Sri Sanathsujatheeyam – Sri Mahabharath - Sri Shankarabhashyam – Bhashyam – 41 - 44 – The difference between the Athmajjani and ignorant Jeeva/ The results of Punya and Apunya Karma/‘Adharma cannot disparage the Dharma’

Chapter 25 - Bhashyam –  41 - 44– The difference between the Athmajjani and ignorant Jeeva/ The results of Punya and Apunya Karma/‘Adharma cannot disparage the Dharma’

Dhritarashtra raised questions about some  people follow the Dharmic rites like Agnihotra, spiritual and religious rites, etc, at the same time, some are engaged in Adharmic rites which are overruled by our Shastra, is there any possibility to remove the Papakarma/results of sinful deeds with the act of following of Dharmic rites? or the Dharmic and Papakarma both get annulled with the act?. Sage Sanathkumara explains that the performance of any Dharmic rites will not remove the Papakarma, or the ‘Adharma cannot disparage the Dharma’. The ignorant Jeeva should undergo the consequence of Dharmic and Adharmic rites. The intelligent ones with the knowledge of ‘self’ /Parmarththa Thaththva, burns down the Punya/piousness, fruits of Dharmic rite, and Papa/sinful deeds. Not a single Jeeva is free from Punya and Papa, but the Vidhwan destroys the Ubhaya/Papapunya with the knowledge of all-pervasive Bhramam. The Avidhvan/ignorant consider the Dhehi/body is the means to consume the Punya and Papa Karma.

Bhashyam – 42

Sage Sanathkumara speaks “Oh! Rajan, I shall describe how the Jjyani destroys the results of Punyapapa, which was earned by the PunyapunyaLakshna Karma/deeds of piousness and sin, with the knowledge of supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva. Shruthi Smrithi, and Purana states ’Bhidhyathe Hridhayagrandhi”/get relieved from all the attachments, “Yadha Pushkara Palasha Apo Na Shlishyanthe Yevamevam Vidhi Papam Karma Na Shlishyathe”/ Pushkarapalasha/lotus flower holds the droplets of water without getting attached to it, does not get tainted with the water in it, like that the AthmaJjyani remains unblemished by the Papakarma. The Eshikathoolam/bamboo woods burn down in the flames, Gnani/intellectual with the knowledge of ‘Athman’ burn down all the Papapunya/piousness and sins, eventually attains that supreme Bramham, Paramatha resides as a soul that is unblemished/Niranjjana. The Jjyani shred off the Papapunya like the Ashwam/horse shred off its bodily hair. The Smrithi states “Oh! Arjjuna, the learned burn down the Punyapapa like the Ghee poured in the flames”.

The ignorant Jeeva undergoes the results of Papa and Punya Karma, the Shruthi, Smrithi, Purana states “An  ignorant Jeeva performs all the Ishtapoorththa Karma/performances of the rite for the fulfillment of material matters, and desires, and constantly engages in the performance of the same, without the knowledge of ‘self’/Paramaththa Thaththva. They enjoy the fruitful results of the Karma performed, and hurl down to the vicious cycles of repeated births, eventually, they would be thrown to Earth to undergo endless miseries and sorrows of worldly existence. Further, they fall upside down in the Samsara which is Andhakoopa/dark well; completely drenched in the darkness of ignorance, remains Athmaghathi/killer of ‘Athman’, due to lack of knowledge of ‘Athman’ resides as a soul in them, undergoes constant sufferings and miseries, and achieves the world of the same nature even after death. The wise/learned ones, who have a profound knowledge of Thapathrya/Adhideivika, Adhibhauthika, Adhyathmika achieves the state of ‘Amrithyu’ free from miseries and sorrows.”

Bhashyam – 43

Sage Sanathkumara answers to the questions of Dhritharshtra that was asked about the ignorant/Avidhvan, should undergo the fruits of Punyapapa/piousness and sins or Papakarma can be nullified with the performance of Punyakarma.

The ignorant performs Punyapunya/Dharma and Adharma, Karma and moved to Paraloka/nether lands, and consumes the fruits of Punyapapa at different intervals. The learned one destroys the fruits of Punyapunya in the Ihaloka/in this world; his piousness/Dharma is stronger than the Papa/sins.

Bhashyam – 44

The Bhrihadharanya Upanishadh says “Oh! Gargi, the ignorant who lacks the knowledge of that Aksharam Bhramam resides as soul in the Jeeva does not make any effort to understand the unblemished Paramathma Parambhramam which has neither birth nor death, unblemished, pure, free from afflictions is Sacchidhanandhaswaroopa/Sath/indestructible, Chith/pure, Anandha/supreme bliss, of that Bhramam, resides as ‘Athman’ and engages in the performance of various Karma and Homa,  they engage to please Anyadhevatha/various deities would achieve the destructible world/Nashvaraloka.” The Chandhokhyaupanishad says “The learned one with the performance of Karma and Dharma destroys Papa.” The Vidhwan while living on this Earth performs the rites as the Eshwararththakarma/Karma performed offered to Eshwara/Sarvam Krishnarppanam/ and destroys the Papa. He performs the Tapas and Ijya/sacrifices for the destruction of the Papa, eventually achieves the knowledge of supreme Bramham, and attains union with the supreme Bhramam. The Vidhwan who has attained the Athmasakshathkara, if they yearn for Swargaphalam/heavenly pleasures receive the piousness of the fruits of Punyakarma in the Paraloka as well, and after that, they return to Gnanamarga.

The shruthi says “The Jeeva, who has the Vispardhdha /no belief and disrespects the Dharmic rites, will not achieve Vijjana. The Jeeva who has no Spardhdha/attachments to the fruitful results of karma, in the Dharma achieves Gnana.” In this way, the learned performs all the Karma as “Eshwararththam”/Narayanayethi Samarppayami/surrender all the fruitfulness of the Karma to Lord Narayana, his Dharmic rites are stronger than the Papa. The Kevalakarmi/one who sincerely follows the Karma, their Dharmic rites have not enough strength; hence he has to undergo the Punya and Papaphala while living on the Earth. Therefore, the performance of Dharmic rites cannot remove the results of sinful deeds.
