Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, how many times I have cautioned you to leave your pride, jealousy, anger, ego, lust, desire, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, and take shelter at the lotus feet of Sri Nandhanandhan Lord Sri Krishna. Oh! Mortals, all your possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, wife, children, relatives, companion, etc. have fleeting nature, like the dream get disrupted immediately after the person awakes, all of these material matters would leave you one day or you have to leave them, nothing could follow you at the death bed, other the devotion at the lotus feet of Sri Nandhanandhan. Oh! Mortals, you have been hurling yourself in the repeated cycles of death and birth for so long, repeatedly shackled by Karma, you should be ashamed of it, listen to me carefully, you have no way to release yourself from the grief and sufferings of worldly existence/Thapathraya, and  repeated births, without the practice of devotion, singing in praise of Lord Syamsundhar.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, the life span is too short and uncertain, like the water bubbles, there is no specific time to leave the vital air/Prana/soul from the body, it may leave the body anytime, and the noose of death is a constant companion of all living and non-living things, hence leave your interest in worldly matters of possession, richness, wealth, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. abandon your lust, ego, desire, anger, jealousy, pride, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, and contemplate and meditate upon Lord  Sri Govinda. Oh! Mortals, the body is perishable, undergoes constant transformation, it becomes worthless in the absence of vital air/Prana/soul in it, and even the dogs and crows won’t find taste in it. If you do not believe in my words, read the scriptures and sacred texts that repeatedly speak about the ‘Karma’, all the living and non-livings are shackled by Karma, and the destiny is so powerful and unconquerable as well. Oh! Mortals, destiny is pre-written, it is irreversible. The Karma of the several births disperses the fruits of good and evil. Oh! Ignorant, this is not your first birth, you have been into the various Yonis/wombs of birds, animals, reptiles, humans, etc.  Oh! Mortals, do not wait too long to practice devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, the later years of age are miserable, and the ten sensory organs will shut down their functioning before that you take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, that would remove the sins of the present life, and the accumulated sins of several births too.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, leave interest in worldly matters of fleeting nature and contemplate and meditate upon supreme Lord Sri Govind, sing in praise of him in the remaining days of your life. Oh! Ignorant, the seconds spend without remembering the compassionate Lord Sri Hari is the most inauspicious and unfruitful in your life. Oh! Brother, the later years of age are miserable with illnesses, fear of death, and grief of separation from the beloved ones. During the old age, the mind and movements of the body become sluggish, limbs will not co-operate with the mind, it becomes fragile and motionless, you need the help of someone to perform the daily routine, and the sensory organs won’t work like the olden days, the audacity becomes dull, the airways get disrupted with air and water, eyesight become poor. Oh! Ignorant, after achieving the rarest birth as a human, don’t you want to achieve fruitfulness of it? Therefore, before it gets late, do not wait too long to take up austerities, practice vow, celibacy, Swadhyaya, Sathyam, Dhaya, Dhanam, Shamam, Dhamam, Astheyam, Ahimsa, Arjjavam, etc. and contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortals, do not take pride in lovely bodily appearance, youthfulness, clan, wealth, fame, richness, money, family, possession, etc. it is perishable, it is mere illusion like the dream gets disrupted immediately the person awake. The ignorant drenched in the Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, would not understand the arrival of the noose of death, Oh! Manushya, how could you dig a well for water, when your house is on the fire? Likewise, how can you take up the austerities or remember the sacred names of the Lord when the noose of death falls on your neck? Oh! Mortals, abandon your interest in worldly matters of possession, money, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. and surrender at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, and get rid of sufferings of worldly existence and repeated births.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, get rid of the impurities of the mind such as ego, pride, jealousy, lust, desire, anger, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, then surrender at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. The grave sins committed by lust and desire would bring severe punishment in the abode of Yama/death. Oh! Mortals, surrender at the lotus feet of all-pervasive supreme Bhramam Lord Sri Hari, he is Sacchidhanandhaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam reside as a soul in the Jeeva is pure, eternal bliss, unblemished, free from dualities of happiness and sorrow, good and evil, honor and disgrace, it has neither birth nor death. The Supreme Lord Sri Hari is the protector of the Universe and its living and non-living things, reside as a soul in you, he is the source of functioning of the mind, intellect, Chiththa, Ahamkara, Karma, and Gnanendhriyas, Panchaprana, etc. Oh! Mortals, I shall recommend you the most superior method to get rid of the Thapathraya/three kinds of grief and repeated cycles of birth, contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sri Hari with intense faith and devotion, it would provide eight kinds of supernatural powers while living on the Earth, and the supreme Lord Shyamsundhar would ease all the troubles while leaving the mortal coil.