Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The knowledge of self – The supreme Brahmam resides as a soul is an eternal bliss, hence the happiness is within you, not in the outside world

Chapter – 279-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The knowledge of self  - The supreme Brahmam resides as a soul is an eternal bliss, hence the happiness is within you, not in the outside world

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, I have sincerely listened to my preceptors and Sadhguru, eventually, experienced that supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in me, and I have experienced that supreme bliss resides in my heart. I was wandering aimlessly like the musk deer chasing after the fragrances without the knowledge of the rich fragrant stored in its navel, I was chasing after the worldly matters of infinite sounds, appearances, smell, passion, and touch for happiness and serenity, alas! I did not achieve any happiness or satisfaction from it, instead, I was pushing myself into constant grief and trouble. I took shelter at the lotus feet of Sathguru/preceptor and sincerely followed them, finally, I have found that supreme bliss resides as a soul in my body. Oh! Prabho, for a moment, I was like that princess who was devastated at the missing of gem decorated necklace around her neck, eventually, her servants affirmed that the necklace is safe on her neck, which reduced the trepidation in princes. Oh! Prabho, I was like the mother who dreamt of her child lost in the crowd, immediately she got out of sleep and found her child sleeping beside her peacefully. Oh! Prabho, I was drenched in illusion and got attached to the worldly matters of possession, wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion, and relatives, of fleeting nature that pushed me into three kinds of grief, my constant chase for material and physical pleasure drove me afar from the supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the middle of my heart. The moment I realized that the supreme Bhramam is eternal bliss that resides in my body, not in the outside world, my chase for the material and physical pleasures disappeared, and I was transported to the world of sheer ecstasy which is beyond description but can be experienced, like the person lacking speech ate the jaggery, fails to describe its sweetness.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – ‘Bhrama Sathyam Jagath Mithya’ – The Maya/illusion of the supreme Bhramam is inseparable from the Jeeva, but the supreme Bhramam is free from the illusion

Chapter – 278-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – ‘Bhrama Sathyam Jagath Mithya’ – The  Maya/illusion is inseparable from the Jeeva, but the supreme Bhramam is free from the illusion

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “ Lord Sriman Narayan describes the Chathusloki Bhagavath/the glorious scripture Srimad Bhagavath in four verses to Lord Bhrama  “Oh! Bhrama, there was nothing at the beginning of this Universe, I was the only one who existed, listen to me carefully, the supreme Bhramam is pure, free from dualities, eternal, unblemished, primeval, bliss, etc. Oh! Bhrama, I am that supreme Bhramam indivisible, yet visible in the infinite matters of this Universe. The infinite worldly matters comprise of Sathvik/nobility, Rajasik/demonic, and Thamasik/dullness, hence if these three attributes disappear, there will be only ‘Me’/supreme Bhramam that remains. I am that supreme Bhramam/Paramathma, and it is my unconquerable Maya/illusion that persuades the Jeeva to experience all the worldly matters of infinite sound, appearance, touch, smell, and passion are ‘Real’, in fact, there is nothing real in this Universe. It is my Maya/illusion that makes to believe the Jeeva the eclipse occurs, I am impenetrable, free from all the illusions. The Universe was created out of the Panchathaththva/five essential matters such as Air, Earth, Water, Space, and fire, and all the living and non-living things formed out of these Panchathaththva is an illusion, even though it reflects as the mirror image/Paramathma is Jeevathma. I am that all-pervasive supreme Bhramam free from illusion, and free from the three attributes, I am the creator preserver, and destroyer of the Universe, as well. Oh! Bhrama, my Maya/illusion is inseparable from the Jeeva, like the vital air/Prana in the body. The fish cannot live without water, but the water can exist without fish, in this way, the Jeeva is dependent on the Maya, and Maya is not dependent on the Jeeva. This magnificent nature of the all-pervasive supreme Bhramam is eulogized as ‘Nethi Nethi’ /incomparable/Na: Ithi, Na: Ithi, by the illustrious Sage Sanakadhis.” Oh! Mortals, so it is essential to have 1) Jjan/supreme wisdom/the knowledge of absolute truth/knowledge of self / 2) Vijjan/practical knowledge/all the material matters are destructible, finally the Jeeva achieves the pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortals, the all-pervasive supreme Bhramam personified as Lord Sri Hari/Sagunaswaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam, therefore contemplate and meditate upon that Sacchidhanandha Swaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam to achieve the fruitfulness of life.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The human body is nothing other than a bundle of flesh, blood, bone, urine, and excreta

Chapter – 277-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The human body is nothing other than a bundle of flesh, blood, bone, urine, and excreta

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, the body, and the mind experience the greatest pleasure when you abandon the chase for pleasing the senses. The chase for material and physical pleasures compels Jeeva to commit various sins, such as taking away the wealth of others on immoral grounds, and the urge for physical pleasure persuades them to sleep with strange women, etc. constantly pushes the Jeeva into extreme grief and agony. The unfortunate Jeeva do not listen to the advice of Sathpurusha, Santh, Mahathma, or do not pay attention to the Shastra/scriptures that strongly oppose the immoral deeds, and ultimately these Jeevas would end up in terrible death, and shovel themselves into the hell of Lord Yama. The unfortunate Jeeva gets attracted to the outward appearance of the woman, without the knowledge that her bosom is nothing other than flesh and blood, and the body is a bundle of flesh, blood, skin, skeleton, excreta, urine, etc., eventually, destroy their youth as well as wealth. Oh! Mortals, if you want to achieve fruitfulness of life, leave your interest in strange women, and undertake meditation and contemplation upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari and sing in praise of him.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The youth, beautiful appearance, possession, wealth, fame, richness, etc. are like the clouds in the sky, it has fleeting nature

