Chapter 20 - Bhashyam – 33 - 34 Amarga/evil path should be destroyed with the Marga/righteous
path
Bhagavan Sanathkumara speaks “ Oh! Rajan,
Veda says, the Avidhvan/ignorant, get attached to the Karma easily to achieve
fruitful results, and perform various spiritual and religious rites; the
learned one performs the deeds for the welfare of the Universe and its living
beings and remains unattached to the Karma. Hence, the intelligent/learned one
does not get attached to the Karma, he envisions the Paramthma Parambhramam in
him and attains union with that Parambhramam/immerses in Athmarathi, and he
destroys the evilness with goodness.”
Sage Sanathkumara continues “ Oh! Rajan,
I shall describe the eternal truth, the Vishayavishandha who is completely
drenched in worldly matters, blindly chases for the sensual pleasures, people,
money, fame, richness, wealth, etc. is ignorant/Pramadha, they perform the various
spiritual and religious rites yearning for the Bhramalokadhi Sukha, a learned the person will not do that. The reasons for the performance of Karma yearning for fruitful results are Avidhyadhi Dhoshadharshanam/ignorance with false
conception. The Bhrihadharanyaka Upanishads says “The Abudha/Ajjani/ignorant
heaves himself to the dark worlds of ignorance and miseries afterlife on the
Earth.” Veda affirms that the ignorant perform all the Arththajatha Karma,
they perform Karma with a selfish motive and personal gain, a Vidhwan does not
perform rites for personal motive, they constantly perform all those spiritual
and religious rites for the welfare of the universe and its people. The learned
people do not engage themselves in the Karma which could provide any material
welfare which has short-living nature, instead they yearn to achieve that
supreme Bhramam and immerses in the ‘Athmarathi’, eventually they become that
all-pervasive Bhramam and attains union with it.”
The learned person destroys the Karma
which causes Samsarahethu/deeds that cause rebirths, such as interest in
worldly matters and attachments, and all those Dharmadharmopasana of
Amarga/evil methods of worship, any rites which oppose the all-pervasive
Bramham. “Yevam Hi Vidhvan Pariyathi Thathra” the Vidhwan who has the knowledge
of Saguna Bhramam achieves the fruitfulness of Upasana in the Bhramaloka/abode
of all the deities. Veda says the Jjani creates Arththajatha/ultimate asylum/Paramapadham
as the fruitful results, does not hurl into the vicious cycles of rebirths or
do not take birth as Karmi. The learned person with the constant contemplation
and meditation upon the Bhramam destroys the Amarga/evil path, and
Athmavirudhdhamarga/any deeds which are unpleasant to ‘Athman’, remains ‘Paramathma’
and ultimately achieves union with that Paramabhramam.
The previous verses describe the
Pramadha/ignorance, which is the cause for ‘Mrithyu’, as ‘Pramadham Vai
Mrithyumaham Bhraveemi” and the Immortality/Apramadha, is the knowledge of
indestructible Bhramam/Purusha reside as a soul in the Jeeva. It was already discussed about the ignorance
which is the cause for the Sarvanarththa Hethu, and how to destroy the ‘Mrithyu’/ignorance
with the Athmajjana/Bhramajjana. Further, it was described how to achieve union
with that Paramathma Parambhramam and Paramapurusharththa with the performance
of righteous deeds without yearning for fruitful results or personal motive,
performing deeds for the welfare of the Universe and its living beings, and the
Paramathma is none other than Jeevathma. Dhritarashtra after listening to all those
explanations of Sage Sanathkumara becomes impatient and raises several questions.