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortal, would you lose anything in reciting the Bhagavanama/sacred names of the Lord? You have achieved the rarest birth as a human after several births of pieties, do not leave it carelessly, you have no idea when you will achieve the birth as a human again like the fallen leaves cannot be refixed on the tree.  The objectives of human life are to practice devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and get rid of Thapathraya and repeated births. Oh! Mandhdhabudhdhi/dull-minded, the final moment of death is miserable, the three significant elements in the body, Vatha/space and air, Kapha/earth and water, and Piththa/fire and water would block your airways, it would take away the voice completely, even if you struggle hard to speak, only the air would come out, and while your parents watching you struggling, the noose of death would take away your vital air/Prana. The Bhramanda/ Universe and its living and non-living things undergo Pralaya/deluge several times; hence the birth and death of humans are insignificant. Oh! Mortals, the attachment to worldly matters of infinite sound, touch, passion, appearance, and smell is like a parrot that takes a nip of Semar fruit/sticky and tasteless, and later it works hard to get rid of the gluey thing from its beak. Oh! Mortals, the attachment to worldly matters of richness, possession, money, wealth, fame, children, companion, wife, relatives, etc. are like the ‘Semar fruit’ of gluey and tasteless, that has the fleeting nature and the attachment will go on until the noose of death hurls on your neck. Oh! Jeeva, during this satirical journey of life, why don’t you take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari? why don’t you fall in love with the compassionate Lord Sri Hari? Oh! Mortals, do not take pride in your body, it is perishable, it undergoes transformation on each and every second which is beyond our control, hence investing time in redecorating it is a worthless act.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, abandon your interest in worldly matters and contemplate and meditate upon Lord Govind by word, mind, and deed. Oh! Ignorant, the supreme Lord Sri Hari resides as a soul in the Jeeva is Karunamaya/kind, and Dheenabandhu/savior of distressed souls, hence practice pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, meditate upon him and achieve the serenity of mind. Oh! Jeeva, leave your Ahamkara, Mamakara, ego, lust, desire, jealousy, pride, and anger, do not waste your precious life engaging in pointless debate, and get rid of the impurities of the mind by undertaking austerities, vows, celibacy, Swadhyaya, Sathyam, Dhaya, Shamam, Dhamam, Dhanam, Astheyam, Arjjavam, etc. The all-pervasive supreme Lord Sri Hari resides as the soul is eternal bliss, pure, unblemished, and free from dualities, he is the source of welfare and happiness. The attachment to material matters of possession, richness, wealth, fame, money, children, companion, relatives, etc. could not provide permanent bliss, it is perishable, and it may leave you anytime hurling you in constant miseries and grief. The Veda and scriptures emphasize the Narahari Roopa/half lion-half man incarnation of Lord Sri Hari protect his child devotee Prahladha can liberate even the grave sinner. Oh! Mortals, singing in praise of endless glories of Lord Sri Hari, listening and reading his glorious legends, would drive away from the accumulated sins of several births, there is no wealth superior to the devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, he is extremely kind and compassionate to his devotees, he is most benevolent, auspicious, and source of eternal bliss. Oh! Mortal, Lord Sri Krishna who is the protector of cowherds and cows, sings in praise of the glorious legends of Dheenadhayal Sri Gopala would melt your heart.  Oh! Ignorant, Bhavasagara, the unfathomable ocean of worldly existence is extremely dangerous and horrific with wild aquatic animals resembles the sufferings and grief which is mounting like the fast-moving dark clouds in the sky, that would crush the Jeeva from four sides. Oh! Mortal, Lord Sri Hari is the only one who would protect you at the death bed when the noose of Yama/death falls around your neck. Oh! Ignorant, abandon your chase for material and physical pleasures, remember that you are surrounded by the colossal fame-like noose of death from four sides. One day, the Kalaroopi/death form of the serpent would swallow you deliberately, before that take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and get rid of Thapathraya and repeated cycles of birth.”

Mind, fall in love with the constant recitation of ‘Sri Ramanama’, it would protect you from the Thapathraya/three kinds of grief 1) grief caused by epidemic, earthquake, flood, famine, drought, woodfire, etc. 2) grief caused by the loss of possession, wealth, richness, fame, money, children, wife, relatives, companion, etc. 3) grief caused by aging, illnesses, fear of death, separation from beloved ones, etc.  The Sri Ramanama would protect you from the grief and sufferings of worldly existence like the fence protects the crops from impostors.  Oh! Mind, the mind like a parrot locked up in your body always seeks the Vishayaroopivisha/toxic poison like the interest in worldly matters of diversified nature, hence keep it under good control, don’t let it wander around seeking material and physical pleasure, otherwise, it would get caught by the Mrithyuroopi /death like cat anytime. Oh! Mind, leave your interest in worldly matters, Ahamkara, Mamakara, lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride, anger, etc. and take great pleasure in the Bhagavannamaroopi Sethu/ocean-like pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, thereby cross the unfathomable ocean of worldly existence. Oh! Mortals, as a preceptor I permit you to take shelter in the Sri Govindhanama, sing in praise of the glorious legends of Lord Sri Hari, contemplate and meditate upon him.”

