Sri Arya Sapthakam of Lord Surya – Lyrics and meanings

I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Surya who is decorated in lotus flowers and releases intense heat waves, he has crimson colored lips like Shuka/parrot, he initiates from the East, he is decked in magnificent ear rings.  Victory to Lord Surya who is worshiped during the hours of dawn and dusk by Lord Parameshwara/Thrinethra whose lotus feet is with the constant touches of the crowns of the deities, he is the source of supreme brilliance.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Surya who is the precious ornament of Udhayachala, he is the commander of heavenly planets, he is the Choodamani/precious ornament in the sky, and he shines as the magnificent ear stud in all directions.    Victory to Lord Surya who is the provider of happiness to the living beings, he destroys the darkness with his brilliant rays, he is crimson colored sphere resembles to lotus flower.   Victory to Lord Surya who is the cause for blossoming lotus flowers, kindles the Chakravaha birds, he witnesses all the worlds, he is always enthusiastic in providing auspiciousness to the virtuous.    Victory to Lord Surya who has the resemblance to the precious molten yellow metal, he is capable to awaken the lotus flowers with his rays; I shall earnestly pray to remove all our impurities.   I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Surya who is an added magnificent ornament/Chamaram to Udhayadhri, his chariot is driven by green colored horses that raises crimson colored dust with their hooves, he has green horses and he is attired in green colored garments, he serves as supreme light in the garden like sky.    Victory to Lord Surya who awakes the whole Universe in the early hours of dawn, and turns off at the time of dawn, he is unparalleled, whole Universe resembles lotus flower that blossoms at the hours of dawn and shrivel in the hours of dusk.  Victory to Lord Surya who shines like precious molten yellow metal in the early hours of dawn, his seven horses heave above the ocean by offering admiration.  This Arya Sapthakam is originated from the sacred Sambapuram in the sky.




Whoever venerates these glorious verses or preserve as jewel on their throat would be blessed with permanent prosperity and wealth.   Whoever reads or listens to Arya Sapthakam seven times  on the day of Sapthami would be blessed with the eternal presence of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi.  Whoever recites or listen to these glorious hymns and worship Lord Surya with utmost faith and devotion would be blessed with permanent wealth, it would work as superior medicine for the illnesses, and it is capable to fulfill all the desires of the worshiper.




Chandhra Dhyanam –



I shall meditate upon Lord Chandhra/Soma, who has crystal complexion and luster of camphor, he has charismatic looks and ever pleasing, he is decked in various precious pearl garlands which spread sparkling all around and removes the darkness, he carries lotus flower in one hand and other hand in Varada hastha postures/provides abundance of boons to devotees, he has blue lustrous hair locks, he has deer on his lap which is the symbol of mercy, he is the source of nectar of immortality.




Kuja Dhyanam –



I shall prostrate before Lord Kuja who is the son of Mother Earth and Lord of Vindhya, he has crimson color complexion, he carries trident, spear, mace as weapons, he has goat as his celestial vehicle, he is attired in crimson colored clothes and crimson colored umbrella which was offered by Bharadhvaja, he explores through the path ways of Mount Meru with utmost reverence, he dwells on the Dhakshin side/South among the planets.




Budha Dhyanam –



I shall prostrate before Lord  Budha  who is the symbol of righteousness and fame, he is Athreya, he dwells on the corner of  Eeshanya/North East  among the planets, he has the size of Bana, he carries Thooneeram and Bana/bow, he is attired in yellow garments and yellow colored garlands, he has chariot that carries magnificent flag and Umbrella and circumambulates the divine Mount Mahameru.




Guru Dhyanam –



I shall prostrate before Lord Guru who disperse pure clothes with his right hand, his one hand on the treasure box filled with gems, he is decked in yellow colored flower garlands, he is attired in yellow garments, he is decorated with yellow sandal paste on his forehead, he is decked in various precious ornaments, he is the symbol of wisdom and knowledge/who crossed the ocean of knowledge, he is Suraguru/preceptor of deities and he has intense luster of precious yellow metal.




Shukra Dhyanam –



I shall meditate upon Lord Shukra who dwells in the profit-making place, seated on the white lotus flower, he is attired in white garments, his forehead is decorate with white fragrant paste, he is dispersing clothes, gold and precious gems with his left hand and right hand in Vyakhyana Mudhra, he has attractive smile on his face, he has fair complexion and he is worshiped by the prominent demons.




Shaneeshwara Dhyanam –



I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Shaneeshwara who has dark blue complexion which resembles Sapphire, he dwells in the blue lotus flower, his eyes has supreme brilliance, he is always in rage due to hunger, he has thin long figure with no muscles on his body, he is fierce looking and dreadful, he has long matted hair locks and mustache.
