Viveka Choodamani – Sri Shankaracharya Virachitham – Moksha is breaking the chain of Avidhya/ignorance and Hridhayagrandhi/attachments to material matters, people, money, richness, wealth, fame, possession etc.

Chapter – 56– Viveka Choodamani  - 551 – 560

Preceptor speaks “The Athmajjani immersed in the Athmanandharasa/supreme bliss, gives out the appearance of Unmaththa/insane, will not take pleasure in the Vishya/interest in worldly matters, people, richness wealth, money, fame, possession, or Indhriya/listening, touching, speaking seeing, doing things, or do not restrain the senses or do not expect the fruit of deeds, he remains a simple witness. These Mahatmas are the Athmaswaroopa supreme Lord Maheshwara, does not have the Lakshya or Alakhshya, are the Bhramavidhuththama/Sakshath Shiva. These Mahatmas are liberated from attachments and contended while living on the Earth, once the Upadhi/physical body destroys they achieve union with the Advaitha Bhramam, like the person who attired colorful costumes to perform the show, get rid of the costumes. These Bhramajjyani remain supreme Bhramam while living on the Earth and afterlife too. Athmajjani burns the physical body in the Gnanagni/Tapasya, austerities, knowledge of self-etc. and abandons the mortal coil like the trees discard the yellow leaves, therefore if the body exists or not, the Mahathma continues to remain as supreme Bhramam. These Mahathma/Athmajjanis constantly contemplates upon the supreme Bhramam, consider the body as a bundle of Mamsapinda/mass of meat, collection of meat, bones, and skin, hence they do not look Dhesha/region or Kala/Time to discard the collection of Mamsapinda, they abandon the body as and when they desire. Moksha is not the refusal of the Dhanda/stick, Kamandalu/water pan, or Shareera/body. Moksha is breaking the chain of attachments to worldly matters, bondage, ignorance/Agnanagrandhi. The trees do not bother about the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the ripened leaves fallen on the river, pond, or shrine of Lord Shiva, or middle of the roads, in the same manner, the Athmajjani does not get hesitate to leave their physical body anywhere on the Earth, and it has nothing to do with the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness. The tree does not get hurt by the falling off fruits, leaves, or twig, etc., in the same manner, the Athmajjani achieved union with the Sacchidhananda Swaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam do not get affected by the refusal of Prana, body, Indhriya, mind and intellect. The ‘Athman’/soul is addressed Prajjanaghanaswaroopa, indestructible Purusha and the body is destructible Prakrithi, which undergoes aging, illnesses and death, the Mahamthma who have already abandoned the interest in the Prapancha achieves union with the Akhanda Sacchidhananda Swaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam resides soul, discard their physical body effortlessly like the serpent shred its outer skin.”
