Chapter -40 -Sri Vinaya Patrika  - The significance of recitation of Ramanama -  “Bhrama Sathyam Jagath Mithya”

 

Sri Tulsidas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Tongue, practice and recite the sacred names of Lord Sri Ram, Oh! Mind, be a Papeeha/Chakora that yearns to achieve the Ramanamroopi rain clouds, be the Papeeha that does not look for the water of well, pond, rivers, ocean or stream, to quench their thirst. These Papeeha remain thirsty yearning for drinking the raindrops from the star Swathi. Oh! Mind, do not perform any spiritual or religious rites or austerities, yearning for fruitful results, always yearn to achieve the nectar-like the devotion and belief at the lotus feet of Sri Ramachandra, and be satisfied with perpetual devotion at the feet of Lord of Lords. While the Papeeha yearn for a drop of rain clouds, does not get scared of the deafening noise of thunder, or storm, or whirlwind.  They undergo severe trails do not get discouraged or do not back out from yearning for the rain drops, the truth is that their yearning for the clouds never ends. Oh! Mind, practice Ananyabhakthi at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra like those Papeeha, meanwhile, you may undergo severe trials of sufferings of worldly existence, keep yourself strong enough to face all those troubles, do not let your mind wander or perplexed, practice intense devotion and faith at the lotus feet of Sri Ramachandra, and Sriramanama. Oh! Mind, keep your mind and intellect wedged on the Ramanama, remain beloved of Ramanama. There were several fortunate souls practiced intense devotion and faith upon Lord Sri Ramachandra and took shelter in Ramanama, and continued to do so and will go on with the practice of Anananya Bhkthi at the lotus feet of Ramachandra, they are the most fortunate in the three worlds. Oh! Mind, practice the devotion and faith in the Ramanama which is not easier, it is extremely difficult to fall in love with the Ramanama, there are several obstacles like interest in worldly matters, possession, richness, fame, money, attachment to wife, children, relatives, and companions, the impurities of mind such as Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, and Mathshcharya would steal away the devotion and faith. I am Tulsidas, completely worn out of sufferings of worldly existence, I have no shelter other than the lotus feet of Lord Sri Ramachandra and my welfare is vested only in the recitation of the Ramanama.”

 

Sri Tulsidas Maharaj continues “Oh! Bhavare/insane, recite the Ramanama continuously, this Sri Ramanama would work as the safest ferry to cross the wilderness of the ocean of worldly existence. The safest ferry of Ramanama would work as a protective shield to the Jeeva, it would remove the impurities of Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, body and I consciousness, interest in material matters, possession, wealth, money, rich, and attachment to wife, children, relatives, and companion that are impermanent, and constantly hurl the Jeeva into grief and miseries. The practice of Ramanama would provide Ridhdhi as well as Siddhi. The Kali era has seized the Jeeva from the practice of austerities, Tapasya, Sadhana, Yoga, Niyama, Yama, Shamadhamadhi in the Jeeva, the evilness of the Kali era pushed the Jeeva to adopt immoral ways of living and wickedness, at this point of time, there is Ramanama only would protect the Jeeva from the vicious cycles of repeated births and miseries of worldly existence. It would remove the illusion in the Jeeva, the infinite Nama Roopa Dhrishya of Jagrathavastha/ awaken state have fleeting nature, as same as in the Swapnavastha/dream, the ignorant Jeeva get attached to Nama Roopa Dhrishya/worldly matters and bondage, in the Jagrathavastha and hurls into constant miseries and sorrow, the ignorant takes pride in the body and I consciousness/me, myself, and mine, that constantly undergoes a transformation, Jara, Vyadhi, and Marana. The infinite Nama Roopa Dhrishya in the Universe are the fortress of fumes, it has no existence and insignificant nature. Oh! Mind, do not get attached to those insignificant, momentary material matters, possession, wealth, richness, fame, money, attachment to children, wife, companion, and relatives, and hurl into constant grief and agonies, Jagath/Universe is Mithya/illusion, the supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva is eternal. Oh! Tulsidas, whoever keeps afar from the Ramanama is insane/dull,  are like the one who abandons sumptuous meal served before them and chases after stale meat like the dogs.”