Mind, listen to me carefully, if you want to get rid of the sufferings and grief of worldly existence, and repeated cycles of birth, take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and ‘Sri Ramanama’, Otherwise, you would hurl into the sixty-four lakhs Yonis/womb of birds, animals, reptiles and humans, etc. and repeatedly undergo Garbhavasadhukham/sufferings in the womb and constant grief of worldly existence. Oh! Mind, abandon your interest in worldly matters and remain in the association of Santh, Mahathma, noble souls who represent merchants of Sri Ramanamaroopi gem, and buy the gems of Sri Ramanama in abundance, during this process, you would get rid of Kama/lust, Krodha/anger, Lobha/greed, Moha/desire, Madha/pride, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara. Oh! Mind, while acquiring the precious Sriramanamaroopi gems, keep yourself highly vigilant, not to get looted by the interest in worldly matters/infinite Shabdha/sound, Sparsha/touch, Rasa/passion, Roopa/appearance, Gandha/smell like thieves, and safely take Sriramanamaroopi Gem to the abode of Lord Sri Hari. The Sri Ramanamaroopi gem would guide your transition after life on Earth, it would safely cross the abodes of demi-gods, and you won’t find any obstacles in crossing Vaitharani, the deities would receive you with great honor and respectfully dispatch you to the abode of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortals, none of your wealth, possession, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. won’t follow you in an afterlife, therefore it is futile to get attached to worldly matters of impermanent nature. Oh! Mortals, listen to me carefully, abandon your interest in infinite Shabdha, Sparsha, Rasa, Roopa, and Gandha of the Universe, it cannot provide permanent bliss, instead, it would hurl you in constant grief and suffering in the absence of them, hence undertake the practice of devotion and sing in praise of Lord Sri Hari, this is the only one trade that could provide fruitfulness in your life.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, the Veda, and scriptures emphasize that the Bhagavathprapthi/Bhramanandham/eternal bliss is impossible to achieve without the pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. Hence, leave your interest in worldly matters of possession, wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion and relatives, etc. and take shelter in the association of Santh, Mahathma, noble souls, and engage yourself in Sri Ramanama Smaran, learn to practice the nine kinds of devotion/Navadhabhakthi 1) Shravanam/listening to glorious legends of Lord Sri Hari 2) Keerthanam/sing in praise of the glory of Lord 3) Smaranam/remembering the Lord 4) Padhasevanam/worship of the idol 5) Archanam/worship of the idol in a prescribed manner 6) Vandhanam/prostrate before the deity 7) Dhasyam/serving the Lord and his devotees 8) Sakhyam/worship of Lord as a friend 9) Athmanivedham/complete surrender at the lotus feet of the Lord. These nine kinds of worship would remove the impurities of lust, desire, ego, arrogance, ignorance, anger, pride, and jealousy. Oh! Mortals, the five sensory organs /eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and skin, are the destroyer of pieties earned in the several births, hence undertake the practice of austerities, vows, celibacy, truthfulness, purity of mind, Shama, Dhama, Dhanam, Shaucham, Dhaya, Astheyam, Arjjavam, etc. These Karma and Gnanendhriyas are the stealers of pieties like wealth. The three of the Purusharththas Arththa/wealth, Dharma/righteousness, and Kama/desire can provide welfare and happiness while living on the Earth, but cannot provide welfare afterlife, hence concentrate on the Moksha/renunciation. Oh! Mortals, the impurities of the mind such as lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride, anger, arrogance, and ignorance, would shove you into the utter illusion like the beautiful woman who takes complete control of the man. Oh! Mortal, contemplate and meditate upon Lord Govinda, and get rid of sufferings and grief of worldly existence and repeated births.