Shiva
Gitimala was composed by Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi ( 62nd Seer of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peedam),
it consists of 20 enthralling verses known as Ashtapadi praising the
pleasurable moments of Lord Ekamreshwarar and Goddess Sri Kamakshi. This beautiful composition portraits
the desperation, devotion and dedication, of individual soul/Jeevathma, attain
union with the Supreme soul/Paramathma in order to achieve eternal bliss. Shiva Ashtapadi/Shiva Gitimala begins
with the veneration of Lord Ganesha. The
entire verses illustrate the miserable state of separation of Goddess Parvathi
from Lord Shiva. Goddess
Sri Parvati underwent severe penance on the river banks of Kampa in order to
unite with the Lord Shiva. The
divine couple undergoes unbearable pain of separation; Lord Shiva came down to
Earth and resides under a mango tree where Goddess Sri Parvati undertakes
penance was observed by faithful companion of Goddess and was duly
informed. The state of remorsefulness,
desertion, guilt and the messages exchanged through the companion of Godess Sri
Parvati etc.. are beautifully depicted in the Ashtapadi. Ultimately Lord Shiva appears before
Goddess Sri Parvati and apologizes profusely, after an initial harshness
between the couple and blissfully unites.
Oh ! Lord, Beloved son of Shankara, Remover of all obstacles and remover of sufferings of the worshippers, reside in my heart which has the resemblances of Lotus and preside in the middle of my heart where the majestic seat embedded with various gems.
Oh! Goddess Sri Sarada, the stream of honey in the lotus mouth of Lord Brahma, your feet are expansively worshipped by the scriptures, and your presence has the close resemblances to the shining of crores of moon. I earnestly prays for your presence like lotus in my mouth.
Oh ! Lord Shiva whose hair lock is adorned by the crescent moon, while performing cosmic dance in the famous hall before the sages who were witnessing the same reaches in a state of bliss, eventually purifies them. I earnestly pray to bless me with the same state of ecstasy throughout my life.
Oh ! Goddess Sri Parvati, consort of Lord Shiva, I surrender at your feet. Wishing to have holy dip in the sacred river Ganga, remove all obstacles and sins I have committed, fulfill my deepest desires to compose the sacred verses of Shivagiti Mala.
Whoever immersed in the meditation at the lotus feet of Lord Shiva through the power of Yoga should listen to the nectar like verses of Shiva Giti Mala, the enthralling myth of Lord Shiva and Goddess Sri Parvati that would eradicate all the sins committed.
