Chapter – 5 – Chanakya Neethi 11 – 23


Rishi Chanakya speaks “ The most common and noticeable things are 1) Dharidhryam/poverty destroys the sense of charity in a person, 2) The virtues remove ill-fortune and afflictions in the person 3) The wisdom removes ignorance, 4) The right way of thinking, perfect frame of mind removes fears and anxieties in the person. There is nothing that could win over these facts 1) excessive desires causes’ chronic ailments, the people who take immense pleasure in the luxuries and comforts undergoes various illnesses 2) Ignorance is the dangerous enemy 3) Anger is like colossal fire, extremely difficult to put off and definitely cause huge damage in the relationship 4) There is no peace or serenity other than wisdom and knowledge. The true facts are 1)Jeeva born alone have to die alone 2) consume the results of Karma/goodness and evilness all alone 3) Jeeva hurls to hell with their demonic Karma/ evil-doing, in the same manner, Jeeva achieves Paramgathi/get relieved from the vicious cycles of birth and death with their Sathkarma/good deeds.  The Bhramajjani who perceive the all-pervasive Bhramam, do not yearn for Moksha or heavenly pleasures, therefore consider it as ‘Thrina’/grass, the fearless and courageous faces life with great enthusiasm consider life as Thrina, the person who has perfect control over sense consider attractive woman equal to ‘Thrina’/grass, the person who have no desire would consider the whole world as ‘Thrina’. The inseparable companions are 1)The knowledge of a person is the sincere companion while traveling to unknown lands 2) virtuous wife is the companion of a man at home 3) medicines are the best companion for a patient 4) the Punyakarma/good deeds are the best companion of a person's life after death.  The meaningless things are 1) rain on the sea water 2) food served to a person who is not hungry 3) wealth donated to a rich person 4) lamp lit in the daylight.  The five things that provide great satisfaction in one’s life and has no comparison 1) rainwater 2) prowess and strength 4) Thejas/brilliance and 5) good quality food grains.  1) The deities yearn to achieve Mukthi, all the deities have a certain period of time to enjoy the comforts and luxuries of their respective abode/Ksheene Punye Marthyalokam Vishanthi/ once the accumulated Punya/piousness get over, they have to take birth on the Prithvi, hence they desire to achieve Mokshaprapthi 2) humans yearn to attain the heavenly pleasures and engages in the various Karma/spiritual and religious deeds, without the knowledge that the piousness earned, will not last forever. 3) Dharidhra/pauper/penniless yearns to achieve wealth without the knowledge that it is the cause for all the evils 4) Animals yearns to achieve speaking ability. The ‘truthfulness’ is the base of the Universe and its living beings, the Earth provides natural resources/food grains and minerals, the sun rise and set to protect the living beings on the Earth, Moon rays provides coolness in the night, Air blows to give comforts and adequate rain flourishes the life on the Earth. Once, the ‘Truthfulness’ vanishes from the Earth, the destruction of life on the Earth is certain, in the form of natural calamities, drought, famine, and epidemic. The material things wealth, richness, fame, possession, Prakrithi, life on the Earth undergoes constant changes and ruin, life on the Earth are impermanent. Dharma is the only truth, will not undergo any changes in all the four Yuga. The four evil-minded people are 1) Kshuraka/barber 2) crow among the birds/they consume the grain, also knock and pee on the heads of the people who offered the grains 3) Jackals in the four-legged animal’s category 4) woman who works in the garden.  The scriptures say that 1) Janitha/father who has given birth 2) a father who has performed ‘Upanayana’/sacred thread ceremony to initiate Vedadhyana 3) preceptor who imparts the knowledge on Shastra and Purana 4) Annadhatha/Employer who is the provider of meal 5) person who provided shelter are considered as ‘Pitha’/father, should be respected at all times. The scriptures affirm that 1)Rajapathni/ Queen 2) Gurupathni/wife of the preceptor 3) Mithrapathni/wife of a companion 4) Pathnimatha/mother of wife 5)Swamatha/ one’s own mother should be revered and treated as ‘own mother’.”
