Sri Guru Gita – Sri Skandhapuranam Uththarakhanda Umamaheshwara Samvadham – Chapter 3 – The worship and selfless service to Guru are Tapasya - The lotus feet of the preceptor is the origin of all the sacred Theertha

Chapter – 3 – Sri Guru Gita –21 – 30

Lord Mahadeva speaks “Oh! Devi, I have described the Dharmasara/the essence of Dharma to you, I shall repeatedly promise you that there are no sacred verses superior to Guru Gita, or there are no sacred hymns superior which describes the splendor of the Preceptor. The preceptor symbolizes the supreme Lord and Dharma/righteousness, the sincere service and worship at the lotus feet of the preceptor are the Tapasya. There is no philosophy superior to Guru Thaththva, there is no one superior to Preceptor, I shall repeatedly promise you Guru is Dharma, worship and sincere service to preceptor is Tapasya, and Guru Thaththva is the supreme philosophy. Oh! Devi, The Jeeva who sincerely devoted to preceptor would be fortunate, and the Mother Earth would get pleased to bear him, and the parents, Gothra and Kula achieve fruitfulness of the Gurubhakthi of the person born in the clan. Oh! Devi, the sincere worship at the lotus feet of Guru, and selfless service to Guru would please him, it would provide the fruitfulness of all the pious deeds, including the performance of Yaga, Tapasya, Vratha, of Kalpakoti. The preceptor is none other than the Bhramam, he is Matha, Pitha, Bandhu, Swajana, Sakha, Buddhi, Indhriya, Mana, Prana, wealth, possession, clan, etc. The unfortunate Jeeva keeps afar from the preceptor, loses the opportunity to serve the preceptor and worship him, ultimately hurls into hell.  Oh! Parvathi, the perpetual grace of preceptor is essential to achieve the fruitfulness of life, otherwise even if he is Bhrama, Vishnu, Shiva, Rudra, Pithru, Deva, Gandharva, Kinnara, Siddha, Charana, Yaksha, Muni, etc. will not achieve the fruitfulness of life, and their destruction is certain. The wisdom, wealth, courage, strength, fortune, etc. without the grace of the preceptor will not provide fruitfulness/success. Oh! Devi, the lotus feet of the preceptor is the origin of all the sacred Theerthas, therefore, the selfless service and sincere worship of Guru would provide commendable rewards, without the devotion and faith at the feet of Guru, the dip in the sacred rivers would be meaningless. Oh! Devi, I have not shared the highly confidential and superior verses of Guru Gita to unfortunate Jeeva who are depraved, drenched in the material matters of richness, wealth, money, possession, fame, attachment to wife, children, relatives, companions, etc. and the Jeeva constantly chases after sensual pleasure, impure and swollen with pride of the body and I consciousness.”
