Sri Shiva Mangalashtakam – Lyrics and meanings

All the auspiciousness to supreme Lord Shiva who has bluish throat, he is controller of the Universe, he is decked in crescent moon on his matted hair locks, he has possessed Thriguna, he is the storehouse of virtues and remains Nirguna as well, he is death to Lord Yama, he has dreadful form as Rudra.  All the auspiciousness to supreme Lord Shiva who lures the heart of Goddess Gauri, he is mounted on celestial vehicle divine bull, he has colossal form, he is attired in the skin of tiger, he is the Lord of all the living beings.  All the auspiciousness to supreme Lord Shiva who worn sky as his matted hair locks, he is smeared in sacred ashes all over his body, he is decked in venomous serpent as sacred thread across his chest, he is decked in Rudraksha as ornaments.  All the auspiciousness to supreme Lord Shiva who is worshiped by supreme ascetic, he has Lord Surya, Lord Chandra and Lord Agni as his three eyes, I shall prostrate before Lord Shiva who dwells in the highest peak of Mount Kailash, he is eternal bliss.  All the auspiciousness to supreme  Lord Shiva who is the Lord of  three worlds, he has won over Lord Yama, he is the cause for creation, preservation and destruction of Universe and its living beings, he has three eyes and he is serene.    All the auspiciousness to supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Lord Vamadeva, he carries sacred river Ganga on matted hair locks, he is decked in crescent moon on his matted hair locks, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is manifested as Lord Hari and Hara, he is fierce and destroyed the cities of Thripura.  All the auspiciousness to supreme Lord Shiva who is personified as Sandhyojatha, he is the provider of auspiciousness to his fervent devotees, he is the provider of supreme wisdom and knowledge, I shall prostrate before Lord Shiva who is personified as Eshana.  All the auspiciousness Lord Mahadeva who is personified as Lord Sadashiva, I shall prostrate before Thathpurusha, he has the form of Aghora and Ghora as well.



The glorious verses of Mangalashtakam praising Lord Shiva is written with the grace of Goddess Chamunda, whoever reads or listens to the sacred verses of Mangalashtakam on daily basis would be relieved from the fear of death and fear from various illnesses.