Chapter – 276-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The youth, beautiful appearance, possession, wealth, fame, richness, etc. are like the clouds in the sky, it has fleeting nature

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, do not take pride in your body, wealth, possession, and clan, which are impermanent. The demon Hiranyakashipu took great pride in his mightiness, undertook extreme penance, and achieved unique boons from Lord Bhrama, finally, he met terrible death at the hands of Nrisimha. The demon Kamsa was notorious, he imprisoned his own sister Devi Devaki and her husband Vasudeva at the divine instruction that the eighth child of Devi Devaki would take away his life, and he killed their children immediately after birth. Kamsa was in constant fear of death, he sent several demons to kill the eighth child of Devi Devaki, but Lord Krishna killed all those demons with the might of his hands.  Lord Bhrama, deities, and Indra were proud of their glories, but they all had to feel guilty later. Oh! Mortals, listen to me carefully, the youthful state, beautiful appearance, possession, wealth, fame, richness, etc. are like the clouds in the sky, it has fleeting nature. Therefore, leave your pride and arrogance, sing in praise of Lord Sri Hari, and always remember that the people who have taken great pride met terrible deaths.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The ignorant take pride in beauty and wealth, etc. that are impermanent

Chapter – 276-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The ignorant take pride in physical appearance and wealth, etc. that are impermanent

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, every day cannot be the same, the human body undergoes constant transformation and ruin, as long as you are healthy and enthusiastic, take up the austerities, vows, celibacy, Swadhyaya, Shama, Dhama, Sathyam, Dhaya, Dhanam Dhyanam, Arjjavam, Astheyam, etc. and sing in praise of Lord Sri Hari, worship at his lotus feet with pure love and devotion. The unfortunates are the ones who spent their whole life chasing after wealth, money, possession, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. of fleeting nature, and wasted the three important phases of life /childhood, adulthood, and youth, pleasing their senses. The ignorant are the ones who take great pleasure in their wealth, possession, fame, and clan, drive away pious people with excessive haughtiness, the poverty drives humans to chase after money to wave off hunger, and the handsome youthful phase forces the human to take pride in outward appearance that too for a short period of time. The ignorant waste their whole life on appeasing senses, and the people around them, or entering constant conflicts and arguments, without undertaking Japa, Yoga, vows, austerities, truthfulness, Swadhyaya, Shamadhamadhi, meditation, contemplation, and worship of Lord Sri Hari. Finally, in the later years of age, the limbs become fragile and weak, the senses won’t function like before, movements get restricted, limbs won’t cooperate with the mind, loneliness, and fear of death would be constant companions. Oh! Mortals, do not take pride in your physical appearance and wealth, both are impermanent, hence, leave your interest in worldly matters, practice the recitation of ‘Sri Ramanama’ and sing in praise of Lord Sri Hari, and strive for the serenity of mind.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – Who is fortunate? The time spend in the association of Santh, Mahathma, and Sathpurusha would destroy the Karmavasana

Chapter – 275-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – Who is fortunate? The time spend in the association of Santh, Mahathma, and Sathpurusha would destroy the Karmavasana

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, a Grihasthashrami/married man, achieves an abundance of piousness when the house is purified by the presence of Santh, Mahathma, and Sathpurusha, and merely serving and witnessing those noble people the Grihastha would achieve the piousness of holy dip in the crores of sacred rivers. The fortunate are the Grihastha who sincerely follow their preceptors, Mahathma and Sathpurusha, and conduct meditation and contemplation at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari, thereby getting rid of the impurities of mind such as lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride, anger, Ahamkara, and Mamakara. These Grihasthas persuade others to take part in singing in praise of the Lord and worship, in this way, they not only strive to achieve Purusharththa in their lives but also encourage more people to achieve the fruit of piousness. The times spend wisely singing in praise of the Lord, and worship would keep them free from futile debate, arguments, conflicts, and troubles as well, eventually, get rid of the Karmabandha of several births, and get rid of the impurities of the mind too. Oh! Mortals, whoever has taken shelter at the lotus feet of Santh, Mahathma, noble souls/saintly men, would get rid of the sufferings and grief of worldly existence, they drive away the attachment to worldly matters of infinite sounds, smell, touch, passion, and appearances at ease, ultimately from the three kinds of griefs. Oh! Mortals, do not waste the precious birth as humans, take shelter at the lotus feet of Santh, Mahathma, and Sathpurusha/saintly, who have abandoned worldly matters like Trina/grass, and relentlessly contemplate and meditate upon the lotus feet of the Lord Sri Hari.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – Why should we worship Lord Sri Hari? The all-pervasive supreme Bhramam is permanent bliss

Chapter – 274-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The all-pervasive supreme Bhramam is permanent bliss

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, why should we worship Lord Sri Hari? All the Earth’s creatures are bound by Time and Karma.  All living and non-living things undergo constant transformation and ruin, and the material matters of infinite sounds, touches, passions, appearance, smells, happiness and sorrow, wealth and poverty, etc. The trees and plants bear fruits and flowers in a particular season, and get dried in another, the rivers flood during the rainy season, and get dried in summer, the moon on the full moon day and Amavasya are the absolute truth ‘All the material matters are impermanent’. The all-pervasive supreme Bhramam resides as a soul that is primeval, bliss, unblemished, eternal, pure, free from dualities/grief and joy, happiness and sorrow, gain and loss, etc.  Oh! Mortals, it is wise to worship that Sacchidhanandha Paramathma Parambhramam/Sath-eternal, Chith-pure, Anandha-bliss/ to achieve the permanent bliss,  and get freed from the sufferings and grief of worldly existence and repeated births.”
