Oh! Pashupathe, I may have the fortune to witness your divine and lustrous feet resembles to lotus in my dream,   I have completely drenched in severe sins, will I have the fortune to witness those lotus feet which is the safest heaven and highest of the pieties to the world? Your well known compassion induces hopes in me.  Oh! Kapalin, who acts as a mendicant, dwells merrily in the funeral grounds and enthusiastically explore with the Bhoothaganas, all those myths are renowned to the world, you are the supreme Lord who is Lord of Lords and Lord of living beings as well, Oh! Natha, I will not forsake your lotus feet even in my dreams. Oh! Esha who is smeared in holy ashes all over the body, your dwelling place is funeral grounds; you are decorated in bones and skulls as garlands, Oh! Esha, your superiority eulogized by the Vedas cannot be denied even by Lord Bhrama. Oh! Jagadheesha, Veda eulogizes the various attributes of deities and demigods, Oh! Jagadheesha who is decked in crescent moon on matted hair locks, some of the demigods might have wrongly assumed themselves as superior to you.  Oh! Paramashiva, who merrily explore on the creation grounds, he has the whole Universe as his abode, he has Rajathagiri/silver Mountain/ Mount Kailash as his superior abode, or the highest peaks with the deposit of rich minerals and gems, Oh! Esha, kindly induce servitude in me, and let me remain one of your sincere servants who carry your Sripadhuka.  Oh!  Shiva, discussion about the strength and weakness of deities are merely means of wasting time, Oh! Natha, it is the absolute truth established by Lord Bhrama and deities after reviewing the sacred scriptures which are credible.  Oh! Bhagavan, I do not consider anything desirable in the three worlds, let me have that happiness and sorrows as predestined, let my intellect always ponder on those two lotus feet which surpasses the beauty of fully blossomed lotus flower.  Oh! Lord, I have been into various tasks of low standards with an object to earn livelihood, I am offering a smallest portion at your lotus feet; therefore I am a greatest sinner to you.  Oh! Sadhashiva, you are omnipresent, kindly pardon me for all my mistakes, kindly alleviate my sorrows and grief and I am completely worn out and helpless in the unfathomable ocean of Samsara,  Oh! Lord , I shall sincerely surrender to your lotus feet I have no shelter other than you.  Sri Athmarpana Sthuthi was composed by Sri Appayya Dheekshithar completely absorbed in the lotus feet of Lord Shiva in a state of unconsciousness, Oh! Kripanidhe, kindly protects us I am helpless and I shall sincerely surrender to your lotus feet and offer the above verses in praise you.

Oh! Kripasagara/ocean of mercy, you are all pervading, you are flawless and powerful, and why don’t you have any sympathy towards me, when I am completely plunged into the ocean of miseries and sorrows? If you elevate a soul which is totally drenched in sins and in a miserable state, Oh! Shiva, how it would be high-priced for you? Oh! Deva, kindly protect me from the sufferings and miseries, I have already surrendered to your lotus feet, Oh! Kamalabdhe/available to the passionate devotees, which is the superior prayer I can depend on other than the complete surrender to your lotus feet? Therefore kindly protect us with your compassionate grace. Oh! Svamin, this poor thing has been wandering so long and have undergone innumerable births, I am completely exhausted and powerless, and hence you should liberate me instantly, what is the gain of harassing an animal which does not know to branch out good and evil, Oh! Esha, you have tied me with the rope of worldly bondage very well and heaved into the bondage of mother, father, son and into various relations in the unfathomable ocean of Samsara, why I have not obtained your compassionate grace so long although I am worn out of miseries, I suppose I am not fortunate enough to obtain your compassion. Oh! Sakalajagathnayaka, you are highly confidential, symbolizes supreme bliss and a pure mendicant, I am an ordinary person  troubled with  illusion, you are the leader of the Universe who establishes the mode of  right conduct, is that appropriate to separate me from you? Therefore kindly unite me with you.  Oh! Bhagavan, If you have decided not to elevate this soul from the ocean of repeated births and intense miseries and sorrows, in that means let me take birth again and again as any creature, but let me remain blessed to recite your endless glories and soaked in the dust from the feet of your passionate devotees. Oh! Natha, I am already besieged with intense grief and pain from the world of Samsara, Oh! Mrida, Gentle breeze will spread the fragrances of your lotus feet all over the places where worms, mountains and trees resides, therefore you can forsake me to take birth on this Samsara again and again as you wish,   Oh! Kapardhin, at the deathbed, I will be struggling to breathe, all my internal organs would be undergoing intense pain, I will be choked with extreme grief, and gradually lose my consciousness, at that moment, kindly unite my soul at your two lotus feet.  Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, I shall envision your highly auspicious form which is beyond description of senses or words, attractive smile on your lotus like face, crescent moon on the matted hair locks, decked in garlands of jasmine, seated along with the daughter of Mount Himavan on the gem studded throne.