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, practice the constant recitation of Sri Ramanama with intense faith at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and believe that there are no Yajja/fire sacrifices, or Vedic rites, superior to it. The demon Hiranyakashipu did not believe in devotion to Lord Sri Hari or Harinama Smaran, finally, he has driven afar from the Sacchidhanandhaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam, and later met a tragic death in the hands of Sri Narahari/the half lion-half man incarnation of Lord Sri Hari. Prabhu Sri Hari protected his child devotee Prahladha from all the troubles and appeared before him at his request from one of the pillars, hence remember that Lord Sri Hari is promising to his devotee always, and dreadful to the wicked demons. The elephant Gajaraj, Ganika/prostitute, Gridhraraj/Jatayu, Byadh/hunter, were taken shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Rama and liberated from the sins and sufferings of worldly existence as well. Oh! Mortals, the nectar-like pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari fill your vessel like intellect and you will see the miracles in your life. Oh! Mortal, Devi Dhraupadhi was humiliated in the large assembly of Kaurava, her clothes were seized by Dusshashan, she cried out for help, ultimately remembered Lord Krishna, soon a heap of clothes appeared from the sky to protect her from further disgrace, whenever sons of Pandu were in danger, the compassionate Lord Sri Krishna was there to protect them, because of their pure love and faith upon him. In the epic battle of Kurukshetra, there were several mighty warriors like Karna, Duryodhana and his hundreds of brothers of equivalent might, Dhronacharya, Bhishmapithamaha Shakuni, etc. were killed, even after possessing a huge army of Narayanisena of Krishna, the Kauravas could not win the battle, on the other hand, the Pandavas were possessed less than the size of the army of Kauravas, even after all these, the Pandavas won over the Kauravas because they had immense faith on Lord Krishna. Oh! Mortals, the twice-born Ajamila abandoned the Brahminic way of life, his family, and his elderly parents left to the woods and chose to live with a prostitute. At the death bed, the dreadful emissaries of Lord Yama appeared before Ajamila, he cried for his younger son ‘Narayana’, and soon the emissaries of Lord Vishnu appeared before him and liberated him. Oh! Mortal, the recitation of the sacred names of Lord Sri Hari has miraculous power to protect from all the miseries and grief of worldly existence, the mere remembrance of Lord Sri Hari would do all the miracles. The Supreme Lord Sri Hari is the source of four Purusharththa/Dharma -righteousness, Arththa/wealth, Kama/desire, and Moksha/renunciation. He is Kalpavruksha/wish-fulfilling tree, hence leave your interest in worldly matters of fleeting nature and contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortal, worship at the lotus feet of Shri Gopal and take shelter in him.”

Oh! Prabho, I was enthusiastically engaged in serving the distressed and remained in the association of your devotees, now I have become motionless, my limbs have become fragile, and I require someone to help me to perform my routine tasks. Oh! Prabho, you have been kind and compassionate to your devotees, like the eyelid protects the eyes from the dust. Oh! Prabho, whenever I was in fear and anxiety in the foreign lands, oceans, unknown regions, forests, etc. you have been protecting me.  Oh! Prabho, Oh! Jagannatha, you are the protector of the Universe and its living and non-living things. Oh! Kripasagara/ocean of mercy, how did I describe your endless glories in words. Oh! Prabho, I have understood that I have reached the later years of my age, and my limbs have become fragile hence the movements are restricted, the sense organs have lost their power, my limbs are not following the instructions of the brain, and I have become less productive, the body is aching and mind is gloomy always, constantly falling prey to illnesses, sometimes my speeches are muddling, speak something which was not intended, even the speeches are not coordinating with my mind, hence I can’t express my feelings by words, my eyesights has become poor, constant drooling from the mouth has become a mockery, my intellect and visions are weak, mind and body are not willing to function as they were used to be in the good days. The capacity to think and act fast has completely stopped. Oh! Prabho, I have become miserable, motionless, and require somebody’s help to perform my routine, I heartily pray for putting an end to the sufferings of worldly existence. Oh! Mortals, do not take pride in your body or material possession, wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. it has fleeting nature, either you have to leave them, or it may leave you, therefore, abandon the interest in worldly matters, and contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sharangapani/Lord Rama and sing in praise of his endless glories.”

