Sri Saraswathi Ashtakam by Sage Agasthya – Lyrics and meanings

I shall meditate upon supreme Goddess Sri Saraswathi who has the luster Kundha flower and moon, she is attired in majestic white garment, she carries sacred Veena in one hand and other hand in Varadhahastha posture, she is seated on the white lotus flower, and she is always worshiped by Lord Bhrama, Acchyutha, Shankara and all the deities, Oh! Saraswathi, Oh! Bhagavathi, kindly protect us and eradicate our ignorance.  Oh! Suprasanne who has pleasing disposition, Oh! Vagdevathe who is the Goddess of excellence in speech, kindly blesses us with your eternal presence on our face, she holds crystal bead/Askshamala, lotus flower, parrot, sacred scriptures, she has the luster of conch and moon, and she has supreme radiance. Oh! Saraswathi, kindly dance to the tune of our words always, her lotus feet are worshiped by Suras and Asura, she carries sacred scriptures on her hand, she is Virinchipathni/consort of Lord Bhrama, she is seated on the lotus flower. Oh! Saraswathy kindly blesses us with abundance of boons, she has the luster of pollen of lotus flower, she undertakes severe austerities and penances, she is fond to be seated on the fresh alluring lotus  flowers, she has large and high raised bosom, her beautiful eyes has the resemblance to lotus flower petals, she is virtuous who resides in the heart of righteous people, I shall always prostrate before supreme Goddess Saraswathi who represents all the female deities, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is serene, she is decked in crescent moon, she represents Yoga, I shall repeatedly  prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is eternal bliss, she doesnot require any support system, she is pure, she represents supreme wisdom and knowledge, she has beautiful wide eyes, she represents pure intellect, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who has the luster of pure crystal, she has subtle form, she represents Shabdhabhrama/phonetics, she has four hands, she is the provider of all kinds of supernatural powers, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi, who is decked in pearl decorated ornaments all over her body, she is supreme Goddess, she represents sacred syllables, she is supreme force, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi, she is Vageeshvari who is the Goddess of speech, she is Manonmani, she represents wealth, she is the provider of excellence in speech, her hands are in Varadhahastha posture that showers abundance of boons, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who represents Veda and Vedanga, she is the essence of Veda, she is void of properties, she showers abundance of virtues,  I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is omniscient, she is supreme bliss, she is omnipresent, she represents prosperity, she is youthful, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who represents Yoga and Uma as well, she provides immense delight through the practices of Yoga, she is divine personified as supreme wisdom, she has three eyes, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is adorned in crescent moon on her matted hair locks, she has the luster of moon, she is adorned in moon and sun on her matted hair locks, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi  who has subtle, colossal and minuscule forms too, she provides Ashtasiddhis to her worshiper, she is permanent bliss, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who represents wisdom, science and various Shashthras, she has numerous forms too,  I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is lotus born, she was born in the illustrious clan, she represents lotus flowers, she is Parameshti and Paramoorthi as well, she eradicates all the sins of the worshiper, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is divine personified as Mahadevi, Mahakali, and Mahalakshmi, she is absolute Bhramam who is personified as female force of Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, she symbolizes lotus flower and passionate sport, she carries lotus flower on her hand, she is Kapali who enhances the performances of Karma and controls the actions, whoever reads or listens to it during the hours dawn and dusk  for a period of six months would attain super natural powers, worshiper would be relieved from the threat of thieves and tiger/wild animals, above are the glorious verses praising the splendor of Goddess Sri Saraswathi was composed by Sage Agasthya,  it provides Sarvasiddhis and it eradicates all the sins of the worshiper .
