Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The cycles of birth and death - The growth of the fetus in the mother’s womb and the description of human life

Chapter – 288-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The cycles of birth and death - The growth of the fetus in the mother’s womb and the description of human life

The unfortunate Jeeva/humans drenched in worldly matters of infinite sounds, touches, passion, smell, and appearances, driven afar from the practice of devotion/Bhakti, wisdom/Gnana, and Vairagya/renunciation gets thrown into the abode of Lord Yama after death and undergoes hellish tortures. After some time, the soul enters into the womb of any of these eighty-four Lakh types of creatures in the Universe, and keeps taking birth as Air-born, Water-born, and Earth-born creature and undergoes suffering, and this will continue until the soul enters into the Veerya/sperm of the father through the meals consumed, eventually, the sperm get deposited into the womb of a mother through their intimate physical contact. This is how a soul attains the precious birth of a human after hurling into the series of cycles of birth and death in the womb of eighty-four Lakh types of creatures.

The first few days after the physical relationship, the sperm deposited in the mother’s womb would remain as a water bubble, and it takes a month to grow into the size of a berry. The next month, the berry-sized fetus achieves a head, in the third month it achieves hands and legs, and in the fourth month the fingers start to grow, and the Pranavayau/vital air of the mother gives movement to the fetus. In the fifth month, the fetus would achieve bones, and in the sixth month the Indhriya/sensory organs. In the seventh month, the fetus achieves ‘life’/consciousness, and in the eighth month, the fetus achieves all the limbs. The fetus turns upside down in the mother’s womb, and here onwards the struggle begins for the unborn, the head remains in the water mixed with its excreta, urine, and worms. The heat and cold food consumed by the mother would become unbearable for the fetus, which makes the fetus constantly move in the tiny dark space in the mother’s womb. The worms from the excreta and urine constantly attack its tender head, and it becomes unbearable in this way, the fetus undergoes hellish torture in the mother’s womb. In the ninth month, the fetus recollects its previous birth and repeatedly prays to the supreme Lord “ Oh! Prabho, kindly protect me from the hellish torture, if I leave this tiny dark space, I will practice devotion at your lotus feet, Oh! Prabho, kindly shower your compassionate grace and provide me Ananyabhakthi/uninterrupted devotion at your lotus feet, and do not forget the supreme wisdom.” Thus, in the tenth month, the infant is pushed out of the mother’s womb, and eventually, it forgets everything that has happened while in the mother’s womb.

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “ The initial childhood days are extremely difficult, the hunger, thirst, and pain cannot be expressed by words, the child has to lay in excreta and urine unnoticed, and in addition to that the troubles from the flies. After six months, the child starts to move here and there, and the parents won’t allow it, again the child feels unhappy. The parents take care of the child with great love, and in return, the child starts to show affection to them, in this way, the bond between the child and parent gets stronger.  Childhood is spent in various amusements, and as the years pass by the child grows into an adult.  Later, the Jeeva/human gets married to a beautiful woman, and together their needs grow endless, like decent meals, clothing, shelter, etc. Once again, the Jeeva feels disappointed to bring the necessities of life and the chase begins for the accumulation of wealth, possession, fame money, richness, children, companion, relatives, etc. and it continues until the later years of age. Once, the Jeeva attains the later years of age, the sensory organs become dull, the ears lose their hearing capacity, eyesight becomes dull, the limbs become fragile, movements get restricted, the limbs won’t co-ordinate with the mind, and the understanding ability disappears, the memory loses, speaking ability reduces, words won’t come out of the mouth, the airways get blocked, consumption of meals becomes difficult, and the persistent fear of death, loneliness, grief at the separation of beloved ones becomes a constant companion. Finally, the Jeeva meets its end with huge regret for not striving to achieve the ultimate object of human life, the four Purusharththa/righteousness, wealth to do righteous deeds, desire to perform righteous deeds, and Moksha/liberation from worldly existence. Once again, the soul gets shoveled into the hellish torture in the abode of Yama and thrown to the womb of eighty-four-lakh types of creatures such as Airborn, Waterborn, and Earthborn, thus, the cycles of death and birth continue. Oh! Mortals, abandon your interest in worldly matters of fleeting nature and contemplate and meditate upon Lord Sri Hari to get rid of sufferings of worldly existence and repeated births.”