Prabho, I have wasted my entire life falling prey to diversified matters of worldly existence, the major part of the human body is made up of water and it is more delicate than paper, then how did the Prana/vital air protect the body? Oh! Prabho, this body is undergoing constant transformation, it is bound by time, and it is definite that one day it will be out of use, I am an unfortunate Jeeva, I did not put the rarest birth as human for austerities, Japa, Thapa, Yajja, Dhanam, Dhaya, Sathyam, Shamam, Dhamam, Astheyam, ARjjavam, Bhramacharya,  Satsang, Thaththvavichara, Bhramamjjyanam, Swadhyaya, etc. Oh! Prabho, I have downtrodden the rarest birth as a human by utilizing it for material and physical pleasures, the tongue always sought after for various tastes, the ears were interested in gossips, the hands and legs were moving in the unwanted areas, the eyes were taken great pleasure in infinite and diversified matters of the Universe, in this way, I have wasted most of my life. Alas! I did not experience permanent bliss from the above deeds. Oh! Ignorant mortals, listen to me carefully, there is no way to get rid of three kinds of grief and the fear of repeated births, other than sing in praise of Lord Sharangapani/Lord Sri Hari, the difficult days are yet to come, at the death bed no one will protect you from the dreadful emissaries of Lord of death/Yama, hence, leave your attachment in worldly matters of fleeting nature, and contemplate upon Lord Sri Hari.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, you have cut off love and devotion to Lord Sri Hari and driven afar from the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, for What? Whom did you secure your life with? You have been madly chasing after the material and physical pleasure and driven afar from the supreme Bhramam residing as a soul in you and you have made attachment with the infinite Shabdha/sound, Sparsha/touch, Rasa/passion, Roopa/appearance, and Gandha/smell of fleeting nature. Oh! Ignorant, all those material possessions, fame, richness, wealth, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. cannot follow you while you leave the Earth. All those material wealth, possessions, fame, and richness, cannot bring an eternal bliss to you, the Ahamkara/arrogance and Mamakara/ignorance take away the fruitfulness of your life, Oh! Ignorant, the Ahamkara and Mamakara last until the noose of death fall on your neck. The material welfare and youthfulness, pride in wealth, fame, richness, family, clan, etc. are perishable, like the pond that dries in the summer. You have willfully soaked your intelligence in the impurities of mind such as lust, desire, anger, ego, jealousy, pride, arrogance, and ignorance, it could not bring pieties, instead, it would accumulate sins by word, mind, and deed. Oh! Ignorant, whoever has taken pride in their intelligence, richness, fame, wealth, possession, clan, etc. have heaved themselves in utter misery. Oh! Unfortunate, it is impossible to get rid of Thapathraya/the three kinds of grief – 1) grief from natural calamities, epidemic, flood, earthquake, drought, famine, woodfire, etc. 2) grief from the loss of possession, wealth, money, richness, children, wife, companion and relatives and finally 3) grief from aging, illnesses, fear of death and repeated births, the pain of separation from beloved ones, etc. without the practice of devotion and worship of Lord Sri Hari.  Oh! Mortals, the rarest birth as a human should be utilized to get rid of Thapathraya, and repeated births by undertaking austerities, vows, celibacy, truthfulness, kindness, non-violence, purity of mind, astheyam, arjjavam, Shamadhamadhi, etc. like the festival ‘Holi’, burn all the impurities in the fire of austerities before leaving the Earth.”

Mortals, all the relationships such as father, mother, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. formed in this life may continue to linger with you till the end of your life, but once the Prana/vital air leaves the human body, it would be declared as a corpse, and put into the fire that turns ashes or buried under Earth would feed the worms, after that no one would remember about the deceased. Hence, do not take pride in yourself and material matters, possession, wealth, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. it has impermanent nature. Oh! Mortal, always do good for the welfare of all by word, mind, and deed, observing austerities, celibacy, vows, self-control, truthfulness, kindness, charity, non-violence, purity of mind/free from lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride, anger, Ahamkara, and Mamakara. The constant chase for the appeasement of physical and mental pleasure would heave the Jeeva into endless miseries and grief, and the wealth, possession, richness, fame, and money amassed in the mad rush has a short life, it won’t last for long. Oh! Mortal, leave your chase for material and physical pleasures, the Universe and its diversified matters of Shabdha/sound, Sparsha/touch, Rasa/passion, Roopa/appearance, and Gandha/smell has impermanent nature, whoever takes birth has to leave the world one day.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, contemplate, and meditate upon the sacred names of Lord Sri Hari, and put it into your mind that there are no superior Yajja/fire sacrifices to Harinama Smaran/remembrance of sacred names of Lord Sri Hari. The demon King Hiranyakashipu driven afar from the devotion and faith upon Lord Sri Hari, finally, Lord Sri Hari incarnated as half lion and half man at the appeal of his child devotee Prahladha/son of Hiranyakashipu and ripped off the chest of the demon. Oh! Mind, the supreme Lord Sri Hari is most promising to deities, Santh, Mahathma, and noble souls, he is the enemy of wicked demons. The elephant/Gajendra, Ghridhraraj/Jatayu, Ganika/prostitute, and Byadh/hunter, got rid of their sins with their devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Jeeva, the nectar-like pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari fill into the vessel like your heart, let it overflow from your heart, that would protect you from the Thapathraya/the grief and sufferings of worldly existence and repeated births. Oh! Mortal, Devi Dhraupadhi was humiliated in the large assembly of Kaurava, and Dhusshasan tried to remove her clothes, there was no one to protect her, she cried for help calling ‘Govinda’, the next moment a heap of clothes was offered by Lord Krishna protected Devi Dhraupadhi from further disgrace, in this way, whenever Pandavas was troubled by the Kauravas, the supreme Lord Sri Krishna was there to protect them from all the hardships. Oh! Mortals, the great battle of Kurukshetra held between the Pandavas/righteousness and Kauravas/evil, killed the eminent warriors like Karnna, Dhuryodhan, Dhusshasan, and their hundreds of brothers, Shakuni, etc. Oh! Mortal, the twice-born Ajamila who abandoned Bhraminic life, family, and aged parents to appease his lust, lived with a prostitute in the forest, finally, at the death bed, he called for his younger son ‘Narayana’ out of fear, thus he got freed from the noose of Yama/death, and became a fervent devotee of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortal, Lord Sri Krishnachandra is the source of the four Purusharththa 1) Dharma/righteousness, 2)Arththa/wealth 3) Kama/desire, and 4) Moksha/renunciation, he is Kalpavruksha/wish-fulfilling tree, hence contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sri Hari, leaving interest in worldly matters of possession, richness, fame, money, wealth, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. of fleeing nature that would shovel into constant grief/Thapathraya/three kinds of grief.”

