Thiruppalliyezhuchi – Thiru Manikkavasagar - Lyrics and meanings

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar addressing the Lord Athmanatheswarar at Thiruperumthurai/Avudaiyar Kovil and describes his glories.  Thiruperumthurai, a flourished land of rich paddy fields and beautiful pond filled with enthralling lotus flowers of various colors and fragrances.  Thiru Manikkavasagar informs his master Lord Athmanatha about the arrival of early hours of dawn.   He expresses his earnest desire to worship him with the fresh alluring flowers and requests him to wake up.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar passionately singing about the pleasant raise of Lord Surya on the east which has the similarity of the compassion of Lord and the blooming lotuses in the beautiful pond inviting the rush of honey bees has the close resemblances to the eyes of Lord Athmanathar of Thiruperumthurai.  Thiru Manikkavasagar earnestly requests the Supreme Lord to wake up and provide abundance of happiness and affluences in the life of his devotees.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar earnestly informs Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperumthurai about the arrival of daylight, chirping of birds and rooster’s cries, reverberating sound of the divine Conch and the dispersion of stars in the sky in the light of dawn.  Thiru Manikkavasagar reveals his earnest desire to immerse in the devotion of Lord who is intricate to understand even by the deities and Sages, and requests to show the lotus feet of the most compassionate Lord.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar describes the presence of devotees of Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperumthurai,  some of the devotees are playing the divine instrument Veena, some of them are playing Yazhi (a kind of string instrument), some of the devotees are chanting the Vedic hymns, some of them are reciting the glories of Lord, some  are standing passively before the majestic Lord with the folded hands, some are shedding tears of joy after witnessing the glorious form of Lord, some of the devotees are present before him with the hands held high on their head.  Thiru Manikkavasagar earnestly requests Lord to wake up and bless them.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar praising the glories of Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperumthurai located in the serene land of lush green paddy field.  The scholars admiring Lord Shiva as the fundamental nature of Panchaboothas (Earth, Water, Wind, Ether and Fire) and supreme Lord who has  no birth and death, the devotees who have witnessed the celestial form of Lord Shiva, singing and dancing praising the glories, he is addressing Lord Shiva as King of Thiruperumthurai .  Thiru Manikkavasagar repeatedly says that he have no such experiences of bliss, forgive and forget the sins and bless.  He earnestly prays to Lord to wake up.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar describes the status of the devotees assembled to worship Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperumthurai, consort of Goddess Sri Parvati resides in the serene land of lush paddy fields and beautiful pond filled with lotuses.  Some of His devotees are saintly and are free from the material bondages and some of them are common people in attendance before Him to worship.  Thiru Manikkavasagar earnestly prays to Lord to wake up and provide us salvation form the birth and death.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar describes the glories and supremacy of Lord Athamanar of Thirupperunthurai as exceptional than the elixir of nectar of immortality found on the depth of milky ocean.   There is no specific name or forms to address the Supreme Lord who is not easy to perceivable but truly effortless for his devotees, yet the deities and Sages could not comprehend Him.  Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperumthurai shows the evidence of his various forms as well as his glorious names, and his presence in the serene land of Thiru Uthirakosamangai.  Thiru Manikkavasagar requests him to wake up and advice how to worship him to obtain his blessings.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar describes the grandeur of Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperunthurai who has no beginning or end, he is the crest, center and base unfamiliar to the trinities, and then who else would recognize him?  Goddess Sri Parvati who adores the Universe as ring on her finger and Lord Shiva who halt on the houses of ardent devotee who selflessly serves him for several years.  Thirumanikkavasagar passionately discloses the compassion of Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperunthurai who reveals his crimson colored body in the sanctum and his form as a Brahmin was attracted him dearly, he earnestly prays to Lord to wake up.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar praises the magnificence of Lord Athmanathar of Thirupperunthurai who is not accessible even for the deities and celestials, he is embodied as Universe and resides as soul in the living beings, facilitated his devotees with his majestic presence in the sacred land of Thirupperunthurai, and provides extreme happiness that resembles to the elixir of nectar for his devotees and constantly resides in the heart and thought of his sincere devotees.  Thiru Manikkavasagar earnestly prays to Lord who is precious to world to wake up.

In this verse, Thiru Manikkavasagar describes the quintessence of Lord Shiva of Thirupperunthurai who is eulogized by Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma and they desired to be born on Earth which was flourished by the eternal presence of Lord Shiva.  Thiru Manikkavasagar praises the compassion of Lord which is capable to provide salvation to his devotees and earnestly requests him to wake up.
