Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath – Chapter -  7- 3

Chapter – 3- The conversation between Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 41 - 60

Vidura speaks “ Oh! Bharatharsbhabha, an intelligent person is the one, who foresee the troubles and well prepared to face them all, will have a clear cut idea about immediate action, will have clear memories of past mistakes, and will make all efforts not to repeat them; these types of people never meet destruction. Oh! Rajan, the person who sincerely strives hard for something which is desired by words, deed, and mind would achieve the same, therefore always think and act for the welfare of all. Oh! Rajan, the constant association with the Sajjana would bring auspiciousness, virtue; inculcate hard-working nature to achieve success, the practice of Yoga, knowledge in scriptures, perseverance, enthusiasm, etc. Oh! Rajan, grief is the root cause for the inauspiciousness, therefore the person who is free from grief would achieve all the auspiciousness, fame, and success in life. Oh! Rajan, the person who holds a responsible position should have great endurance power which brings auspiciousness and welfare. Oh! Rajan, a weak person keeps amiable all the times; a strong person will keep amiable while performing Dharmic rites. The person who considers profit and loss as a part of the business will have great endurance power. Oh! Rajan, the types of pleasure that do not affect Dharma and Arththa of a person should be enjoyed at the fullest, but never be a fool who drenched in pleasures without any control on sense. Oh! Rajan, these kinds of people lack auspiciousness and undergo constant afflictions 1) depressed 2) careless 3) non-believer 4) lazy 5) people who have no control over sense and 6) unenthusiastic, the powerful take control over these people.  Hence, humble, kind, and compassionate people become the victim of harassment.  Oh! Rajan, listen to me, these kinds of people will not approach by the Goddess of wealth, she gets scared of these kinds of people. 1) person who performs an abundance of charities without the knowledge of the income 2) kind-hearted people 3) valorous 4) person who sincerely follows the vows and 5) person who is proud of his intelligence.  Oh! Rajan, 1) Veda encourages the performance of Agnihotra, 2) learning scriptures provides virtues, 3) wife provides sensual pleasures, 4) wealth provides the sense of charity, and take pleasure in it.  Oh! Rajan, the Sathkarma/charities, religious, and spiritual rites performed with the money earned in an immoral means would not bring piousness.  The money earned in sinful ways will not provide welfare afterlife/Paraloka and while living on Earth.  Oh! Rajan, strong people will not get scared even if they were attacked with a weapon in lonely places, dense wood, difficult pathways, and dangerous areas. Oh! Rajan, hard work,  control over sense, skill, concentration and dedication,  enthusiasm, great memory power, the performance of deed with thorough knowledge in it, would bring auspiciousness. Oh! Rajan, 1 ) the strength of Tapasvis are their austerities and penance, 2) the strength of Bhramajjyani is the knowledge in scriptures, Veda,  and Vedantha, 3) the strength of a wicked person is violence, and 4) the strength of the virtuous person is patience. Oh! Rajan, 1) water 2) fiber roots and vegetables 3) fruits 4) milk 5) ghee 6) follow the advice of Bhramin and preceptor 7) consumption of herbal medicines won’t create obstacles to austerities and vow. Oh! Rajan, do not impose rules on others which is unfavorable to you. Oh! Rajan, 1)  Krodha/anger can be conquered by silence/patience; 2) wicked should be conquered by goodness, 3) miser should be conquered by charity, 4)  untruthfulness can win over by the truthfulness. Oh! Rajan, do not keep trust on these people 1) Sthree/woman 2) deceitful person 3) lazy people 4) coward 5) merciless person 6) proud and haughty person 7) thief 8) ungrateful person 9) non-believer. Oh! Rajan, the person who respects the elderly people and loves their company would develop Keerthi/fame, Ayuss/long life, Yashass/goodness, and Balam/strength.”

Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath – Chapter -  7- 2

Chapter – 2 - The conversation between Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 21 - 40

