Dwadasha Jyothirlinga Sthothram by Sri Adishankaracharya – Lyrics and meanings

I shall surrender to Lord Somanatha who dwells in the sacred city of Sourashtra, he has supreme radiance and he is decked in crescent moon on his matted hairlocks, he is the ocean of mercy and provider of sincere devotion to the worshipper.



I shall prostrate before Lord Mallikarjuna who dwells in the sacred city of Srishailam, he guides his worshipper to cross the ocean of Samsara, and he resides on the highest peaks of Thuladhrithunga and reveals his eternal presence.



I shall venerate Lord Mahakala who dwells in the city of Avanthika, he has various incarnations and he is the Lord of Lords, he is the provider of liberation from the cycles of birth and death to his passionate devotees and the virtuous people, and he protects his devotees from untimely death.



I shall venerate Lord Omkareshwara who dwells in city of Mandhathripura and revelas his eternal presence; it is located at the confluence of river Kaveri and Narmadha which is originated for the liberation of virtuous people.



I shall prostrate before Lord Vaidhyanatha, who dwells on the north east of Prajjvalika, he reveals his eternal presence with his consort Goddess Girija, his lotus feet is venerated by deities and demons as well.



I shall surrender to Lord Naganatha, who dwells in the city of Sadhanga and reveals his eternal presence, he is well decorated, and he provides worldly pleasures, sincere devotion and liberation from the cycles of birth and death to his passionate devotees.



I shall venerate the supreme Lord Shiva who dwells in the city of Kedarnath and take immense pleasure in the serenity of highest peaks; he is venerated by Sages and Rishis, Lord Indra and deities, demons, Yakshas, and Mahauragas.



I shall mediatate upon the supreme Lord Thrayambakeshwara who dwells in the serenity of Sahyadhri hills, which is located on the sacred river banks of Godavari, he is capable to remove all the perils of his ardent devotees who witness him.  



I shall meditate upon Lord Ramanatha who dwells in the city of Rameshwaram, located at the confluence of river Thamraparni in the ocean where a majestic bridge Sethu was built by Lord Sri Ramachandra.



I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Bheemshankar who is most desirable to his devotees, he is in the closest association of Bhoothaganas and worshipped by Dakini and Sakini,  he is prominently known as ‘Bheema’.



I shall surrender to supreme Lord Vishwanatha, who dwells in the serene woods, he is the personification of eternal bliss, he destroys the sins of his devotees, and he is the Lord of city of Varanasi and reveals his eternal presence.



I shall surrender to supreme Lord Grushneshwar, who dwells in the serene city of Ilapuri, he is the Lord of the Universe, and he is the personification of compassion.  Whoever recites the above verses praising the splendor of Dwadhasha Jyothir Lingas with sincere faith and devotion would attain everlasting glories.
