Sri Lingodhbhava Sthothram by Sage Vashishta – Lyrics and meanings

Sri Lingodhbhava Sthothram was composed by Sage Vashishta, praising the splendor of Lord Shiva embodied as Lingamoorthi would bring union with the supreme Lord Shankara who is the source of liberation from repeated births, he is  unblemished and not perceivable through senses, and he is absolute Bhramam.


Vashishta speaks “  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as Kanakalinga and Vedalinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord  Shiva who is embodied as  Paramalinga and Vyomalinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as  Sahasralinga and Vahnilinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as  Puranalinga and Shruthilinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who embodied as Pathalalinga, and Bhramalinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who  is embodied as  Rahasyalinga and Sapthadhvipa Oordhalinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as  Vyakthalinga and  Buddhilinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as Ahangaralinga and Bhoothalinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as Indhriyalinga and Thanmathralinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as Purushalinga and  Bhavalinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as Rajo Oordhvalinga and Sathvalinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as  Bhavalinga and Thraigunyalinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord  Shiva who is embodied as  Nagathalinga and Thejolinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as Vayo Oordhvalinga and  Mayalinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as  Dharmalinga and  Samalinga,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as Yajja Angalinga and Yajjalinga, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva who is embodied as  Thathvalinga and  Devanugathalinga, he symbolizes supreme knowledge and Yoga, he is Bhramam and eternal, he is Shambam who is all pervading, he is the provider of imperishable quality of  the clan, intelligence and righteousness.”


Lord Agni speaks “ Sage Vashishta eulogized the matchless glories of Lord Shambhu who is the consort of Goddess Sri Parvathi, he immensely  pleased the Lord, eventually attained various boons.”