Oh! Lord, Even Bhrama, Upendhra and deities have to wait for long for their turn to venerate you and fulfil their desires; Oh! Vishvadheeshvara, I am completely miserable, and equivalent to worm like young insect, surrendering to your lotus feet and earnestly pray to you who is the ocean of mercy to the distressed people, Oh! Natha, it is very difficult to attain the knowledge of Karma/Karmajjyanam, I am completely drenched in sins due to lack of control over senses, Oh! Purahara, I am besieged by the unfathomable well of Samsara, after surrendering to your lotus feet, and attaining your protective hands I am feeling fearless.  Oh! Lord, I am completely besieged by the fear of endless repeated births, Oh! Suravara, I shall earnestly pray to that pleasing face facing to south direction which is the safest haven to the Yogis and virtuous, kindly protect us.  Oh! Shiva, you are the provider of liberation from repeated births and worldly bondage, you are the only source of protection to a person like me who is undergoing intense sufferings and miseries, Oh! Pashupathe, kindly protect us from the powerful torrential force of repeated births which is pathetic and full of fears. Oh! Supreme Lord who eradicates all kinds of ill fortunes of the devotees, Maharshis who have obtained your auspicious glances are highly capable as Lord Bhrama who is the creator of Universe,  therefore kindly enlighten me with the supreme knowledge which is capable to untie the knots of worldly bondage and repeated births, Oh! Shubhadha who is the provider of auspiciousness, it may be possible for the human to claim superiority in the sky, but it is impossible to put an end to the miseries without the knowledge of you, Oh! Shiva, it is impractical to attain supreme knowledge about you without your auspicious grace, I am completely worn out of miseries and sorrows, which deity shall I approach for shelter other than you? Oh! Vidhyeshvara, you are the essence of sacred texts, Thanthra, Veda and scriptures which are difficult to understand for human intellect, therefore it is meaningless to engage in futile dispute over the subjects beyond human intellect, Oh! Vidhyeshvara, refined knowledge can be obtainable with your grace through intense devotion to you, Oh! Natha, I am a greatest sinner who has no control over senses, and remained greatest sinner immersed on the worldly matters without the knowledge of self, and I have been ignorant of superior scent of meritorious deeds, Oh! Natha, I have sincerely surrendered to your lotus feet, therefore it is unfair to abandon this miserable one, Oh! Bhavannatha/Oh, My Lord ! you may find various reasons to abandon me, because I have committed various sins, you may consider that I don’t deserve to take refuge at your lotus feet because of unpardonable mistakes, then it will multiply my fears in manifolds with the state of being lack of protection from you, will anyone accept a child who is refused by his mother? Oh! Esha, therefore either you should pardon all the sins which are committed in the past and the sins in the future, or you should instruct and protect me to keep away from all those wicked actions,  Oh! Esha, it is unfair to dishearten a person, who is afflicted with the miseries and sorrows of Samsara and surrendered at your lotus feet.

