Shiva Gitimala was composed by Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi ( 62nd Seer of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peedam), it consists of 20 enthralling verses known as Ashtapadi praising the pleasurable moments of Lord Ekamreshwarar and Goddess Sri Kamakshi.  This beautiful composition portraits the desperation, devotion and dedication, of individual soul/Jeevathma, attain union with the Supreme soul/Paramathma in order to achieve eternal bliss.  Shiva Ashtapadi/Shiva Gitimala begins with the veneration of Lord Ganesha.  The entire verses illustrate the miserable state of separation of Goddess Parvathi from Lord Shiva.  Goddess Sri Parvati underwent severe penance on the river banks of Kampa in order to unite with the Lord Shiva.  The divine couple undergoes unbearable pain of separation; Lord Shiva came down to Earth and resides under a mango tree where Goddess Sri Parvati undertakes penance was observed by faithful companion of Goddess and was duly informed.  The state of remorseful, desertion, guilt and the messages exchanged through the companion of Godess Sri Parvati etc.. are beautifully depicted in the Ashtapadi.  Ultimately Lord Shiva appears before Goddess Sri Parvati and apologizes profusely, after an initial harshness between the couple and blissfully unites.

In this verse Sri Chandrasekharendra Yathi describes the delusion of Goddess Sri Parvati out of extreme pain of separation from Lord Shiva.  She believes that Lord Shiva is having pleasurable time with a virtuous young maiden who is equally suffering from the pangs of separation from her devotee due to the cupid flower arrows of Lord Manmatha.   The charming young maiden has raised bosom and stunning physical features with alluring fragrances and gem studded necklace on her chest, her devotee playing on her thin waist with amorous sport.  Her beautiful lips covered with nectar are passionately swallowed by her enthusiast; her attire from hip is misplaced due to their amorous sport on the soft bed of flowers, her eyes are half closed immersed in the sport, she is finding immense pleasure in their sport and remains tightly embraced, passionately falls on the glorious broad chest of her devotee and the quiver of flowers on her beautiful curly long hair doubled her happiness.  Goddess Sri Parvati inquires moon about the partiality of its radiant rays to the pleasing couple of Chakora birds and the women who lives in the heaven enjoys the presence of their enthusiast.  She complains the unkind attitude of moon towards her while she was experiencing the pangs of separation from her consort.  Further, Goddess Sri Parvati impatiently waiting for her consort to be back in her hermitage, she is in utter delusion thinks that Lord Shiva who has Goddess Ganga on matted hair locks taking pleasure in the amorous sport with the young maiden who bears the sweet scent of the pollen of flowers, Goddess Sri Parvati expecting him to be back with the smear of her vermillion powder all over him.  The gentle breeze and cool rays of moon torturing Goddess Sri Parvati, she blames the associates of Lord and messenger of demons that has horrific form has created the dilemma.

The above verse of Sri Chandrasekhara Yathi provides perpetual happiness to the virtuous.
