Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, how many times I have cautioned you to leave your pride, jealousy, anger, ego, lust, desire, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, and take shelter at the lotus feet of Sri Nandhanandhan Lord Sri Krishna. Oh! Mortals, all your possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, wife, children, relatives, companion, etc. have fleeting nature, like the dream get disrupted immediately after the person awakes, all of these material matters would leave you one day or you have to leave them, nothing could follow you at the death bed, other the devotion at the lotus feet of Sri Nandhanandhan. Oh! Mortals, you have been hurling yourself in the repeated cycles of death and birth for so long, repeatedly shackled by Karma, you should be ashamed of it, listen to me carefully, you have no way to release yourself from the grief and sufferings of worldly existence/Thapathraya, and  repeated births, without the practice of devotion, singing in praise of Lord Syamsundhar.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, the life span is too short and uncertain, like the water bubbles, there is no specific time to leave the vital air/Prana/soul from the body, it may leave the body anytime, and the noose of death is a constant companion of all living and non-living things, hence leave your interest in worldly matters of possession, richness, wealth, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. abandon your lust, ego, desire, anger, jealousy, pride, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, and contemplate and meditate upon Lord  Sri Govinda. Oh! Mortals, the body is perishable, undergoes constant transformation, it becomes worthless in the absence of vital air/Prana/soul in it, and even the dogs and crows won’t find taste in it. If you do not believe in my words, read the scriptures and sacred texts that repeatedly speak about the ‘Karma’, all the living and non-livings are shackled by Karma, and the destiny is so powerful and unconquerable as well. Oh! Mortals, destiny is pre-written, it is irreversible. The Karma of the several births disperses the fruits of good and evil. Oh! Ignorant, this is not your first birth, you have been into the various Yonis/wombs of birds, animals, reptiles, humans, etc.  Oh! Mortals, do not wait too long to practice devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, the later years of age are miserable, and the ten sensory organs will shut down their functioning before that you take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, that would remove the sins of the present life, and the accumulated sins of several births too.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, leave interest in worldly matters of fleeting nature and contemplate and meditate upon supreme Lord Sri Govind, sing in praise of him in the remaining days of your life. Oh! Ignorant, the seconds spend without remembering the compassionate Lord Sri Hari is the most inauspicious and unfruitful in your life. Oh! Brother, the later years of age are miserable with illnesses, fear of death, and grief of separation from the beloved ones. During the old age, the mind and movements of the body become sluggish, limbs will not co-operate with the mind, it becomes fragile and motionless, you need the help of someone to perform the daily routine, and the sensory organs won’t work like the olden days, the audacity becomes dull, the airways get disrupted with air and water, eyesight become poor. Oh! Ignorant, after achieving the rarest birth as a human, don’t you want to achieve fruitfulness of it? Therefore, before it gets late, do not wait too long to take up austerities, practice vow, celibacy, Swadhyaya, Sathyam, Dhaya, Dhanam, Shamam, Dhamam, Astheyam, Ahimsa, Arjjavam, etc. and contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortals, do not take pride in lovely bodily appearance, youthfulness, clan, wealth, fame, richness, money, family, possession, etc. it is perishable, it is mere illusion like the dream gets disrupted immediately the person awake. The ignorant drenched in the Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, would not understand the arrival of the noose of death, Oh! Manushya, how could you dig a well for water, when your house is on the fire? Likewise, how can you take up the austerities or remember the sacred names of the Lord when the noose of death falls on your neck? Oh! Mortals, abandon your interest in worldly matters of possession, money, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. and surrender at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, and get rid of sufferings of worldly existence and repeated births.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, get rid of the impurities of the mind such as ego, pride, jealousy, lust, desire, anger, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, then surrender at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. The grave sins committed by lust and desire would bring severe punishment in the abode of Yama/death. Oh! Mortals, surrender at the lotus feet of all-pervasive supreme Bhramam Lord Sri Hari, he is Sacchidhanandhaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam reside as a soul in the Jeeva is pure, eternal bliss, unblemished, free from dualities of happiness and sorrow, good and evil, honor and disgrace, it has neither birth nor death. The Supreme Lord Sri Hari is the protector of the Universe and its living and non-living things, reside as a soul in you, he is the source of functioning of the mind, intellect, Chiththa, Ahamkara, Karma, and Gnanendhriyas, Panchaprana, etc. Oh! Mortals, I shall recommend you the most superior method to get rid of the Thapathraya/three kinds of grief and repeated cycles of birth, contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sri Hari with intense faith and devotion, it would provide eight kinds of supernatural powers while living on the Earth, and the supreme Lord Shyamsundhar would ease all the troubles while leaving the mortal coil.