealth, fame,
sensual pleasure, etc. undergoes constant grief and sorrow. An intelligent do
not get satisfied with the three things 1) earning knowledge from the
scriptures and Shastra 2) Tapasya/austerities and 3) Charity. The wise people
1) get satisfied in the association of wife 2) the meals available 3) and the
wealth earned by honest way of living. It is an unfair practice to intervene in
the middle of 1)Two Vipra/Bhramin 2) Bhramin and Agni 3) husband and wife 4)
Master and the servant and the last but
not the least 5) in between the plow and ox. It is an immoral act to touch
the following with the feet 1) Agni 2) Preceptor 3) Bhraman/twice-born 4) cow
5) Kumari/Young girl 6) an elderly person 7) and an infant. The fair practice
are 1) keep a good distance of Panchahastha/measured by hand for five times
from the Vehicle 2) keep a distance of Dhashahastha/ten times measured with the
hand from the horse/Vajinam 3) keep a distance of Hasthasahasrena/thousands of
Hastha, from the elephant 4) If needed, leave a region and keep away a fair
distance from the Dhurjjana/wicked people. 1) An elephant can be restrained
with the spear 2) horse can be brought under control with the noose 3) Animals
with horn can be put under control with strong wooden log 4) a wicked person can
be put under control with the sword. The common facts are 1) The
twice-born/Bhramin take great pleasure in the sumptuous meal 2) The peacock get
delighted watching the rain clouds and thunderstorm 3) Sajjanas get highly
pleased at the welfare of others and 4) The Dhurjjana gets delighted at the trouble of others. The promising acts are 1) The powerful enemy should be
tackled with the right way 2) Dhurjjana/wicked people should be restrained with
strong action 3) an enemy of equivalent strength should be tackled either with
the force or humbleness.”
