Sri Shiva Mangalashtakam – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Shiva,  Victory to Neelagreevah who has bluish throat, he  is most favourable to  worshiper, he is decked in crescent moon on matted hair locks, he is devoid of properties, and he is storehouse of virtues.  Victory to Lord Shiva who crushed the pride of Yama, he is Rudra who has bluish throat.  Victory to Lord Shiva who is  beloved of Goddess Gauri, he is Pashupathi who is the Lord of living beings, he is mounted on celestial bull, he is attired in tigers skin.   Victory to Vyomakesha whose matted hair locks represents the sky, his body is smeared in sacred ashes from the funeral pyre, he is adorned in serpent as sacred thread across the chest, and he is adorned in garlands of Rudraksha all over the body.  Victory to Pramadhesha who is the Lord of Pramathaganas, he has Soorya, Chandhra and Agni as three eyes,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who resides on the highest peak of Mount Kailash, he is eternal bliss.  Victory to Thrilokesha who is the Lord of three worlds, he has won over the Lord of  death, he represents Veda and Vedanga, he is the cause for creation, preservation and destruction of Universe and its living beings, he is Thrayambaka who has three eyes, he is serene.   Victory to Vamadeva, he is decked in sacred Ganga and crescent moon on matted hair locks, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord who represent Lord Hari and Hara as well, he is fierce, he destroyed the demons of cities of Thripura.  Victory to Panchavakthra who has five faces, he is Sadhyojatha and Sharva as well, he is the provider of supreme wisdom and knowledge to worshiper, I shall prostrate before Lord of Eshanyam.   Victory to Mahadeva who is personified as Sadhashiva,  I shall prostrate before Thathpurusha, he has most pleasing as well as dreadful form too.  The above veres of Mangalashtakam prasing the splendor of Shambho would eradicate all kinds of extreme fears and anxieties, fear of death and critical illness too.
