|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||
This is
one of the most propitious hymns praising the five-faced Lord Shiva and each face represents a specific aspect and has sacred names, these glorious faces are known as Ishana, Tathpurusha,
Aghora, Vamadeva, and Sadhyojatha respectively, Ishana faces south-east which represents Lord Sadashiva, Tathpurusha faces
east which represents Lord Shiva, Aghora faces south which is the personification of the destructive form of Lord Rudra at the time of delusion, Vamadeva faces north which
represents the preservation aspect of Lord Maheshwara, and Sadhyojatha faces west
which represents the creative aspect of Lord Shiva. I shall prostrate before the unblemished glorious face of Lord Shiva which faces on
the west, it has the resemblance to snow, moon, and jasmine and it has
the luster of milk, his body is smeared in sacred ash, he has radiant eyes
which burnt Lord Manmatha into ashes, he is worshiped by Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and
Ganas, it flourishes Rig Veda. I shall prostrate before the glorious face of Lord Shiva which faces on the north, it relentlessly whispers the syllables of Yajur Veda, he has the complexion of precious yellow metal, he is beautifully adorned in vermilion on the forehead, he has brilliant long glances, his lips have
the resemblance to Bimba fruits, he is too compassionate, he has attractive blue matted hair locks and beautiful smile on the face. I shall prostrate before the glorious face of Lord Shiva which faces on east,
it flourishes Samaveda, he holds a powerful trident, he is worshiped by
Siddha, Suras, Asuras, and Indra, he has the radiance of precious yellow metal, he has
marvelous lips that have the appearance of copper, his splendid hair locks are decked in crescent moon and serpent. I shall prostrate before the glorious face of Lord Shiva who is Lord of Lords, which
faces on the south, it flourishes Atharva Veda, it has the resemblance to dark clouds, bee and dark ink applied on eyes, he has brown eyes which has fleeting look, he has a marvelous line of teeth, he is adorned in splendid ear stud decorated with the gem from the hood of the serpent, he has attractive matted hair locks decked in a crescent moon and
serpents. I shall prostrate before the glorious face of Lord Shiva/Ishwara which faces the sky, it is most superior and divine, it excels the marvelous thirty-six
principles which are beyond comparison, it is meditated by the illustrious Yogis, it is the origin of all sacred syllables including Pranava, and it has minuscule form. Whoever
recites the above glorious verses eulogizes the splendorous five faces of Lord Shiva
on all Pradosha would attain Shivapuri, which is known as the supreme abode of Lord Shiva in a magnificent
chariot, and will remain blissfully in the association of deities, taking immense pleasure in the various passionate sports, in the marvelous garden in the abode of Lord Shiva.
