Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath – Chapter
- 7- 3
Chapter – 3- The conversation between
Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 41 - 60
Vidura speaks “ Oh! Bharatharsbhabha, an
intelligent person is the one, who foresee the troubles and well prepared to
face them all, will have a clear cut idea about immediate action, will have clear
memories of past mistakes, and will make all efforts not to repeat them; these types
of people never meet destruction. Oh! Rajan, the person who sincerely strives
hard for something which is desired by words, deed, and mind would achieve the
same, therefore always think and act for the welfare of all. Oh! Rajan, the
constant association with the Sajjana would bring auspiciousness, virtue; inculcate
hard-working nature to achieve success, the practice of Yoga, knowledge in
scriptures, perseverance, enthusiasm, etc. Oh! Rajan, grief is the root cause
for the inauspiciousness, therefore the person who is free from grief would
achieve all the auspiciousness, fame, and success in life. Oh! Rajan, the person
who holds a responsible position should have great endurance power which brings
auspiciousness and welfare. Oh! Rajan, a weak person keeps amiable all the times;
a strong person will keep amiable while performing Dharmic rites. The person
who considers profit and loss as a part of the business will have great
endurance power. Oh! Rajan, the types of pleasure that do not affect Dharma
and Arththa of a person should be enjoyed at the fullest, but never be a fool
who drenched in pleasures without any control on sense. Oh! Rajan, these kinds
of people lack auspiciousness and undergo constant afflictions 1) depressed 2)
careless 3) non-believer 4) lazy 5) people who have no control over sense and
6) unenthusiastic, the powerful take control over these people. Hence, humble, kind, and compassionate people
become the victim of harassment. Oh!
Rajan, listen to me, these kinds of people will not approach by the Goddess of
wealth, she gets scared of these kinds of people. 1) person who performs an abundance of charities without the knowledge of the income 2) kind-hearted
people 3) valorous 4) person who sincerely follows the vows and 5) person who
is proud of his intelligence. Oh! Rajan,
1) Veda encourages the performance of Agnihotra, 2) learning scriptures
provides virtues, 3) wife provides sensual pleasures, 4) wealth provides the
sense of charity, and take pleasure in it.
Oh! Rajan, the Sathkarma/charities, religious, and spiritual rites
performed with the money earned in an immoral means would not bring
piousness. The money earned in sinful
ways will not provide welfare afterlife/Paraloka and while living on Earth. Oh! Rajan, strong people will not get scared
even if they were attacked with a weapon in lonely places, dense wood, difficult
pathways, and dangerous areas. Oh! Rajan, hard work, control over sense, skill, concentration and
dedication, enthusiasm, great memory
power, the performance of deed with thorough knowledge in it, would bring auspiciousness.
Oh! Rajan, 1 ) the strength of Tapasvis are their austerities and penance, 2)
the strength of Bhramajjyani is the knowledge in scriptures, Veda, and Vedantha, 3) the strength of a wicked person
is violence, and 4) the strength of the virtuous person is patience. Oh! Rajan,
1) water 2) fiber roots and vegetables 3) fruits 4) milk 5) ghee 6) follow the advice
of Bhramin and preceptor 7) consumption of herbal medicines won’t create
obstacles to austerities and vow. Oh! Rajan, do not impose rules on others
which is unfavorable to you. Oh! Rajan, 1) Krodha/anger can be conquered by silence/patience;
2) wicked should be conquered by goodness, 3) miser should be conquered by
charity, 4) untruthfulness can win
over by the truthfulness. Oh! Rajan, do not keep trust on these people 1)
Sthree/woman 2) deceitful person 3) lazy people 4) coward 5) merciless person
6) proud and haughty person 7) thief 8) ungrateful person 9) non-believer. Oh!
Rajan, the person who respects the elderly people and loves their company would
develop Keerthi/fame, Ayuss/long life, Yashass/goodness, and Balam/strength.”
