Chapter – 12– Chanakya Neethi – 11 -23
Rishi Chanakyaspeaks “ I have these six
as my much-loved 1,) Truth is my mother
2) Wisdom is my father 3) Kindness is my sister 4) Serenity of mind is my wife and 5) Endurance is my son. The eternal truth
is 1) The wealth, possession, grains, richness, fame, relatives, wife,
children, companion are impermanent, it has a short life, will not be permanent
while living on the Earth and will not accompany life after death 2) The undeniable truth is that the body undergoes constant transformation, aging,
illnesses and death, hence the attachment to the body, and spending whole life in
protecting and beautifying is meaningless 3) The birth is followed by death, it
is unavoidable and unpredictable as well. Therefore, concentrate on performing
propitious deeds, charities, and ensure the welfare of society and its
people, the Punyakarma performed would bring piousness life after death. I take
immense pleasure in listening and singing in praise of glorious myths and
various pastimes of supreme Lord Krishna, like 1) the Bhramin/twice-born, get highly
pleased to receive an invitation for a sumptuous meal 2) the cows take great
pleasure in grazing in the lush green lands 3) the wife takes great pleasure in
the physical pleasure with her husband. The true Panditha/intellectual is 1)
the one who considers other’s wife as Mother 2) the one who consider other’s
wealth as mud 3) the one who considers everyone is ‘Equal’, Oneness-in-All. Oh!
Raghava, you have superior virtues like 1) firm belief in Dharma 2) you have
most pleasing nature and pleasant talk 3) you have great enthusiasm in
performing charities 4) you have a great sense of ‘Oneness-in all’ 5) you have
humility towards the elderly 6) you have great persona 7) you have purity in
conduct 8) you have countless virtues 9) you have profound knowledge in all the
Shastras 10) you have charismatic looks 11) you are an ardent devotee of Lord
Mahadeva. Oh! Raghupathe, whom should I compare your virtues, 1) The Kalpavriksha
is a divine tree which could fulfill all the wishes except Moksha, 2) Mount
Meru is the golden mountain could provide rich natural and mineral wealth, but
it's immovable 3)the precious gem Chinthamani provides all that desired 4) Surya
has superior radiance to illuminate the whole Universe with its brilliance 5)
Chandhra provides cool rays after a day of burning heat 6) The ocean is vast
but have saltwater in it 7)Kamadeva has no physical appearance 8) Bali is the
son of Dhithi and 9)Nandhini is a divine cow, even though they are highly honored
for their virtues, have limitations. How shall I compare you with them?. The permanent truth is 1) the knowledge is
the best companion of a person while living in a foreign land/unknown lands
2) the virtuous wife is the best companion of a husband 3) medicine is the best
companion of a patient 4) the Punyakarma/righteous deeds are the superior
companion of a Jeeva life after death. The good lessons should be learned 1)
humility from the sons of ruler 2) pleasant talks from the intellectuals, and
learned 3) lies from the gamblers 4) wickedness from the women. The people who have the following nature
meets destruction in no time 1) person who spends huge money without proper
thinking 2) an orphan 3) The people who find opportunities to argue and
constantly engages in the conflicts and 4) person with ailments. An intelligent person will not chase after
tasty meals, because the portion of the meal of every individual is
pre-destined at the time of birth, therefore, the learned always think of the opportunities
to perform Dharmic rites. The people who have abandoned Lajja/shame in the
consumption of meal and honest deeds, while earning wealth, grains, and
education would achieve great success and happiness in the worldly existence.
The constant learning and practicing the knowledge from various fields, and
performance of righteous deeds would flourish, like the mud pot kept out in the
open fills with the rainwater. The
wicked and deceitful people will not change their approach and nature even
after reaching the latter years of age; like the bitter gourd has the taste of
bitterness will not disappear even after it gets ripened.”