I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is decked in crescent moon/Udupathi, he is Vishvavandhya who is worshiped by the whole Universe, Oh! Lord, I have been abandoning moral conduct and recklessly wandering like a shameless animal, and I have committed various sins and sunken into the ocean of sorrow, how can I cross over this unfathomable ocean without your grace? Oh! Karunasagara/ocean of mercy, Oh! Girisha/who is wielded on Mountain as bow, kindly forgive for all those sins committed in the Samsara; I am in a miserable state I shall earnestly pray for forgiveness, even though continues to commit thousands of mistakes in every seconds like a dumb person, and go on with prayers shamelessly, Oh! Natha, you are bountiful, you will forgive all kinds of sins of the worshiper who are surrenderd to your lotus feet at the moment of death, Oh! Purahara who is the destroyer of city of Thripura, if I have committed those Dhoshathrya/three kinds of severe sins at the deathbed due to lack of consciousness, how shall I remember your lotus feet?  Oh! Shiva, Prana while leaving the body, all the limbs and joints becomes fragile, I will be surrounded by relatives who weep bitterly in great affection, at the moment of loss of consciousness and all these distractions around how can I concentrate and fix my intellect on your lotus feet? Oh! Adhrikanyadhinatha/who is the consort of Adhrikanya/daughter of Mount Himavan, therefore I shall surrender to your lotus feet right now, with all my descendents, Oh! Shiva, I am not an intellectual so I am not aware of performance of any religious rites or Yoga practices,  I have no other means other than surrender to your lotus feet.  Oh! Parvatheesha/Lord of Goddess Sri Parvathi, I am completely afflicted with extreme grief and agony in the world of Samsara, Oh! Parvatheesha, who is eulogized by Veda and sacred scriptures and essence of sacred Veda and scriptures; you are the supreme preceptor who imparts the knowledge of self/Athman, Oh! Parvatheesha, I have no means other than surrender to your lotus feet, Oh! Paramdhama, you are absolute Bhramam, you are great illusionist who tied the living beings with worldly bondage, you are the cause for all actions, you are eternal bliss who imparts the knowledge of supreme Bhramam and liberates the souls from worldly bondage and provider supreme bliss to people who are surrendered to your lotus feet, therefore I shall surrender to your lotus feet, Oh! Sarvadheeshvara, you are the greatest cure for the distressed people and devotees who are afflicted with intense grief and miseries of Samsara, you are the great relief for the pain afflicted by the Samsara by imparting the knowledge of Athman, Oh! Varadha, kindly eradicate our intense pain and sorrows afflicted by the Samsara, you are Samsaravaidhyam /greatest cure of Samsara, and therefore we shall surrender to your lotus feet. Oh! Girisha, I shall meditate upon you, Oh! Bhramavidhyaguru/ imparts the knowledge of absolute Bhramam, who is meditated by Yogis followed with supreme austerities, they attain nearness to you at the time of departing the world and also obtain Tharakamanthra which removes all kinds of fears. Oh!  Shiva, I shall remain your sincere servant,  I shall surrender to your lotus feet,  I have no other means to escape, Oh! Natha, I have nothing to offer to you, Oh! Natha, we are completely besieged with sorrows and grief, Oh! Compassionate Lord, kindly accept our act of surrender.

Oh! Devadeva/Lord of Lords,  Who could describe your endless splendor?  You are the cause for the numerous creations and you are attainable with intense devotion, therefore I have taken immense attempt and courage to praise your glories with sincere devotion, kindly pardon me for the inconsiderate act, Oh! Vidhatha, The Earth and all those essential elements and none of the motionless things will take place without any source, or a non- expertise could not perform the function of creation, you are primeval deity therefore you are responsible for the function of creation too.  Oh! Paramashiva, Indhra, Mithra, Varuna, Anila, Bhrama, Vishnu all are enticed by you, all the living things will get submerged at the end, Oh! Deva, Shruthi eulogizes the glories of Shambu and various deities, Oh! Kapardhin who have attractive matted hair locks, you are the ocean of bliss, and your mesmerizing form is beyond description or perception of human intellect, you are inseparable from the union of Goddess Uma and takes immense pleasure in the association of each others, you are pure and have the effulgence of thousands and millions of sun, you are most celebrated deity worshiped by Ganas, Oh! Vishvanetha/commander of the Universe, you are worshiped by the liberated souls/renounced souls who are freed from worldly matters and immersed in the meditation of supreme Lord who is eternal bliss,  Upanishadhs and Vedantha eulogizes your splendor, you are promising to Vipras who are engaged in Bhraminic rites, you are the provider of abundance of boons to them, Oh! Ghora, some people undertakes intense practices of meditation to  cross the unfathomable ocean of Samsara, some engages in worship of your lotus feet  on regular basis according to the prescribed rules in the scriptures, some people may strictly follow Varnnashrama Dharma, unfortunately I have not followed any of these, therefore sinking in the bottomless ocean of Samsara.  Oh! Lord, As I have born in the illustrious clan,  I had the fortune to  listen  few drops of ocean like  your  endless glories, I have been inopportune to worship your lotus feet, due to  uncertainty of mind and lack of control over the senses, therefore my birth has become futile and sinful, Oh! Shiva, you get pleased with the veneration of simplest flowers of Arka and Drona available in the woods, with that I could have attained the Mokshasamrajyalakshmi/highest of the opulence known as liberation from repeated births, Oh! Shiva, although aware of all those I have been wasted all my life; hence I am an Athmadhrohi/sinner to the supreme soul, eventually that resulted in my plummet, Oh! Swamin, what shall I do? I have completely drawn to the worldly desires and bondage which are biggest enemies, due to lack of control over senses and extreme haughtiness, Oh! Natha, I am helpless to control from imprudent conduct and worldly matters, whenever I think of rebirth I am getting terrified, what shall I do? Where will I go? I have not found any means other than surrender to nectar like your lotus feet.
