Ashtavakra Gita/Ashtavakreeyam – Chapter - 2

Ashtavakra Gita/Ashtavakreeyam – Chapter -  2

Chapter -2 – Shishya Swanubhava Kathanam - 1 - 25

King Janaka speaks “Oh! Maharishi, I was drenched in worldly matters and bondage and did not realize the nature of the supreme soul, which is pure, unblemished, free from impurities like ego, jealous, pride, lust, and desire, it is absolute bliss and wisdom, I am the part of that supreme Bhramam, which illuminates the whole Universe, same as the supreme soul that causes the functions of Panchendhriyas, Karmendhriyas, mind, intellect, and Ahamkara. Therefore, the whole Universe is nothing but the all-pervasive supreme Bhramam. Dheha/body is Jadavasthu, the Athman is the essence of that supreme Bramham which is all-pervasive resides as a soul in living beings. There is nothing other than Bhramam in the Universe, it is the Mithya/illusion, causes misconception and ‘I’ and body consciousness. Aho! I could feel that all-pervasive supreme Bhramam/Paramathma within me as Prana, with the knowledge that I have achieved from the preceptor. The water current, foam, and water bubbles are part of the water, it is not different from water and it has no separate existence like the Jeeva is not different from that supreme Bhramam. The clothe woven from the thread is not different from each other, there is no existence of clothing in the absence of thread like the Universe which is inseparable, initiated from that supreme Bhramam.  The sugar produced from the juices of sugarcane, Sugar has no existence without sugarcane, and in the same manner, the Universe and its living beings have no existence without the all-pervasive Bhramam. The fallacy about the rope as a snake creates trepidation and anxieties, once the misconception is removed the fear goes away like the soul/Prana is supreme Bramham, the illusion and ignorance cause interest in worldly matters and bondage. The Prana/soul is indestructible and the Prakrithi is destructible.  I have understood my real form as the part of the supreme Bhramam resides as Prana, which is self-illuminating; it causes the functioning of Karma and Gnanaindhriyas, mind, intellect,  and Ahamkara. Once, the Prana leaves the body, the functioning of those Indiriyas, mind, intellect, and Ahamkara stops and the body is declared as lifeless. The ignorance causes to vision the silver in the shell, snake in the rope, the reflection of sun rays causes the presence of water in the desert, in the same manner, the ignorance causes attachments to worldly matters and people. The mud pot made out of mud, water currents on the water, gold in the ornaments, and are interconnected otherwise it would have zero existence,  in the same manner, the supreme Bhramam is the essence of the Universe and its living beings, and it merges in it at the end of Pralaya. I shall prostrate before that supreme soul/Paramathma which is all-pervasive, resides as a soul in living beings, represents living and non-living things, and eternal, when the entire Universe undergoes delusion, the supreme Bhramam remains undisturbed, I shall repeatedly prostrate before that supreme Bhramam. I shall prostrate before that indestructible supreme soul/Paramathma, which has no dual forms, all-pervasive, it has neither beginning nor end and eternal. Aho! It is surprising, to note that the supreme Bhramam which is the base of the universe and its living beings, I shall prostrate before that Bhramam. Aho! I shall sincerely prostrate before that supreme Bhramam which is beyond words, mind, and intellect. The Gnanam/wisdom, Jjyeyam/knowledge, and Jyatha/knower are one and only Bhramam, the sense of duality/ Dhvaitha creates grief, the whole the universe is nothing but Mithya, the supreme soul/Paramathma is absolute truth, it has no dual form, it is pure,  and it represents supreme wisdom and bliss as well. This knowledge would remove all the grief and miseries of the worldly existence, and repeated birth as well. I am not the body, I am that supreme consciousness, it has no limitations, it has no boundaries, it is all-pervasive, and it is the eternal truth as well. I have neither Bandham/shackle nor Moksham, this knowledge would remove all the fears and anxieties of the Jeeva. The whole Universe is Maya, the supreme soul/Paramathma is the eternal truth. The ignorance causes grief, and once it’s destroyed with the knowledge of supreme all-pervasive Bhramam, all the miseries and grief come to an end. The existence of the Universe only for Vyavahara purposes, it has no existence in Paramarththa Thaththva. The body and Universe both are Mithya/illusion; the supreme soul/Paramathma is the eternal truth, causes to function the body. The Athman is supreme consciousness. The supreme consciousness has no attachment to the body other than it causes the functions of Karma and Gnana Indhriyas, mind, intellect, and Ahamkara, and the concept of  Swarga or Naraka, Bandha or Moksha, Bhayam, are mere imaginations of the Jeeva.Aho! I am not seeing Dhvaitham/duality in Jeeva, I am seeing the ‘Oneness-in-all, therefore I feel no difference in woods or Kingdom, where should I live? I am not the body, I have no specific body, and I am that supreme consciousness. All that interest in worldly matters and bondage, desire to live chained up me, and put me in extreme agony. Aho! My mind is like a vast ocean of supreme consciousness, the wind causes to create waves in the ocean like different worlds emerges from it. The moment the wind stops in the vast ocean of supreme consciousness, the unfortunate Jeeva’s ferry like Universe destroys. The Supreme consciousness is compared with the vast ocean, mind and intellect/thoughts as the waves, and the universe as the ferry, Jeeva as a businessman who travels in the ferry. Aho! In the vast ocean of supreme consciousness, the Jeevas are mere waves in it, they rise on the surface of the water, fight with each other, engages in pleasurable sports, finally merges in the water."