Vidura speaks “Oh! Bharatharshabha, people who desire progress and welfare in life do not engage in conflict with relatives. Oh! Bharathavamshaja, the happiness should be shared with the relatives, it is necessary to share meals, love, and important information with the relatives, it would enhance the welfare of the family, therefore enmity with the relatives should be avoided. Oh! Rajan, relatives can either make you or break you, if they are virtuous they would bring progress in your life, otherwise, they would destroy you. Oh! Rajendra, you have great respect for the virtuous people, why do not you respect the Pandavas and treat them as your children? Be kind and compassionate to them, you will remain unconquerable under their protection. Oh! Rajan, if the wealthiest relative creates trepidation, by mere witnessing him in another person like a deer met a hunter, all the sins of that person would go to the wealthiest relative. Oh! Rajan, if Pandavas or Kauravas one of them would definitely get killed in the epic battle, it would certainly put you in intense grief; it would push you in extreme guilt as well. Therefore think about all those forthcoming battles and its after-effects. Oh! Rajan, life is unpredictable, do not commit mistakes and regret later, hence think before you act. Oh! Rajan, the intelligent people will have a clear cut idea of the aftereffects of their actions; they foresee actions and its consequences,   so they do not perform anything which could bring permanent grief. Illustrious Shukracharya/Bhargava who is the composer of Neethishasthra is the only one who did not act against Dharma. Oh! Nareshwara, you are the chief of the clan of Kurus, it is your responsibility to remove the sins of Kauravas who have committed various sins.  They put the Pandavas into extreme miseries and troubles; you have to perform the atonement for all those sins. Oh! Narashreshta, all your sins would get removed if you crowned the Pandava as the King of Hasthinapur, in that way you can become sinless, and remain respected in the society. Oh! Rajan, the person who sincerely follows the advice of the intellectuals and its consequences, performs the tasks with thorough understanding, in this way they would achieve success and fame. Oh! Rajan, humility destroys the sufferings of poverty, valorous nature would protect from troubles, endurance would bring control on Krodha/anger, strict performance of religious and spiritual rites would destroy inauspiciousness. Oh! Rajan, the nature of a person can be understood by his family members, status, home, behavior, eating habits, and way of dressing. Oh! Rajan, the co-ordination of mind, secret tasks, and knowledge would work well. Oh! Rajan, it is dangerous to have friendship with a wicked, the intelligent people will not have friendship with the wicked people, and it is like a well covered with grass. Oh! Rajan, intelligent people will not have friendship with these kinds of people 1) pride and haughty 2) dull-minded 3) gets angry easily 4) adventurous 5) Adharmi. Oh! Rajan, it is important to achieve friendship with these kinds of people 1) grateful 2) person who sincerely follows Dharmic rites 3) truthful 4) person with a wide perspective 5) person with firm devotion 6) person who has control over the sense 7) person who sincerely follows disciplines 8) Person who does not abandon a friend at the time of crisis.  Oh! Rajan, it is difficult to achieve perfect control over sense, it is equivalent to death. If the Indhriyas goes out of control, it would bring complete destruction; even the deities have met their destiny in it.  Oh! Rajan, the qualities like 1) pleasant nature 2) free from jealous 3) Kshama/endurance 4) enthusiasm 5) respect to friends and people around would increase the life span of a person.  Oh! Rajan, Sathpurusha/virtuous/noble people would definitely strive hard to achieve the lost glories in a fair manner, it is their vow too.”

Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath – Chapter -  7- 1

Chapter – 1 - The conversation between Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 1 – 20

Dhritarashtra speaks “Oh! Vidura, the Jeevas are under the control of Vidhatha, like the puppet connected to the wire, therefore it is impossible for the Jeeva to take control of the auspiciousness or troubled times. Oh! Vidura, I am listening all that you speak, therefore continue your nectar-like speeches.”

Vidura speaks “Oh! Rajan, the advice given in the inappropriate times would remain unheard, even if it was advised by the Sage Bhrihaspathi.  Hence, time plays important role in human lives, if the advice received in inappropriate times from Sage Bhrihaspathi would be considered as unimportant as it was received from the ordinary person, eventually it is ignored. Oh! Rajan, a person becomes beloved of all and remains well respected with his performance of charities, pleasant talks, and knowledge in Shashthra and scriptures. Some people with the innate qualities of kindness and compassion and virtues become favorites of all. Oh! Rajan, a person who is hated by all won’t be considered as a follower of Dharma, intellect, or scholar. It is natural that the hated person is considered as an inauspicious and beloved person is auspicious. Oh! Rajan, the destruction is not that the hard-earned money invested in a task which leads to future prospects; the real destruction is wealth earned by immoral means which would bring the definite ruin of people as well as wealth. Oh! Dhritarashtra, some people attain fame by their virtues, some may achieve fame by wealth.  The people who have possessed immense wealth and lacks virtues should be abandoned for good.”

Dhritarashtra speaks “Oh! Thatha, you have spoken all those true facts which were highly recommended by the intellectuals and scholars, I am not able to abandon my sons, but one thing is definite where there is Dharma, the victory will be there.”

Vidura speaks “Oh! Rajan, virtuous, noble, and good-natured people never undergo afflictions. Oh! Rajan, people who talk unpleasantly about others in their absence, spread rumors, perform tasks which create grief in others, or speak harsh words that hurt others, are considered inauspicious, living with these kinds of people would bring constant trepidations. Hence, receiving and giving alms to these kinds of people would bring huge sin. These kinds of people are sinners, these people should be abandoned, and living with these kinds of immoral people would bring disrespect, sin, and fear. Oh! Rajan, people are good while they keep a fair relationship with you, once it is over they forget the favors and turn against you. It is natural that once, the friendship ends, the wicked people begin to talk ill about you, these people do not get peace and remain losers forever. Therefore, intellectuals abandon these kinds of people and their friendship. Oh! Rajan, a person who protects the relatives who are distressed, and suffering from poverty and ailments would achieve all the auspiciousness and happiness, they achieve endless fame, and lives a good life with children and cows. Oh! Rajan, a person who desires for the welfare of the family should help the relatives in crisis, Oh! Rajan, therefore you strive hard to protect the Pandavas who are suffering from lack of livelihood, it would bring welfare to your clan. Oh! Rajan, if you protect your relatives and sons of Pandu, you would achieve all the auspiciousness and welfare.  Even though your relatives are lack of virtues, should be protected. Pandavas are the essence of Dharma, do not leave them penniless. I need not explain the virtues and auspiciousness of the Panduputhra, they are the essence of virtues, and they always seek the welfare of you. I need not tell you how you should protect them at this juncture. Oh! Rajan, therefore, shower your kindness to Pandavas who are struggling to come up in life, you can provide them a few villages as a means for the living; it would bring fame to you. Oh! Rajan, you are the senior member of the Kuru clan, therefore control your sons, I have to talk a lot more favorable things to you, which would bring auspiciousness and welfare to you and your family, I wanted to talk all that promising words to you, I wish the welfare of you and your children.”
