Sri Rudra Kavacha Sthothram by Sage Durvasa – Lyrics and meanings

Sri Rudrakavacham/armor of Lord Rudra is a sacred hymn which was composed by Rishi Durvasa, it has Anushtup as its meter, praising the glories of Thrayambaka Rudra, it has Om as Beejam, Hreem as Shakthi, Kleem as Keelakam, and it is recited to get all the desires fulfilled.


I shall prostrate before the Lord of Goddess Parvathi, who has serene looks, seated on Padmasana /throne of Lotus flower, he is decked in marvelous crown decorated with crescent moon, he has five faces and he has three eyes, he is wielded in trident, Vajrayudha, Gadgam, Pashupathasthram, and one hand in  Abhaya hastha posture, he carries Nagam, Pasham, Gandam, Damaru, and one hand in Varadhahastha posture, and Goddess Ambika on his left, he is decked in various precious ornaments, crystal and gem studded garlands.


Rishi Durvasa speaks “ I shall bow my head down to supreme  Lord Parameshvara who is self manifested/he has no birth, he represents all the deities.  I shall narrate the sacred armor of Lord Rudra that protects soul and limbs at all times, which was created for the protection of deities.  Let my eyes remain protected by Lord Thrayambaka/who has three eyes, let my face remain protected by Maheshvara/Lord of the Universe, let my ears remain protected by  Shambhu/benevolent, let my nose remain protected by  Sadashiva/eternal bliss, let my front parts of the body remain protected by  Rudra/fierce form of Lord Shiva, let my proximity remain protected by Lord Hara/destroyer of sins, let my head remain protected by Eshvara/Mighty, let my forehead remain protected by Neelalohitha/dark blue-red complexioned, let my tongue remain protected by Vageesha/Lord of speech, let my lips remain protected by Ambikapathi/consort of Ambika, let my neck remain protected by  Srikanda/beautiful throated,  let my arms remain protected by Pinakadhari/wielded in weapon Pinaka, let my heart remain protected by Mahadeva/supreme deity,  let my chest remain protected by  Eshvara,  Let my navel, waist and chest remain protected by  Umapthi/consort of Uma, let my arm, middle and inner parts of my body remain protected by subtle form of Lord Sadashiva, let my voice and all body parts remain protected by Sarvesha/supreme being.  Thrideshvara  who is wielded in  Vajrayudham, Shakthi, Pasham, Angusham, Gandam and Shoolam, protects me from all directions, Lord Virupaksha/unique eyes, protects people who reads or listens to these glorious verses during the hours of journey, or sitting under sacred trees, or sitting on the sacred river banks, or during the hours of dusk, or sitting in the palace.  Lord  Vrushadhvaja/virtuous,  protects us during the unbearable and extreme climatic weather conditions during winter and summer seasons, dense woods and difficult path ways.  The above are the sacred hymns of armor of Lord Rudra is pure and capable to destroy all kinds of sins, it was recited by Rishi Durvasa in order to please Lord Mahadeva.  Therefore the recitation of above sacred verses eradicates all kinds of fears; it provides superior health, abundance of pieties and long life.  Vidhyarthi/students who yearn for intellect would attain supreme knowledge, Dhanarthi/people who desire for wealth would be blessed with abundance of wealth, Kanyarthi/person who earn for perfect companion would attain the same, and the worshiper will remain fearless.  The childless couple would be blessed with virtuous offspring, people who yearn for Moksha/liberation from repeated births would be benefited with the same,  Oh! Mahadeva, kindly protect us, Oh! Thrayimaya/essence of Veda, kindly protect us.  Oh! Parvathinatha/consort of Goddess Parvathi, Kindly protects us, Oh! Thripuranthaka/destroyer of cities of Thripura, kindly protects us. Oh! Rudra who is wielded in  Pasham, Gadgam and various divine weapons and trident, kindly protect us.  Oh! Jagadheeshvara/Lord of the Universe, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord of Lords, kindly protect us from the middle of enemies, society, and village and inside our homes as well.  Oh! Bhakthavathsala/beloved of devotees, kindly protects us from all walks of life, and remains in our intellect, hearts, and mind.  Kindly reside in our hearts, deeds and intellect, and eradicate the fear of fever and all kinds of fevers, kindly remove the evil effects caused by the changes in planetary position.  Kindly protect us from our enemies, kindly protect us from all kinds of illnesses, ultimately the worshiper would attain the abode of Lord Rudra.
