Chapter – 285- Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – Who is a liberated
soul? - The method of meditation upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari – Conversation
between Devahoothi and Sage Kapila
Sage Kapila
speaks “Oh! Mother, the association with the Sathpurusha, Santh Mahathma would
remove the impurities of the mind such as lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride,
anger, Ahamkara and Mamakara, and eventually the interest in sinful deeds too.
The intake of meals should be limited, the half of the stomach should fill with
water and the remaining half with cooked grains, leaving spaces for the
circulation of air, so that it won’t create lethargy in the person. Whatever is
earned should be accepted with utmost content, leaving greed and always striving
to achieve more. Oh! Mother, live in a workplace where there is no fear, even
if it is a sacred place if the fear persists, it is advisable to leave the
place immediately. The intellectuals/spiritual seekers/Mahapurusha perceives
Bhagavan Sri Hari who has a dark cloud complexion and his four arms holding the
Shankha, Chakra, Gadha, and Padmam/ Chathurbhujaroopa Shyamavarnna and meditates
upon his lotus feet, which is the origin of the sacred river Ganga on the Earth,
and the powerful water current settled on the matted hair locks of Lord Shiva,
thus it multiplied the auspiciousness of Lord Shiva. Oh! Mother, perceive the lotus
feet of Lord Sri Hari which is always caressed by Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi, and
keep staring at the marvelousness of it. Oh! Mother, perceive the beautiful calves
of Lord Sri Hari that resemble the trunk of a plantain tree, or pillars of the precious
yellow metal, meditate upon the wide and beautiful chest, and the neck area, adorned
with the symbol of Srivathsa, the Vanamala/ garland of various fresh alluring
flowers, and the precious gem Kausthubha necklace respectively. Oh! Mother,
perceive the deep navel of the Lord, and a pleasing smile on his attractive
face. His beautiful eyes are long and stretched up to ears, which resemble the
petals of lotus flowers that would remove the grief and sufferings of worldly
existence. Oh! Mother, he has a beautiful nose, that resembles the beak of a parrot
would remove the grief as well the suffering from the dualities of sorrow and
happiness, joy and grief, honor and disgrace, cold and heat, etc. His ears resemble
a deep well and are adorned in beautiful fish-shaped ear ornaments, he is
adorned with vermilion and sandalwood paste on the beautiful forehead is beyond
description, the effulgence of his forehead is beyond comparison, there is no beautiful
thing in the Universe to match with it, that excels the beauty of crores of
Kamadeva. His beautiful curly hair locks adorned with the magnificent crown and
feathers of the peacock. He is attired in the finest yellow silk garments, that
would steal the hearts of his devotees. Oh! Mother, in this way, perceive the
most brilliant form of Lord Sri Hari in your mind, and contemplate upon the marvelous
form of the Lord, if the mind shows the tendency to sneak on to the Samsara,
arrest it and bring back to the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari. This kind of
practice would bring fruitful results, the spiritual seeker would adapt to being
seated in a place leaving anxiousness, which would lead the mind to immerse in
meditation as well. Finally, the Sadhaka will achieve a state of trance while
walking and living in the Samsara, leaving the attachments to worldly matters
of fleeting nature, and perceive that supreme Bhramam that would make them forget
the worldly existence, hunger or thirst, happiness or sorrow, pain or joy, and
completely get rid of Thapathraya, these are Jeevanmuktha/liberated souls, even
though they live in the Samsara, they live like the lotus flower grown from the
mud pond, gracefully poised from water and dirt, free from all the impurities.”
