Chapter – 2 – Chanakya Neethi 11 -20
Rishis Chanakya speaks “The parents’
plays important role in bringing up their children as a Neethijja and
Sheelasampanna /responsible individual. The parents who fail to perform their
duties, giving attention to their children, or do not spend time to teach moral
values, disciplines, good habits, or instills knowledge of customary rite, or
impart knowledge of Shashthra or Purana, are equally held responsible for the destruction caused by their children in the future, hence that kind of parents
are considered as the greatest enemies of the children. In the future, these children feel insecure
and embarrassed to expose themselves in the crowd of the intellectuals, like the
duck among the swan. The Puthra/son and Shishya/disciple should be treated
with sternness imposing punishments for the mistakes, parents who give over-attention,
comforts and luxuries to their children are responsible for spoiling them by
over-indulging in the richness that could do harm in their future, hence children
should be brought up with the strict discipline and imposing punishments for their
mistakes, so that they will grow up as a responsible citizen. Children should
be taught the verses from scriptures on a regular basis, learning even one
verse or half of the verse from the sacred scriptures would do good to them, they
should be introduced to perform charities, Adhyayana/learning scriptures and
sacred texts on a daily basis, and introduce them to take part in various
Sathkarma/righteous deeds would bring an abundance of piousness and
fruitfulness to their life. The seven
things would burn the person without fire 1) separation from beloved wife 2)
humiliation from relatives 3) debt 4) serving a wicked King 5) sufferings of
poverty and 6) lack of sincere
companion. There are three things that meet its ruin in no time 1) trees on the edge
of rivers 2) woman living in strangers home and 3) The King without an
intelligent and loyal minister. The strength of a twice-born/Bhramin vested in
his knowledge in Veda, scriptures, and sacred texts, The strength of a King
vested in the size of an excellent army of warriors and the strength of a Vaishya
is the wealth earned out of the skill in the field of commerce and industry,
finally, the strength of Shudhra is their honesty and sincerity in the service
to Bhramin, Kshatriya, and Vaishya. The visible truths are 1) prostitute will
not welcome a pauper 2) an unwise and defeated ruler will abandon by the people
of the country forever 3) tree without fruits will discard by the birds 4)
guest receives hospitality and leave the home. 5) Bhramin leave the Yajaman
after receiving Dhakshina/priestly charges, 6) disciple leave the preceptor
immediately after the completion of course 7,) wild animals abandon the forest that burnt in the wildfire. The
association with these four kinds of people will cause ruin 1) person who has
unwarranted habits 2) the person who is wicked and selfish 3) person who lives
among the crooked people and the 4) person who is morally wrong. The auspicious things are 1) friendship should
be made with the people of equal status; 2) service to a wise ruler would bring
auspiciousness 3) business deals should be performed in the open market 4) attractive
and virtuous women who live in her house would bring auspiciousness. ”
