Chapter – 292- Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The significance of the
practice of devotion and meditation
Sri Surdas
Maharaj speaks “Oh! Mortals, abandon your interest in worldly matters of infinite
sounds, appearances, touches, smell, passion, etc. that have fleeting nature, leave
interest in worldly matters of possession, richness, wealth, money, fame,
children, wife, companion, and relatives, that constantly throw the Jeeva into
constant grief and agony/three kinds of grief. Oh! Mortals, get rid of the
impurities of the mind such as lust, desire, ego, jealousy, pride, anger,
Ahamkara, and Mamakara by the practice of devotion/Bhakthimarga, Ashtanga Yoga/Yam,
Niyama, Asan, Prathyahara/perfect control over senses, Pranayama, Dharana,
Dhyana, undertake austerities, observe celibacy, truthfulness, kindness to
fellow beings, non-violence, Dhanam, Shama, Dhama, Dhyanam, Astheyam, Arjjavam,
Swadhyaya, etc. and sincerely follow the teachings of your preceptor,
ultimately you would achieve the supreme state of Samadhi/mystical state, in
this way get rid of the attributes/Sathvik, Rajasik, and Thamasik,
Karmabandhan/attachment to Karma and three kinds of grief, contemplate and meditate upon Lord Shyam
Sundar, sing in praise of his endless virtues.”