Prabho, I have wasted the precious birth as a human drenched in worldly matters and bondage, I was chasing after the material and physical pleasure of momentary nature, I have been so attached to the possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, children, wife, companion, relative, etc. which has the nature of ‘DREAM’, hence I did not practice the devotion or worship of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Prabho, sometimes I was blindly throwing myself into the worldly pleasure, enthusiastically running after my children, and grandchildren, taking immense pleasure in their association, taking them on my lap, and engaging in various amusements, some other times, I was taking pride in the company of wealthiest people, enjoying haughty conversations and debates, or dressed up like the wealthiest, tied costly turban around the head and walking through the immoral ways. Oh! Prabho, Unfortunately, I did not remember the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, until the aging, illnesses, the fear of death, and separation from beloved ones troubled my loveliness, strength, luster, attractiveness, enthusiasm, etc.”

Prabho, I have thoroughly understood the truth, the Universe and its diversified matters are perishable, and the happiness derived from the material and physical pleasures have fleeting nature, hence worldly matters cannot provide permanent bliss. The happiness derived out of material possession, wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion and relatives, etc. has fleeting nature, therefore it hurls the Jeeva in constant miseries and grief in the absence and dependence of the same, like the elephant that destroys its mirror image on the crystal thinking the image as its opponent. Oh! Prabho, you are all-pervasive supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva, you are absolute bliss, you are the protector of the Universe and its living and non-living things, and you are omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. Oh! Prabho, I was drenched in your powerful Maya/illusion, and I was chasing after the material and physical pleasures of momentary nature, during this mad rush I have driven afar from the Sacchidhanandhaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam reside as a soul in me, hence I have caused self-destruction. Oh! Mind, if you want to experience the permanent bliss, abandon your interest in worldly matters/Samsara, it's nothing other than illusion, and it has fleeting nature like the dream gets disrupted immediately after the person is awake, therefore contemplates and meditates upon the supreme Bhramam reside as a soul in you.”

Prabho, I have wasted the rarest birth as a human, I did not succeed in the two important things of worldly existence 1) I did not practice devotion or worship of Lord Sri Hari 2) I did not achieve permanent bliss in the worldly matters of fleeting natured. Oh! Prabho, very often my expectations were overthrown, I had to meet unexpected events in life. I was so ignorant, I did not achieve Bakthi/devotion, Gnana/wisdom, or Vairagya/renunciation, hence the happenings in life were strange, unable to understand. Oh! Prabho, I have spent day and night soaked in worldly matters and was chasing after material and physical pleasures, I was drenched in possession, wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. like the Chakora bird that yearningly look at the full moon. The Chakoraroopi mind of mine resembles the darkness of ignorance continued to take pleasure in the infinite material and physical objects, eventually I was thrown into the constant grief and sufferings of three kinds 1) grief from natural calamities, famine, drought, woodfire, earthquake, epidemic, etc. 2) grief from the loss of fame, wealth, money, richness, children, wife, companion, relatives, and 3) finally the grief from aging, illnesses, fear of death, separation from beloved ones, etc./ I was repeatedly shoved into the woodfire like the Thapathrya/ grief of worldly existence. Oh! Prabho, I was wandering aimlessly, but I did not stop taking pleasure in worldly matters, hence, I have abandoned the luster of the moon like the sparkles from your lotus feet which could remove the darkness of ignorance instantly. Oh! Prabho, I have wasted my entire life turned away from your lotus feet, I have lost the opportunity to achieve the fruitfulness of life. Oh! Kripanidhi, you are the source of welfare and eternal bliss, singing in praise of your virtues and reading and listening to your endless glories is ultimate bliss, unfortunately, I did not do it.”

