Sage Agasthya speaks “ Oh!
Skandha, the birth of human becomes futile without the dip in the sacred waters
of Ganga, therefore is there any alternative method available to obtain the
pieties of dip in the sacred river Ganga?
How people who are weak, disabled, weary, living in far off places would
attain the pieties of dip in the sacred waters of Ganga? Oh! Skandha, kindly
enlighten me with the knowledge that is feasible which could obtain the benefit
of dip in the sacred river Ganga, Is it
possible to obtain the merits by performing charity, undertaking strict
austerities, reciting sacred hymns, veneration of deity, or dip in any of the
sacred rivers. Oh! Skandha who is born
in the womb of Ganga, you are well capable to narrate the splendor of sacred
Ganga originated from the celestial abode.”
Skandha replied “ Oh! illustrious Sage,
there are numerous sacred rivers located in various places, people finds it is
pacifying with its merits though it has not even ten millionth part of the
benefit of sacred Ganga, Oh!
Kalashothbhava, prominent river Ganga is held on the matted hair locks of Lord
Shambhu, who is the Lord of Lords. It is
customary to recite the sacred hymns of Jahnavi while oblation and it is highly
propitious that wash away the sins while taking holy dip in other sacred waters. Oh! Bhramin, benefits of holy dip in Ganga is
definitely available from the sacred waters of Ganga only, just like the grape has the ability to give
grape wine and nothing else would compensate its taste.”
