Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath - Chapter - 1
Chapter – 4 - The conversation between Vidura and King
Dhritarashtra 41 – 61
Vidura speaks “Oh! Bharatharshabha, the person who have committed the sins would definitely undergo the afflictions of Papakarma, even though there were several to consume the instant sweet part of the fruit of the Papakarma. In this way, the person who had to consume the beneficial part of the Papakarma remains safe from the afflictions, the doer alone bear the grief of Papakarma. Oh! Rajan, the arrows shot by an archer may or may destroy the object, but an intelligent person who used his skill for the Dhushkarma/treacherous act would definitely destroy the Kingdom as well as the King. Oh! Rajan, I shall describe the essence of Rajaneethi and the golden rules to live a happy life. 1) intellect – knowledge in all fields 2) the thorough knowledge of moral and immoral deeds 3) perfect usage of Sama, Dhanam, Bhedham, and Dhanda to win over the companion, enemy and lazy person 4) The perfect control over the sense 5,) The foremost six qualities of Rajaneethi are Sandhi, Vigraha, Yanam, Asanam, Dhakhaidhibhava, Samshraya 6) Abandon the lust and desire for women, gambling, hunting, usage of spirituous products, harsh talks, heinous punishments, and earning wealth through immoral means. Oh! Rajan, the poison kills the person who consumed it, and the weapons take away the life of the person who is under the attack. If the King is not wise, it would destroy the Kingdom, Praja, and the King as well. Oh! Rajan, do not consume anything excessively all alone, do not think alone to achieve success in any project, do not undertake long journeys all alone, do not keep awake while others are asleep. Oh! Rajan, The person who does not have the knowledge of Parmarththa/ supreme Bhramam which is absolute truth has no dual form, is considered as living dead. The knowledge of supreme Bhramam is the stepping stone to heavenly abode, and the safest ferry that helps the Jeeva to cross the bottomless ocean of worldly existence .”
Vidura continues “ Oh! Rajan, the person
who has great endurance may be considered as powerless, although its false
perception. In fact, endurance is the greatest prowess of a Jeeva, it works
as an ornament to a brave person. There is nothing impossible in the Universe
to achieve with the endurance; people who have great endurance cannot be
defeated at any circumstances, they remain unconquerable always like the flame
on the grassless land. It is needless to say that the person who is impatient
brings a lot of troubles in his life. Oh!
Rajan, Dharma only could bring Shreyas in the life of a Jeeva, Kshama is the
great prowess and serenity, knowledge is the superior ornament, and non-violence
brings welfare to the Jeeva. Oh! Rajan, a powerless King cannot win over enemies and the Bhramin who
have not conducted visits to sacred Theerthas are like the creatures living in
the mud hole, who are under constant threat of enemies like snakes. The snake
consumes the creatures living in the holes made on the Earth. Oh! Rajan, the
righteous deeds would bring respect to a Jeeva, do not talk harshly to others, and do not ask favor from the wicked people. Oh! Purushashreshta, there are two
kinds of people are considered as weak, the person has no view of their own,
and admire others without real knowledge. Oh! Rajan, greed, and anger in a weak person are toxic that destroys health. Oh! Rajan, there are
two categories of people who will not shine, a Grihastha who is lethargic, and a
hard-working Sanyasin. Oh! Rajan, there are two people shines above the
heavenly abode are powerful with endurance, and penniless who performs charities.
Oh! Rajan, the wealth is considered as poison, when it was utilized for
offering charity to an undeserved person, and discards the person who deserves
the charity. Oh! Rajan, these two kinds of people are deserved to kill by
hanging rock on their neck and pushes underwater, are the wealthiest person who
does not perform charities and the penniless who does not perform austerities
and vow. Oh! Rajan, there are two kinds of powerful persons who are capable to
break the solar system is the illustrious Yogi/Parivrajaka/Bhikshu/Sanyasin
and the warrior who got killed on the battlefield. Oh! Bharatharshabha, there
are three categories of people Uththama, Madhyama, and Adhama, in the same
manner, there are three kinds of men as well, these three types of people
engage Karma according to their nature. Oh! Rajan, there are three types of
people who have no wealth of their own, surprisingly these three people own
the wealth of whom they belong to, and they are wife, son, and servant. Oh! Rajan, there
are three sins that bring evil consequences are stealing the wealth of others, an illicit relationship with the woman, and abandoning a closest companion/associate
who knows all your secrets. Oh! Rajan, there are three doors to hell, which
causes the destruction of Athman/Bhramam, are Kama, Krodha, and Lobha. Oh!
Bharatha, the pious deed of helping an enemy while in the trouble is equivalent
to achieving a boon for the pious deeds, kingdom, and offspring. Oh! Rajan,
there are three kinds of people you should not abandon at any cost, are the
persons who have taken shelter in you, the devotee who engages in the sincere
service, and the servant who sincerely taken care of you. Oh! Rajan, a wise
ruler should avoid three kinds of people such as a lazy, person who have not
enough knowledge of the subjects, a person who does not perform tasks in time, and
the person who always engages in praising. Oh! Rajan, there are three kinds of
people who can live in a home of the wealthiest person in complete harmony, they are
an elderly relative, the sister without children, poverty-stricken relative, and
friend. Oh! Rajan, there are four things which would bring immediate results,
was told to Devendhra by Sage Bhrihaspathi, are Deiva Sankalpa, the prowess of
intellectuals, the amiable nature of the intellectuals, and the destruction to the
sinners.”
