|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Adithya Hrudhaya is a glorious hymn constructed by Sage Agasthya and it has Anushtup as meter, it praises the glories of Lord Adithya/SooryaNarayana for the success in all the endeavors.

I shall prostrate before Lord Surya/Bhaskara who is worshiped by the whole Universe, Victory to Lord Surya who illuminates the seven worlds, he is the single provider of light, and the brilliant rays are capable to destroy the sins, miseries and grief.   Lord Surya is eulogized by Veda and Shasthras and attainable through the same, he is primordial and he is worshiped by the whole of the Universe.

Adityahrudayam is a sacred hymn praising the glories of Lord Surya was narrated by Sage Agastya to Lord Rama, in order to heighten the spirits of Lord Rama who felt exhausted in the ferocious battle with the demon Ravana.

Lord Rama was standing in the midst of the battle field all weary after a prolonged battle with well equipped army of warriors of the demon Ravana.  All the deities and sages were arrived to witness the ferocious battle, the illustrious Sage Agastya who was in the company of deities spoke to Lord Rama ‘Oh !mighty armed Rama ! My dear child! Listen carefully to the eternal secret that would help you to conquer your enemies and win over your adversaries.   Listen to the glorious hymn praising the glories of Lord Surya/Adityahrudayam which is highly auspicious and beneficial, which would bring victory and eternal happiness.  This supreme hymn would destroy all sins, dispel all qualms, alleviate grief and sorrows, anxiety and sufferings and ultimately it provides prosperity and longevity of life to the worshiper.  Worship Lord Surya who is the ruler of the Universe who was venerated by the deities and demons as well, he has the crown of brilliance of rays, appears in the horizon and spread dazzling light on the Earth.  He is the personification of all the deities, he is self-radiant and sustains everything with his astounding rays, and he nourishes and strengthens the inhabitants of the Universe, deities and demons as well.  He is the embodiment of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Lord Skanda, Prajapathi, Lord Indra, Lord Kubera, Kala/Time, Lord Yama, Lord Soma and Lord Varuna.  He is Pitrus, Ashta Vasus, Sadhya, Ashwini Kumaras, Maruths, Manu, Lord Vayu, Lord Agni, he is Prana/breath in living beings, originator of six seasons and provider of light.  He is the son of Aditi, the mother of deities.  He is all-pervading, he is the dispeller of darkness by providing brilliant golden rays, he has the possession of innumerable rays, distributes illuminating rays in various directions and creates day light.  He rides in a chariot pulled by seven horses, disbursing numerous rays and destroys darkness; he is the provider of happiness and prosperity, he is the remover of sufferings.  He is called Hiranyagarbha, born from the golden womb of Aditi, he is Shishirasthapana/destroyer of cold, fog and snow.  He is Ravi who is the bearer of fire and conch; he is the remover of ignorance and provider of fame.  He rules the sky, removes the darkness.  He is the master of the three Supreme Vedas such as Rig, Yaju and Sama.  He is the companion of Lord Varuna and provides abundance of rain.  He swiftly moves through the south of Vindhya Mountain and sports in Brahma Nadhi.  He appears circular, yellow in color surrounded by red hues; he is brilliant and provider of light & heat and causes the functioning of life and death on Earth.  He is the Lord of constellation of stars and planets.
My salutations to Lord Aditya who appears in twelve forms and his glories are described in twelve names.   My salutations to Lord of Sunset & Sunrise, my salutations to the Lord Aditya who rises from eastern mountains and set on the western.  My salutations to Lord of stellar bodies and day light, my salutations to the Lord Surya, son of Aditi provider of victory, devoutness and prosperity, My salutations to Lord Marthanda, son of Sage Mrugandu, who is valorous, vicious and travels fast.  My salutations to the one who bloom the lotuses with his very own appearance.  My salutations to Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Lord Surya who has the supreme brilliance and devourer of living beings like Rudra.  My salutations to the dispeller of darkness, supreme form of illumination, Lord of stellar bodies, remover of cloud, snow and cold and annihilator of ungrateful.  My salutations to Lord Surya who shines like molten gold, personification of Supreme knowledge, remover of ignorance and cosmic witness of all the living and non-living beings on Earth.  My salutations to the celestial architect Vishwakarma who is the part of creation and activities on the Earth.  My salutations to Lord Surya who create heat with his radiant rays and perform creation, preservation and destruction of all that appears.  My salutations to Lord Surya who evaporates the water and brings down to earth in the form of rain, my salutations to Lord Surya who wakens all the living beings from slumber, exemplifies as the sacrificial fire/Agnihothra and offers boon to the worshipper.  Lord Surya is the origin and protector of the four Vedas such as Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva. Oh! Raghava Oh! Rama, scion of Raghu Dynasty whoever sings or praising the glories of Lord Surya during sufferings, extreme anguish or lost in wilderness and afflicted with fear or anxiety would be relieved from their grief and sorrows.  If you worship Lord Surya, who is Lord of the Universe & Lord of Lords with utmost devotion and dedication and recite this glorious hymn thrice, you will attain triumph over your enemies.  Oh! Mighty armed Lord Rama, you will achieve victory over the demon Ravana.”  Thus, Sage Agstya blessed Lord Rama and predicted that Rama would slay the demon Ravana at the end of the battle and took leave to his abode.  After listening to Sage Agastya, Lord Rama felt blissful and relieved from the grief and anxiety.  He sincerely followed the advice of Sage Agastya, in a composed state of mind Lord Rama prepared to recite the auspicious hymns, after ablations Lord Rama performed the rite and recited the glorious hymns of Adityahrudayam.  Soon, Lord Rama regained immense strength which heightened his spirits and he lifted bow with great enthusiasm; with all those vigor regained Lord Rama approached the demon Ravana with a determination to kill him.  Lord Surya and the deities who were witnessing the fierce battle realized the destruction of Ravana and cheered Lord Rama.

Maharishi Narada continued “ Sugreeva described the prowess of Vali, after listening Rama promised to battle against Vali.  But Sugreeva suspected the skill of Rama; in order to gain confidence on Rama, he showed a mountain like mortal coil of demon Dhundhubi who was killed by Vali.  The colossal form of mortal coil of Dhundhubi was effortlessly heaved with a smile to a distance of ten Yojana by Rama who is strong with mighty stature.  Rama split opened seven huge Salavruksha along with the mountains and earth with a single arrow.  Sugreeva was extremely happy at the valor of Rama, he regained confidence in Rama, and they proceeded towards the cave in Kishkindha.   Sugreeva who is the commander of monkey warrior has the luster of precious yellow metal, he growled in a boisterous voice that brought Vali out of the cave.  Vali pacified his wife Thara and battled against Sugreeva, in the meantime Raghava shot an arrow against him and he died instantly.  Later, Sri Rama performed the coronation ceremony of  Sugreeva and crowned him as the King of Kishkindha.  Sugreeva conducted an assembly of monkey warriors and assigned them to various directions in search of daughter of Janaka.”
