Sri Shaligrama Sthothram – Sri Bhavishyoththara Puranam – Lyrics and meanings

Sri Shaligrama Sthothram is highly propitious hymn was composed by supreme Lord Krishna, hence it has Sri Bhavan as Rishi, presiding deity is Lord Sriman Narayana, it has Anushtup as Chandhass and these sacred hymns are   recited to venerate Shaligramashila.

Yudhishtira speaks “ Oh! Deva, Oh! Devadevesha/Lord of Lords,  Oh! Purushoththama, I would like to hear the most propitious and supreme method of worship, kindly narrates to me.”

Sri Bhagavan speaks “Oh! Dhvijoththama/illustrious among twice born, there is a greatest shrine on Vasundhara/Goddess Earth extended up to  Dhashayojana, on the banks of sacred river Gandaki and on the right situated Giriraja/king of mountain/Mount Kailash, Shaligramashila originates from Devi Dhvaravathi which is known as Mukthikshethram, Shaligramashilas  are found in this sacred river are highly auspicious which would provide highest of the pieties known as liberation from repeated births, it eradicates accumulated sins of the worshiper, I shall prostrate before Shalagramashilavari  which eradicates all the sins of the worshiper, it eradicates accidental as well as untimely deaths, it eradicates all kinds of illnesses, these Shaligramashilas represents Lord Vishnu, whoever consume the water after performing sacred bath to the shaligramashila or sprinkle the water on their head would get relieved from untimely death and illnesses, Shaligramashila with the symbol of conch on the middle is equivalent to supreme Lord Keshava, veneration of the same would eradicate severe sins like Bhramahathya/killing of Bhramin, whoever consumer the water after veneration of this Shaligrama with the symbol of conch would get purified and get freed from Bhramahathya sin, it provides the devout act of performance of thousands of Agnishtoma and  hundreds of Vajapeya Yagna to the worshiper who consume the Naivedhyam of Lord Vishnu, it is highly propitious to add leaves of Thulsi on the Naivedhyam as well as the water offered to the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu, whoever worships Lord Vishnu on regular basis would attain the meritorious reward of performance of millions of Yajja, worship of broken or burst opened or smoky colored  Shaligramashila are treated as impure, veneration of shaligrama bring abundance of devout act, though worshiper is not skilled in recitation of hymns or veneration or not skilled in Upacharas or recitation of sacred hymns or holy dip in sacred ponds, it removes severe sins of Bhramahathya, sins committed by words and mind instantly, Lakshmikantha narrates that Shaligramashilas are in different colors and shapes, it represents Lord Narayana, worship of  Shaligramashila with the symbol of Chakra/discus on its middle would provide all the happiness, fortune, virtuous offspring and wealth to the worshiper, shaligramashila with the symbol of Vasudeva would eradicates all the sins of the worshiper, there are shaligramashilas with the symbol of Sreedhara, Sookara, Vamana,  Varaha, Koorma, Gopadham, Varaham, Vamanam, etc.. yellow colored Shaligramashila represents deities and crimson colored are dreadful, worship of Narasimha Shaligramashila would bring liberation from repeated births, Shaligramashilas with the symbol of Shakha, Chakra, Gadha, Koorma, Dhamodhara, Chakra with the white lines, shape of an umbrella, shape of ball, are highly auspicious etc..  worship of flattend Shaligrama would bring grief and miseries, Shaligrama with sharpend edges would bring conflicts in the family, worship of beautiful Vamadeva Shaligramashila with the symbol of Chakra, shaligramashila with the chakra and yellow/tawny or reddish brown or dark in color is considered as Lakshminrisimha, worship of shaligramashila resembles to long tongue or reddish colored would bring sufferings of poverty as well as perils to the worshiper, Shaligramashila with the symbol of Lagnachakra would bring incurable illnesses and ultimately death to worshiper, whoever consume the water after ablation of Shaligramashila or adorn the Nirmalyam of Shalagrama on head , or consume the Naivedhyam with the leaves of Thulsi after veneration would reside in the abode of Lord Vishnu for Kalpakodisahasram/thousands and crores of Kalpa, veneration of Shalagramashila would eradicate sins of  crores of Hathya/killing,  Oh! Dhvijoththama, hence veneration of Shaligramashila and recitation of the sacred hymns praising the splendor of Shaligramashila is highly propitious, it would bring highest of the pities known as liberation from repeated births, it eradicates all the accumulated sins of the worshiper, ultimately worshiper would reside in the supreme abode of Sri Vaikundham, worship of Shaligramashila would provide the fortune of witnessing ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, and it would bring kingdom and glories to the worshiper, consumption of water after ablation and Naivedhyam after veneration of Shaligramashila would eradicates severe sins of Bhramahathya and it would provide liberation from repeated births to the worshiper.
