Chapter – 82- Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The important three
phases of life/childhood, adulthood, youthful and later years of age
Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, I
feel I have wasted my entire life chasing after worldly matters of fleeting
nature, drenched in lust, desire, ego, pride, jealousy, and anger, I have
committed several grave sins, and my hairs from head to toe are soaked in serious sins,
the sins committed by word, mind, and deed. Oh! Prabho, my Karma, and
Gnanendhriyas/Dhasendhriyas/mind and intellect were chasing infinite sounds,
passion, touch, smell, and appearances for material as well as physical
pleasures. Oh! Prabho, I have wasted the three important phases of life such as
Balyavastha/childhood, Kishoravastha/adulthood, and Tharunavastha/youthful days
drenched in worldly matters and achievement of fame, possession, richness,
wealth, money, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. finally I have
approached the later years of age crippled with aging, illnesses, fear of
death, the grief of separation from beloved ones, my limbs became fragile, the senses are not functioning like they used to be, my body is failing to co-ordinate
with the mind. Oh! Prabho, Oh! Pathithapavana, you are the protector of the
distressed Jeeva, if you do not protect this distressed, ignorant and unfortunate
person like me, I may be compelled to think that you haven’t liberated anyone. Oh!
Prabho, I was not singing the glories which I have heard, Oh! Jagannatha, you
are the protector of the Universe and its living and non-living things, you have
taken a vow to protect the souls surrendered at your lotus feet, Oh! Krishna,
kindly protect me so that I can believe that you haven’t ignored your vows to
your devotees.”
