|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||
Sage
Upamanyu continued “ Yama narrated these sacred hymns to Rudras that was
received by Lord Bhrama due to his intense penance and severe austerities,
later it was passed on to Sage Dhandi,
Oh! Madhava, Sage Dhandi narrated to Shukra and it was passed on to Sage
Gauthama, Bhargava and Vaivaswatha Manu, and Sage Sathyanaraya who is highly
intellectual was immersed in meditation, ultimately it was passed on to Yama
who is the son of Vivaswan. Oh! Lord Krishna,
Yama narrated these sacred hymns to
Nachiketha and it was passed on to Sage Markandeya. Oh! Lord Janardhana, destroyer of enemies, I
have received these highly confidential hymns from Sage Markandeya and I am
offering to you. These sacred verses are
equivalent to Veda, it is a gateway to
heaven, it removes all the obstacles
from the life of the worshipper, it provides abundance of affluence, it removes
all the perils by Dhanavas/demons, Yaksha, Rakshasa, evil spirits, Yathudhanas,
Guhyaka and Uraga. ” Sage Upamanyu concluded his speech to Lord Krishna.
Lord
Krishna spoke “Oh! Yudhistira, whoever recites these sacred verses continuously
for a year with utmost faith and strict austerities, would receive the pieties
of Ashwamedha Yaga/horse sacrifice.”
Sage Jaigeeshavya
spoke “ Oh! Yudhishtira, I have attained all the auspiciousness,
virtues/kindness, patience, serenity of mind, and wealth from supreme Lord
Shiva due to continuous austerities and intense faith in him.”
Sage
Garga spoke “ Oh! Yudhishtira/ son of Pandu, I have attained knowledge in sixty
four art forms due to my intense faith and performance of austerities towards
supreme Lord Shiva.”
Sage
Vaishampayana said “ The most intelligent Lord Krishna, ruler of the Universe
narrated to Yudhishtira who is the personification of righteousness and has the
effulgence of Lord Indra, that all these thousands of sacred hymns praising the
glories of supreme Lord Shiva was taught by Sage Upamanyu who has the radiance
of Lord Surya.”
Those
who follow wicked acts and exasperate sinful acts and those who have more
Thamasic and Rajjasic qualities will not engage themselves in the worship of
Supreme Lord Shiva. Those who have born
with virtues would immerse in the worship of Lord. I shall firmly believe that whoever worships
the Supreme Lord Shiva will liberate from the unfathomable ocean of Samsara and
liberate from the cycles of birth and death.
Thus ends the eighteenth chapther of Anushasanika Parva of the great
epic Mahabharatha which has ten million verses.
Oh!
Supreme Lord Shiva, Oh! Jagadheesha, I shall earnestly pray to protect us from
nightmares/Dhuswapna, bad
omen/Dhushakuna, accidents/ Dhurgathi,
depression/Dhurmanasya,
poverty/Dhurbhiksha, miseries/Dhurvyasana, grief and sorrows, ill fame,
perils, fear, evil effects from the changes of planetary position and
illnesses. Thus end the thousands of
sacred names of Lord Shiva.