Prabho, I have reached the later years of age, my limbs have become fragile, my movements have been restricted, my mind is not willing to co-operate with the limbs, my sense organs are not functioning properly, and I have lost enthusiasm, luster, loveliness, fame, attractiveness, etc. Oh! Prabho, the days of childhood, adulthood, and youthfulness which were ruled by the Thithi, Nakshathra, Vara, Lagna, Graha, etc. that represents Lord Sri Hari, was impressive. Oh! Prabho, no one is interested to watch my horoscope in the later years of age, because I have lost all the enthusiasm, glories, and attractiveness, hence the people have lost their interest and expectation in me, and no one is interested to approach me to fulfill their objectives. Oh! Prabho, I have been drenched in the interest of worldly matters, my entire life has been spent in amassing wealth, richness, possession, and purchases of houses and properties for the children and wife, I have been adding the highest honor to my family and the welfare of the members. Alas! In my later years of age, no one in the family cares for me or expresses their concern, all have turned their faces away from me, I was completely neglected, and the dogs once that have taken pleasure on my lap have turned away from me. Oh! Prabho, I have abandoned by my own people as the years pass by, like the Varshika Panchanga/yearly sacred text details about the upcoming events around the globe/ that has no use once it's read, cannot be re-used. Oh! Prabho, I shall surrender at your lotus feet, my Karmadhosha/sins committed by mind, word, deed/troubled me with the constant pain, miseries, and sufferings of worldly existence/Thapathraya/three kinds of grief, kindly protect me.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, my entire life has been wasted in worldly matters of infinite Shabda, Sparsha, Rasa, Roopa, and Gandha. Oh! Prabho, the three important phases of life such as Balyavastha/childhood, Kishoravastha/adulthood, and Tharunavastha/youthful days, were misused, now I have reached the later years of age, the lines on the forehead and grey hairs are visible, eyes have lost its sight, the hearing capacity has reduced, my limbs have become fragile, and it is not coordinating with the mind, my sense organs have lost its functioning. The access to the sacred waters of Ganga has been overlooked hence drinking the waters of the well, the faith in Lord Sri Hari has diminished and the worship of our own body has increased for the immediate fulfillment of desires. Oh! Prabho, I did not use the mind, words, and deed for singing in praise of the virtues of Lord Sri Hari, or serving the devotees of Lord and preceptors, or did not strive to achieve the Purusharththa/Dharma/righteousness, Arththa/wealth, Kama/desire, and Moksha/liberation from worldly existence. Oh! Ignorant, you have drenched in the Maya of Mayapathi, and driven afar from the grace of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortals, slow down your chase for worldly matters of fleeting nature, otherwise, you would go through constant miseries and grief of worldly existence like the moon at the time of the eclipse, it’s a well-known legend that the Rahu does not leave causing afflictions on the moon and sun even after cutting off its body with the dice of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Dull-minded, you can’t get rid of the sufferings of worldly existence without an interest in Ramanama Ruchi. Oh! Jeeva, the recitation of Ramanama does not cost  you a single penny, why don’t you take interest in singing in praise of the Lord Sri Hari ?.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, this body was not put into use for the worship of Lord Sri Hari or devotees of Lord Sri Hari or in the service of Santh, Mahathma, noble souls. Oh! Prabho, I am shameless to accept that this body did not take pleasure in the association of Santh, Mahathma, noble souls who constantly sing in praise of Lord Sri Hari, it does not put into use for the performance of austerities, vows, celibacy, Shamadhamadhi, etc. ironically, it was enthusiastically chasing after the physical as well as material matters drenched in lust, desire, ego, pride, Ahamkara, Mamakara, anger, and jealousy. Oh! Prabho, this body did not take pleasure in visiting the sacred shrines and rivers, or enjoy the worship of Lord Sri Hari, or bow before the presiding deity, or taking a dip in the holy Theertha. Oh! Mortals, the Jeeva do not practice pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, or strive to achieve to get rid of impurities of mind such as Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara by observing austerities, vows, celibacy, Japa, Thapa, Dhyanam, Dhaya, Sathyam, Astheyam, Ahimsa, Dhama, Shama, Arjjvam, Swadhyaya, etc. it is impossible to achieve serenity of mind, or get rid of constant sufferings and grief of worldly existence or repeated births. The unfortunate ones drenched in worldly matters of possession, wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc., would constantly hurl themselves into endless miseries and grief, continues to take birth in different Yonis of animals, birds, reptiles, humans, etc. like a blind person. The ignorant and unfortunate ones choose to consume the toxic poison of worldly matters leaving the nectar-like devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, I have neglected the rarest birth as a human, I did not practice Japa, Thapa, Dhyanam, Sathyam, Dhaya, Dhanam, Astheyam, Arjjavam, Ahimsa, Shamam, Dhamma, Bhramacharya, Swadhyaya, etc. hence I did not achieve the serenity of mind and fruitfulness of my life. Oh! Prabho, I have given unwanted struggles and labor pain