Sri Garuda Ashtoththarashathanama Sthothram – Sri Bhramandapuranam - Lyrics and meanings

Devi speaks “ Oh! Devadeva who is Lord of Lords, Oh! Mahadeva, who is mighty Lord, Oh! Sarvajja who is omniscient, Oh! Karunanidhe who is extremely compassionate, I would like to listen the hundred and eight sacred names of Tharkshya/King of birds/Garuda.”


Eshvara speaks “ Oh! Devi, kindly listens to me carefully, I shall narrate the glorious hundred and eight names of Garuda who is magnanimous, these hundred and eight names praising the splendor of Garuda are highly propitious and capable to eradicate severest sins of the worshiper.”


Eshvara continues “ Sri Garuda Ashtoththarashathanama sthothra is highly propitious hymn was composed by Rishi Bhrama, it has Anushtup as chandhass, presiding deity is Garuda, Pranava as Beejam, Vidhya as Shakthi, Veda as Keelakam, it is recited to please Pakshiraja/King of birds Garuda.”


 I shall meditate upon Pakshiraja/King of birds who eradicates all the toxic poisons, he holds Amrithakalasham/pot of nectar of immortality, he has great radiance, he is worshiped by  wise, and learned, he is incomprehensible even for Veda and Shasthras, he has marvelous wings which as the appearance of precious yellow metal, he has the resemblance to fire ball. I shall meditate upon Vainatheya who is son of  Devi Vinatha, he is Gagapathi who explores through the sky, he was born to Sage Kashyapa and  Devi Vinatha, he resembles to fire ball, he is extremely valorous, he has the luster of molten yellow metal, he has beautiful wings, he is celestial vehicle of Lord Hari, he has beautiful appearance, he has great effulgence, he is highly enthusiastic and  powerful, he is Bhramam, he is passionate devotee of Lord Vishnu, he has the luster of  Kundhapushpa and moon, he represents Chakrapani, he is Sreeman who is enemy of Naga/serpent, he is adorned in Naga, he symbolizes supreme wisdom and intellect, peculiar, knowledge and void of impurities, he is the source of happiness and wealth, he is the protector of Universe, he dwells on the Earth, he is beloved of passionate devotees, he has pleasing disposition, he has embodied as celestial vehicle King of birds, he is worshiped by Suras and Asuras as well, he lives in the mound and marsh lands, he is the destroyer of Dhaithyas, he is brother to Aruna, he symbolizes moon, he is immortal, he symbolizes supreme bliss, he is imperishable, he is the essence of Veda, he abstain from food, he represents Sathvik, Rajasik and Thamasik nature, he is beyond comparison, he is Paramjyothiswaroopa, he is Parathpara who is beyond human intellect, he has divine limbs, he is the source of auspiciousness, he is valorous, he has subtle as well as  colossal form , he is enemy of poison-mouthed, he represents learned, wise,  and scholarly, he is perceivable, he is the source of success in endeavors,  he has powerful limbs, he is Jagadheesha, he is  majestic celestial vehicle of Janardhana, he eradicates miseries and sorrows, he is void of Jara and Marana, he is the source of all kinds of auspiciousness, happiness, prosperity and wealth, he has the luster of moon, he is Bhramam/represents Pithru, he remains in the association of Suras, he represents Yajjya and worshiped with fire sacrifices, he has great speed, he is unconquerable, he is celestial vehicle of Lord Vihnu, he is closest companion of Manmatha, he holds Shankha and Chakra, he has immense strength, and extremely valorous,  he holds  vessel of nectar, he has pleasant disposition, he can be formidable to wicked, he is the destroyer of wicked enemies, his limbs resembles to Vajra, he is most promising,  and venerable, he has the speed of wind, he showers abundance of boon on worshiper, he is the delight of Devi Vinatha, he symbolizes wealth and happiness, he is surrounded by the crowd of victorious people, he is Sarvesha who eradicates all the sins of the worshiper, he symbolizes flame, he is surrounded by successful people who produces the sounds of victory, he is the source of delight to Universe, he has powerful nose resembles to Vajra, he has marvelous face, he eradicates epidemic, he crush the pride, arrogance, haughtiness etc.. he symbolizes time, he is beloved of Goddess Kamala, he eradicates evil effects of Kali era, he has the brilliance of lightning, he has marvelous limbs, he protected Devi Vinatha from the slavery of Kadhru, he symbolizes fire sacrifices, Veda, wealth, Gayathri metre,  and Samagana, he is adorned in flower garlands, he has the speed of wind, he moves independently according to his will.  These are the glorious and highly confidential verses praising the splendor of Garuda who is magnanimous, these are most propitious hymns capable to eradicate all the sins of worshiper, and has the purifying effect, this highly auspicious hymn should be  recited along with the worship of Lord Vishnu.”
