Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath – Chapter
- 5 - 3
Chapter – 3 - The conversation between
Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 41 – 60
Vidura speaks “Oh! Rajan, listen to me
carefully, Dharththarashtra/Kauravas are dense forest, and the Pandavas are the
bear in the dense wood. Hence, do not make an effort to destroy the entire wood
along with the bear, or do not try to sweep away the bear from the dense wood,
it is an impossible task. The bears/wild animals are essential for the
existence of the forest, vice versa and they protect each other. Oh! The wicked
and sinful people always lookout for the bad in others; will not take interest
in knowing the good in them. Oh! Rajan, the people who sincerely wish success
in all endeavors should strictly follow the Dharma. It is impossible to
separate the nectar from heaven; in the same manner, it is difficult to
separate the auspiciousness and success in the endeavors without following the Dharma.
Oh! Rajan, whose mind and intellect is wedged in the welfare of all and free
from sins, he/she understands the nature of Prakrithi/destructible and
Athman/indestructible. Oh! Rajan, the person who sincerely follows Dharma,
Arththa, and Kama while living on the Earth would attain the fruitfulness of
the same even afterlife on Earth/Paraloka. Oh! Rajan, the person who has
perfect control over the waves of anger and Harsha/happiness which is
uncontrollable, and do not chase after material comforts would attain
auspiciousness in life. Oh! Bharatharshabha, there are five types of strength
in humans 1) Bahubalam/strength of arms which is considered as inferior. 2) The
association with the wise ministers 3) wealth 4) Abhijathabalam/the quality of fearlessness
innate in the person 5) the ‘intelligence’ which is capable to bring all the auspiciousness,
therefore it is considered as superior among all the strength. Oh! Rajan, after
having enmity with the Pandavas who is the essence of courage and prowess, does
not feel that they are away from the Kingdom of Hastinapura, hence your sons
are safe. Oh! Rajan, the noble and wise understands the nature of Sthree/fleeting,
Kings/unpredictable nature, serpents/venomous, the knowledge gained from
preceptor/permanent wealth, living with the enemies/danger, Bhoga/fleeting, and
the life span is unpredictable. Therefore the intelligent people will not take
pride in it or do not believe in it. Oh! Rajan, there is no cure or the
physician for the wound created by the ‘ intelligence’ of a person, even the sacred
chants, sacrificial chants, pious deeds, the Kriya from Adharvaveda or Manthra,
and all those herbal medicines are inefficient to remove the toxic poison cause
by the intelligence. Oh! Rajan, do not ignore these four 1) serpents 2) Agni 3)
lion and 4) Kuleena/born in the illustrious clan, they are highly powerful.
Agni is all-powerful, has supreme brilliance, it is hidden in the woods, even
though it does not take initiative to burn the wood until and unless it was
ignited. Oh! Rajan, the friction of two wooden pieces is capable to burn down
the entire forest, in the same way, the people who have born in the illustrious
clan are capable to burn down the atrocities, they do not reveal even the slightest
of the fire in them unless and until the time comes. Oh! Rajan, you and your
sons are the creepers on the Pandavas like Salavruksha, these creepers cannot
live without these Salavrukshas. Oh! Rajan, you and your sons are like the
dense forest and the Pandavas are the lion in it. If the wood is free from the lions,
it would meet destruction and the same thing would happen to the lions too.”