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortal, would you lose anything in reciting the Bhagavanama/sacred names of the Lord? You have achieved the rarest birth as a human after several births of pieties, do not leave it carelessly, you have no idea when you will achieve the birth as a human again like the fallen leaves cannot be refixed on the tree.  The objectives of human life are to practice devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and get rid of Thapathraya and repeated births. Oh! Mandhdhabudhdhi/dull-minded, the final moment of death is miserable, the three significant elements in the body, Vatha/space and air, Kapha/earth and water, and Piththa/fire and water would block your airways, it would take away the voice completely, even if you struggle hard to speak, only the air would come out, and while your parents watching you struggling, the noose of death would take away your vital air/Prana. The Bhramanda/ Universe and its living and non-living things undergo Pralaya/deluge several times; hence the birth and death of humans are insignificant. Oh! Mortals, the attachment to worldly matters of infinite sound, touch, passion, appearance, and smell is like a parrot that takes a nip of Semar fruit/sticky and tasteless, and later it works hard to get rid of the gluey thing from its beak. Oh! Mortals, the attachment to worldly matters of richness, possession, money, wealth, fame, children, companion, wife, relatives, etc. are like the ‘Semar fruit’ of gluey and tasteless, that has the fleeting nature and the attachment will go on until the noose of death hurls on your neck. Oh! Jeeva, during this satirical journey of life, why don’t you take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari? why don’t you fall in love with the compassionate Lord Sri Hari? Oh! Mortals, do not take pride in your body, it is perishable, it undergoes transformation on each and every second which is beyond our control, hence investing time in redecorating it is a worthless act.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, abandon your interest in worldly matters and contemplate and meditate upon Lord Govind by word, mind, and deed. Oh! Ignorant, the supreme Lord Sri Hari resides as a soul in the Jeeva is Karunamaya/kind, and Dheenabandhu/savior of distressed souls, hence practice pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, meditate upon him and achieve the serenity of mind. Oh! Jeeva, leave your Ahamkara, Mamakara, ego, lust, desire, jealousy, pride, and anger, do not waste your precious life engaging in pointless debate, and get rid of the impurities of the mind by undertaking austerities, vows, celibacy, Swadhyaya, Sathyam, Dhaya, Shamam, Dhamam, Dhanam, Astheyam, Arjjavam, etc. The all-pervasive supreme Lord Sri Hari resides as the soul is eternal bliss, pure, unblemished, and free from dualities, he is the source of welfare and happiness. The attachment to material matters of possession, richness, wealth, fame, money, children, companion, relatives, etc. could not provide permanent bliss, it is perishable, and it may leave you anytime hurling you in constant miseries and grief. The Veda and scriptures emphasize the Narahari Roopa/half lion-half man incarnation of Lord Sri Hari protect his child devotee Prahladha can liberate even the grave sinner. Oh! Mortals, singing in praise of endless glories of Lord Sri Hari, listening and reading his glorious legends, would drive away from the accumulated sins of several births, there is no wealth superior to the devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, he is extremely kind and compassionate to his devotees, he is most benevolent, auspicious, and source of eternal bliss. Oh! Mortal, Lord Sri Krishna who is the protector of cowherds and cows, sings in praise of the glorious legends of Dheenadhayal Sri Gopala would melt your heart.  Oh! Ignorant, Bhavasagara, the unfathomable ocean of worldly existence is extremely dangerous and horrific with wild aquatic animals resembles the sufferings and grief which is mounting like the fast-moving dark clouds in the sky, that would crush the Jeeva from four sides. Oh! Mortal, Lord Sri Hari is the only one who would protect you at the death bed when the noose of Yama/death falls around your neck. Oh! Ignorant, abandon your chase for material and physical pleasures, remember that you are surrounded by the colossal fame-like noose of death from four sides. One day, the Kalaroopi/death form of the serpent would swallow you deliberately, before that take shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and get rid of Thapathraya and repeated cycles of birth.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mind, fall in love with the constant recitation of ‘Sri Ramanama’, it would protect you from the Thapathraya/three kinds of grief 1) grief caused by epidemic, earthquake, flood, famine, drought, woodfire, etc. 2) grief caused by the loss of possession, wealth, richness, fame, money, children, wife, relatives, companion, etc. 3) grief caused by aging, illnesses, fear of death, separation from beloved ones, etc.  The Sri Ramanama would protect you from the grief and sufferings of worldly existence like the fence protects the crops from impostors.  Oh! Mind, the mind like a parrot locked up in your body always seeks the Vishayaroopivisha/toxic poison like the interest in worldly matters of diversified nature, hence keep it under good control, don’t let it wander around seeking material and physical pleasure, otherwise, it would get caught by the Mrithyuroopi /death like cat anytime. Oh! Mind, leave your interest in worldly matters, Ahamkara, Mamakara, lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride, anger, etc. and take great pleasure in the Bhagavannamaroopi Sethu/ocean-like pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, thereby cross the unfathomable ocean of worldly existence. Oh! Mortals, as a preceptor I permit you to take shelter in the Sri Govindhanama, sing in praise of the glorious legends of Lord Sri Hari, contemplate and meditate upon him.”
