Sri Mahadeva Sthuthi by son of Sage Angirass – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Victory to Lord Shankara who has the luster of moon, he is the personification of serenity and supreme brilliance, he fulfills all the desires of his passionate devotees and gracefully accepted the hospitality of Shuchidhaththa, he is the destroyer of grief and sorrows of passionate devotees.  Victory to Lord Shankara who dwells in sky like hearts of virtuous people, he destroys the forest like heap of sins of his devotees with the colossal wood fire, he have various incarnations and myths, he is charismatic, he  effortlessly destroyed the cupid flower arrows Lord Kamadeva.  Victory to Lord Shankara who eradicates untimely death of his ardent devotees and fulfills their desires, he is decked in venomous serpents as ornaments,  gracefully offered left half of his body to Goddess Sri Parvathi, he is omnipresent.  Victory to Lord Shankara, who is the representation of three worlds, he is compassionate to all the living beings, he accepts oblations from the fire sacrifices, he is the commander of Bhoothaganas, he is the safe haven for the people who are besieged with extreme distress.  Victory to Lord Shankara, I shall prostrate before the magnificent form of  supreme Lord Shiva with his consort Goddess Sri Parvathi/Girirajakumari,  he is omnipresent, he is the symbol of ‘Om” /Pranavadhvani, he is decked in crescent moon.  Oh! Shiva, Oh! Deva, Oh! Mahesha, Oh! Gireesha , Oh! Vibho,  Oh! Vibhavapradha/provider of auspiciousness, who is decked in crescent moon, he destroys the wicked people who create impediments to Bhakthi and worship of Lord; I shall earnestly pray to shower your auspicious grace on three worlds.  I shall prostrate before the lotus feet of supreme Lord Shiva, I am not aware of anything other than to prostrate before your lotus feet, I am not scared of Lord Yama, kindly destroy my sins and I shall always prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, veneration of supreme Lord Shiva/Shivapooja is considered as superior method of worship and highly propitious in this world.  Therefore, I shall venerate supreme Lord Shiva who is beyond Thrigunas, decked in king of serpents as ornaments and he is Pralayakalagni/colossal fire at the time of deluge.

Thus concludes the Mahadevasthuthi by son of Sage Angirass, Lord Mahadeva was pleased at his devotion and offered various boons to him.
