Sri Ramaraksha Sthothram – Padmapuranam – Lyrics and meanings

The following are the highly propitious hymns praising the splendor of Lord Hari who is most favourable to his passionate devotees, whoever read or recite with intense devotion or Dasyabhava / as a sincere servant, before the supreme Lord Hari.   It has the kind of meter as Sahasranama, which is capable to eradicate all kinds of sins.



Sri Mahadeva speaks “ Oh! Devi, carefully listen to the grandeur of Keshava, virtuous people /man who listens to it would attain abundance of meritorious reward and become the symbol of pieties, Sri Ramaraksha Sthothram was composed by Maharishi Vishvamithra, praising the glories of Sri Rama, it has Anushtup as Chandhass, it is recited to please Lord Vishnu.  I shall meditate upon Lord Vishnu who is imperishable personified as Sri Rama,  his eyes has the resemblance to lotus flower petals, he is decked in garlands made of fresh alluring flowers, he is attired in majestic yellow garment, I shall earnestly pray Lord Rama to protect my heart, kindly protect my throat by Srikanda who has beautiful throat, kindly protect my Nabhi/navel by Makhathratha who is the protector of fire sacrifice of Maharishi Vishvamithra, kindly protect my waistline by Vishvarakshaka who is the protector of Universe and its living beings, kindly protect my hands by Dhasharathi/descendent of Dhasharatha, kindly protect my feet by Vishvaroopadhrik who is embodied as Universe, kindly protect  my eyes by the divine personified as Seethapathi/consort of Goddess Seetha, kindly protect my tuft  by Vishvathma who dwells as Athman in the Universe, kindly protect my ears by Kamadha/who fulfils all the desires of worshiper, kindly protect my proximities by Surathratha who is the protector of Suras, kindly protect us at all times by Dhurasadha who is unparalleled, kindly protect all our body parts by Anantha/eternal and  body by Vishvanayaka who is the commander of Universe, kindly protect our tongue by Papaghna who eradicates all sins of the worshiper and carries out the functions of the Universe, kindly protect our teeth by Raghava who is born in the illustrious clan of Raghu, kindly protect our hair by Keshava who has beautiful curly hair locks, kindly protect us by the supreme Lord who is victorious and source of the Universe, whoever reads or listens to the splendor of Rama would remain blessed with long life, happiness, scholarly skills  and all kinds of auspiciousness,  whoever meditate upon Lord Ramachandhra along with Goddess Vaishnavi who symbolizes auspiciousness, would protect at all times, it was taught by Lord Vishnu who is personified as  the great preceptor Sage Vashishta, it would permanently eradicate all the sins accumulated in various births and liberates from repeated births, later it was taught to the Bhramin by Maharishi Narada and eventually it was pass on to the bhooloka for the virtuous people.  Whoever recites or listens to these glorious verses while sleep or at home or travelling would attain abundance of pieities.
