Sri Vaidhyanatha Ashtakam – Lyrics and meanings

I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha/supreme physician, he is worshiped by Lord Rama, Lakshman, Jatayu, Veda, Shadanana/six faced Shanmukha, Adhithya and Kuja, he has bluish throat and he is too compassionate. I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha, he is decked in sacred river Ganga on matted hair locks, he has three eyes, he eradicates untimely and accidental death of the worshiper, and he is worshiped by all the deities.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha, he is beloved of his passionate devotees, he destroyed the demons of cities of Thripura, he is wielded in powerful weapon Pinaka, he destroys wicked people, and he has performed various pastimes on the Earth. I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha, he eradicates troubles from evil spirts, troubles from air born diseases, he cures severe illnesses, he is worshiped by illustrious Rishis and Sages, and he has Lord Surya, Lord Chandhra and Lord Agni as three eyes.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha, he blesses people with excellent skill in speech, good hearing capacity and excellent vision to people who are lacking speech, hearing and vision, and he cures severe illnesses like leprosy and all incurable diseases too.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha, he is eulogized by Veda and Vedantha, he is all pervading, his lotus feet are worshiped by illustrious Yogis, he represents Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu and Lord Maheshvara, and he has thousands of sacred names. I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha, he is smeared in sacred ashes all over the body, he enthusiastically plays drum, he eradicates extreme fears, anxieities and fears from evil spirits, and he resides as soul in living beings. I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sri Vaidhyanatha, he is Sri Neelakanda who has bluish throat, he carries majestic flag that has the symbol of Vrishabha/bull, he is smeared in musk and sacred ashes, and he is the provider of virtuous offspring and wife, and all kinds of auspiciousness to worshiper.  Whoever reads or listens to the glorious verses praising the splendor of Lord Vaidhyanatha who is the consort of Goddess Sri Balambika, he is superior physician who eradicates the miseries and sorrows of worldly existence of the worshiper, whoever reads or listen to it thrice a day during the hours of dawn, noon and dusk on daily basis would be relieved from severe illnesses.

I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he is worshiped by Lord Rama, Saumithri/Lakshman, Jatayu,  Veda, Shadanana/Lord Karthikeya, Adithya, and  Kuja, he is Sri Neelakanda who has bluish throat, he is too compassionate, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he is decorated  in streams of Ganga and crescent moon on matted hair locks, he has three eyes, he crushed the pride of Lord Yama, he is worshiped by all the deities, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he is fond of his ardent devotees, he destroyed the demons of the cities of Thripura, he is wielded in powerful weapon Pinaka, he is the destroyer of enemies and wicked, he is eternal, he has performed various pastimes on Earth, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he eradicates all kinds of illnesses like arthrities, he is eulogized by Rishis and Sages, he has Lord Surya, Lord Chandhra and Lord Agni as  three eyes, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he provides excellence in speech, hearing ability and vision to the  unfortunate people who are lacking speech, hearing and vision, he eradicate severe illnesses like leprosy, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he is eulogized by Veda and Vedantha, he is all pervading, his lotus feet are  worshiped by illustrious Yogis, he represents trinities, he has  thousands of sacred names, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he is smeared in sacred ashes all over the body, he eradicates afflictions caused by evil spirits, anxieties and fears, he dwells as soul in living beings, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva, he is Vaidhyanatha who is the cure for all kinds of illnesses, he is Sri Neelakanda who has bluish throat, he carries flag that has the symbol of celestial bull, he is smeared in highly fragrant ashes, he provides virtuous offspring, approapriate companion as wedded wife, and all kinds of aupiciousness,  Whoever reads or listens to these glorious verses thrice a day with intense devotion and faith, praising the splendor of Lord Vaidhyanatha along with his consort  of Goddess Balambika who are the providers of liberation from repeated births,  would get relieved from all kinds critical illnesses.