to my mother while in the womb, and suffering after birth. Oh! Prabho, I was born dull-minded, so I have not engaged in the worship of Lord Sri Hari, or not practiced celibacy, vows, austerities, self-control, charity, kindness, truthfulness, non-violence, etc. or I did not strive to get rid of interest in worldly matters of possession, richness, wealth, money, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. or I did not get rid of lust, desire, ego, jealousy, anger, pride, Ahamkara, and Mamakara. All that I have developed my wickedness and deceitfulness being in the association of people drenched in worldly matters. Oh! Prabho, you are the essence of the Universe and its living and non-living things, you are all-pervasive Bhramam reside as a soul in the Jeeva, you are omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, after all these, you have been silently witnessed the atrocities of your powerful Maya/illusion, who have taken complete control of living and non-living things in the Universe. Oh! Prabho, your powerful Maya has taken away the wealth of pieties earned in several births. Oh! Mortals, sing in praise of the virtues of Lord Sri Hari and get rid of Thapathraya/three kinds of grief and repeated births.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, I haven’t practiced devotion or worship of Lord Yadhunatha, singing in praise of him,  following austerities, being in the association with the Santh, Mahathma, noble souls.  I have spent my entire life wandering aimlessly, chasing after material and physical pleasures, sitting idle and hurling myself into various troubles and sins, engaging in the heated debates of futile matters, or enjoying eating and drinking or in the association of women, like the magician performs various acts during this satirical journey of worldly existence, I have achieved immense wealth, honor, richness, and later I have recognized as a pauper. Oh! Prabho, I have never been cautious of the time while I was chasing after the worldly matters of richness, wealth, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. of fleeting nature, I did not make an effort to slow down my mad chase after the physical and material pleasures. Oh! Prabho, I have lost track of time, eventually driven afar from the practice of devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, I am helpless now like the fish out of the water. Oh! Prabho, my fate has drawn me into a pathetic state, how did I achieve nearness to that Lord Shyamsundhar, and get rid of Thapathraya of worldly existence and repeated births?”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, I am worn out of sufferings and grief of worldly existence, my attachment to worldly matters of possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, children, wife, companion and relatives, etc., hurled me into unending sufferings, my interest in worldly matters driven me afar from you, and I was constantly chasing after the material and physical pleasures of fleeting natured. Oh! Prabho, your powerful Maya/illusion shackled me, even though I tried hard to get freed, it was not letting me free. Oh! Prabho, I was soaked in your Maya, I did not practice devotion or worship at your lotus feet, or sing in praise of your virtues, or observe austerities and Shamadhamadhi, or I did not take pleasure in the company of Santh, Mahathma, noble souls. Oh! Prabho, even after I have masked as a noble soul, clothed as Mahathma/saintly person, lecturing about Bhakti/devotion, Gnana/wisdom, and Vairagya/renunciation, I could not help myself to get out your unconquerable Maya. Oh! Prabho, I could not get rid of impurities of mind such as lust, desire, ego, pride, jealousy, anger, Ahamkara, and Mamakara.  Oh! Mortals, the Jeeva who have no Bhagavathprema/pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari won’t bring honor, just like the widow forced herself into simple clothing and restricted lifestyle immediately after the death of her husband, that does not bring respect to her in the society.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortal, the rarest birth as a human is difficult to attain, and never assume that it can be achieved again and again, Oh! Ignorant, the precious birth as a human achieved after several pieties of previous births, the ultimate truth is that the life span getting reduced on each and every second, the way the cells and the human body undergoes constant transformation, life is unpredictable, the noose of death is hanging above the head incessantly. Oh! Mortal, the trees cut down cannot be refixed, and the leaves worn out of the tree cannot be fixed again, in the same manner, the Ayu/life span is getting reduced from the day of birth and it cannot be reversed. All the living and non-living things in the Universe are bound by the ‘time’ factor, the time wasted chasing after the material and physical pleasures cannot be taken back, the time wasted soaked in the infinite and diversified matters of Shabdha/sound, Sparsha/touch, Rasa/passion, Roopa/appearance, and Gandha/smell has fleeting nature, it is perishable and it cannot provide permanent bliss. The attachment to possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc., is an illusion, like the dreams that have momentary life, the dream gets disappeared as soon as the person awakes. The arrogance, ignorance, lust, desire, ego, pride, and jealousy would shovel the Jeeva into extreme darkness of hellish tortures, in the form of constant sufferings and grief of worldly existence. Oh! Jeeva, contemplate and meditate upon the Supreme Lord Sri Hari who resides as a soul, and get rid of the Mrithyuroopi/fear of death and ocean of worldly existence as well.”
